Job 22
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,
Alors Éliphaz, le Thémanite, prit la parole,
2 May a man be profitable vnto God, as he that is wise, may be profitable to himselfe?
« Un homme peut-il être utile à Dieu? Certes, celui qui est sage est profitable à lui-même.
3 Is it any thing vnto the Almightie, that thou art righteous? or is it profitable to him, that thou makest thy wayes vpright?
Est-ce un plaisir pour le Tout-Puissant que vous soyez justes? Ou est-ce que ça lui profite que vous rendiez vos voies parfaites?
4 Is it for feare of thee that he will accuse thee? or go with thee into iudgement?
Est-ce pour votre piété qu'il vous réprimande, qu'il entre avec vous dans le jugement?
5 Is not thy wickednes great, and thine iniquities innumerable?
Votre méchanceté n'est-elle pas grande? Il n'y a pas non plus de fin à vos iniquités.
6 For thou hast taken the pledge from thy brother for nought, and spoyled the clothes of the naked.
Car tu as pris des gages de ton frère pour rien, et ont dépouillé les nus de leurs vêtements.
7 To such as were wearie, thou hast not giuen water to drinke, and hast withdrawen bread from the hungrie.
Vous n'avez pas donné d'eau à boire à ceux qui sont fatigués, et vous avez refusé du pain aux affamés.
8 But the mightie man had the earth, and he that was in autoritie, dwelt in it.
Mais le puissant, lui, avait la terre. L'homme honorable, il y a vécu.
9 Thou hast cast out widowes emptie, and the armes of the fatherles were broken.
Tu as renvoyé les veuves à vide, et les bras de l'orphelin ont été brisés.
10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and feare shall suddenly trouble thee:
C'est pourquoi il y a des pièges autour de toi. Une peur soudaine vous trouble,
11 Or darkenes that thou shouldest not see, and abundance of waters shall couer thee.
ou l'obscurité, de sorte que vous ne pouvez pas voir, et des flots d'eaux te couvrent.
12 Is not God on hie in the heauen? and behold the height of the starres how hie they are.
« Dieu n'est-il pas dans les hauteurs du ciel? Voyez la hauteur des étoiles, comme elles sont hautes!
13 But thou sayest, How should God know? can he iudge through the darke cloude?
Vous dites: « Que sait Dieu? Peut-il juger à travers l'obscurité épaisse?
14 The cloudes hide him that he can not see, and he walketh in the circle of heauen.
Des nuages épais le couvrent, de sorte qu'il ne voit pas. Il marche sur la voûte du ciel.
15 Hast thou marked the way of the worlde, wherein wicked men haue walked?
Garderez-vous l'ancienne manière, que les hommes méchants ont foulés,
16 Which were cut downe before the time, whose foundation was as a riuer that ouerflowed:
qui ont été enlevés avant leur heure, dont le fondement a été déversé comme un torrent,
17 Which sayd vnto God, Depart from vs, and asked what the Almightie could do for them.
qui ont dit à Dieu: « Eloigne-toi de nous ». et « Que peut faire le Tout-Puissant pour nous? ».
18 Yet hee filled their houses with good things: but let the counsell of the wicked be farre from me.
Pourtant, il a rempli leurs maisons de bonnes choses, mais le conseil des méchants est loin de moi.
19 The righteous shall see them, and shall reioyce, and the innocent shall laugh them to scorne.
Les justes le voient et se réjouissent. Les innocents les ridiculisent,
20 Surely our substance is hid: but the fire hath deuoured the remnant of them.
en disant: « Ceux qui se sont élevés contre nous ont été exterminés. Le feu a consumé leur reste.
21 Therefore acquaint thy selfe, I pray thee, with him, and make peace: thereby thou shalt haue prosperitie.
« Fais connaissance avec lui maintenant, et sois en paix. Par elle, le bien viendra à toi.
22 Receiue, I pray thee, the law of his mouth, and lay vp his words in thine heart.
Veuillez recevoir l'instruction de sa bouche, et déposez ses paroles dans votre cœur.
23 If thou returne to the Almightie, thou shalt be buylt vp, and thou shalt put iniquitie farre from thy tabernacle.
Si vous revenez au Tout-Puissant, vous serez édifiés, si vous éloignez l'iniquité loin de vos tentes.
24 Thou shalt lay vp golde for dust, and the gold of Ophir, as the flintes of the riuers.
Dépose ton trésor dans la poussière, l'or d'Ophir parmi les pierres des ruisseaux.
25 Yea, the Almightie shalbe thy defence, and thou shalt haue plentie of siluer.
Le Tout-Puissant sera ton trésor, et de l'argent précieux pour vous.
26 And thou shalt then delite in the Almightie, and lift vp thy face vnto God.
Car alors tu te complairas dans le Tout-Puissant, et tu lèveras ton visage vers Dieu.
27 Thou shalt make thy praier vnto him, and he shall heare thee, and thou shalt render thy vowes.
Tu le prieras, et il t'écoutera. Tu paieras tes vœux.
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and he shall establish it vnto thee, and the light shall shine vpon thy wayes.
Tu décréteras aussi une chose, et elle sera établie pour toi. La lumière brillera sur vos chemins.
29 When others are cast downe, then shalt thou say, I am lifted vp: and God shall saue the humble person.
Lorsqu'ils s'abaisseront, tu diras: « Relève-toi ». Il sauvera l'humble personne.
30 The innocent shall deliuer the yland, and it shalbe preserued by the purenes of thine hands.
Ildélivrera même celui qui n'est pas innocent. Oui, il sera délivré par la propreté de vos mains. »
