Job 2
1 And on a day the children of God came and stood before the Lord, and Satan came also among them, and stoode before the Lord.
Or il arriva un jour que les enfants de Dieu vinrent pour se présenter devant l'Eternel, et que Satan aussi entra parmi eux pour se présenter devant l'Eternel.
2 Then the Lord sayde vnto Satan, Whence commest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and sayd, From compassing the earth to and from, and from walking in it.
Et l'Eternel dit à Satan: D'où viens-tu? Et Satan répondit à l'Eternel, en disant: Je viens de courir sur la terre, et de m'y promener.
3 And the Lord sayd vnto Satan, Hast thou not considered my seruant Iob, how none is like him in the earth? an vpright and iust man, one that feareth God, and escheweth euill? for yet he continueth in his vprightnesse, although thou mouedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
Et l'Eternel dit à Satan: N'as-tu point considéré mon serviteur Job, qui n'a point d'égal sur la terre; homme sincère et droit, craignant Dieu, et se détournant du mal? et qui même retient encore son intégrité, quoique tu m'aies incité contre lui pour l'engloutir sans sujet.
4 And Satan answered the Lord, and sayde, Skin for skin, and all that euer a man hath, will he giue for his life.
Et Satan répondit à l'Eternel, en disant: Chacun donnera peau pour peau, et tout ce qu'il a, pour sa vie.
5 But stretch now out thine hand, and touch his bones and his flesh, to see if he will not blaspheme thee to thy face.
Mais étends maintenant ta main, et frappe ses os et sa chair, [et tu verras] s'il ne te blasphème point en face.
6 Then the Lord said vnto Satan, Lo, he is in thine hand, but saue his life.
Et l'Eternel dit à Satan: Voici il est en ta main; seulement ne touche point à sa vie.
7 So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord, and smote Iob with sore boyles, from the sole of his foote vnto his crowne.
Ainsi Satan sortit de devant l'Eternel, et frappa Job d'un ulcère malin, depuis la plante de son pied jusqu'au sommet de la tête.
8 And he tooke a potsharde to scrape him, and he sate downe among the ashes.
Et Job prit un test pour s'en gratter; et était assis sur les cendres.
9 Then said his wife vnto him, Doest thou continue yet in thine vprightnes? Blaspheme God, and dye.
Et sa femme lui dit: Conserveras-tu encore ton intégrité? Bénis Dieu, et meurs.
10 But he said vnto her, Thou speakest like a foolish woman: what? shall we receiue good at the hande of God, and not receiue euill? In all this did not Iob sinne with his lippes.
Et il lui répondit: Tu parles comme une femme insensée. Quoi! nous recevrions de Dieu les biens, et nous n'en recevrions pas les maux? En tout cela Job ne pécha point par ses lèvres.
11 Nowe when Iobs three friends heard of all this euill that was come vpon him, they came euery one from his owne place, to wit, Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they were agreed together to come to lament with him, and to comfort him.
Or trois des intimes amis de Job, Eliphas Témanite, Bildad Suhite, et Tsophar Nahamathite, ayant appris tous les maux qui lui étaient arrivés, vinrent chacun du lieu de leur demeure, après être convenus ensemble d'un jour pour venir se condouloir avec lui, et le consoler.
12 So when they lift vp their eyes a farre off, they knewe him not: therefore they lift vp their voyces and wept, and euery one of them rent his garment, and sprinkled dust vpon their heads toward the heauen.
Et levant leurs yeux de loin ils ne le reconnurent point, et élevant leur voix ils pleurèrent; et ils déchirèrent chacun leur manteau, et répandirent de la poudre sur leurs têtes [en la jetant] vers les cieux.
13 So they sate by him vpon the ground seuen dayes, and seuen nights, and none spake a worde vnto him: for they sawe, that the griefe was very great.
Et ils s'assirent à terre avec lui, pendant sept jours et sept nuits, et nul d'eux ne lui dit rien, parce qu'ils voyaient que sa douleur était fort grande.
