Job 11
1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and sayde,
Or, répondant, Sophar, le Naamathite, dit:
2 Should not the multitude of wordes be answered? or should a great talker be iustified?
Est-ce que celui qui dit beaucoup de choses n’écoutera pas aussi? Ou bien un homme verbeux sera-t-il absous?
3 Should men holde their peace at thy lyes? and when thou mockest others, shall none make thee ashamed?
Est-ce pour toi seul que les hommes se tairont? Et lorsque tu auras raillé tous les autres, ne seras-tu réfuté par personne?
4 For thou hast sayde, My doctrine is pure, and I am cleane in thine eyes.
Car tu as dit: Ma parole est pure, et je suis sans tache, ô Dieu, en votre présence.
5 But, oh that God would speake and open his lippes against thee!
Et plût au ciel que Dieu parlât avec toi, et qu’il t’ouvrît ses lèvres,
6 That he might shewe thee the secretes of wisedome, howe thou hast deserued double, according to right: know therefore that God hath forgotten thee for thine iniquitie.
Pour te découvrir les secrets de sa sagesse, et combien sa loi est multiple! Alors tu comprendrais qu’il exige beaucoup moins de toi que ne mérite ton iniquité.
7 Canst thou by searching finde out God? canst thou finde out ye Almighty to his perfection?
Découvriras-tu par hasard les traces de Dieu, et atteindras-tu parfaitement jusqu’au Tout-Puissant?
8 The heauens are hie, what canst thou doe? it is deeper then the hell, how canst thou know it? (Sheol h7585)
Il est plus élevé que le ciel; que feras-tu donc? Il est plus profond que l’enfer; comment donc le connaîtras-tu? (Sheol h7585)
9 The measure thereof is longer then the earth, and it is broader then the sea.
Sa mesure est plus longue que la terre et plus large que la mer.
10 If hee cut off and shut vp, or gather together, who can turne him backe?
S’il renverse toutes choses, ou s’il les confond ensemble, qui le contredira?
11 For hee knoweth vaine men, and seeth iniquitie, and him that vnderstandeth nothing.
Car c’est lui qui connaît la vanité des hommes; or, voyant l’iniquité, est-ce qu’il ne la considère point?
12 Yet vaine man would be wise, though man new borne is like a wilde asse colte.
Un homme vain s’élève jusqu’à l’orgueil, et il se croit libre comme le petit d’un onagre.
13 If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him:
Pour toi, tu as endurci ton cœur, cependant tu as tendu tes mains vers Dieu.
14 If iniquitie be in thine hand, put it farre away, and let no wickednesse dwell in thy Tabernacle.
Si tu ôtes de toi l’iniquité qui est en ta main, et que l’injustice ne demeure pas dans ton tabernacle,
15 The truely shalt thou lift vp thy face without spot, and shalt be stable, and shalt not feare.
Alors, étant sans tache, tu pourras lever ta face; tu seras stable, et tu ne craindras pas;
16 But thou shalt forget thy miserie, and remember it as waters that are past.
Tu oublieras même ta misère, et tu t’en souviendras comme des eaux qui se sont écoulées.
17 Thine age also shall appeare more cleare then the noone day: thou shalt shine and bee as the morning.
Et il s’élèvera pour toi vers le soir comme une lumière éclatante du midi, et lorsque tu te crois consumé, tu te lèveras comme Lucifer.
18 And thou shalt bee bolde, because there is hope: and thou shalt digge pittes, and shalt lye downe safely.
Et tu auras confiance par l’espérance qui te sera proposée; et même enterré, tu dormiras tranquille.
19 For when thou takest thy rest, none shall make thee afraide: yea, many shall make sute vnto thee.
Ainsi tu jouiras du repos, et il n’y aura personne qui t’effrayera; le plus grand nombre même implorera ta face.
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall faile, and their refuge shall perish, and their hope shalbe sorow of minde.
Mais les yeux des impies défailliront; il n’y aura pas de refuge pour eux, et leur espérance deviendra l’abomination de leur âme.
