Jeremiah 8
1 At that time, sayeth the Lord, they shall bring out the bones of the Kings of Iudah, and the bones of their princes, and the bones of the Priests and the bones of the Prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Ierusalem out of their graues.
“En aquel tiempo, dice Yahvé, sacarán de sus sepulcros los huesos de los reyes de Judá, y los huesos de sus príncipes, y los huesos de los sacerdotes, y los huesos de los profetas, y los huesos de los habitantes de Jerusalén;
2 And they shall spread them before the sunne and the moone, and all the host of heauen, whom they haue loued, and whome they haue serued, and whome they haue followed, and whome they haue sought, and whome they haue worshipped: they shall not be gathered nor be buried, but shall be as doung vpon the earth.
y los expondrán al sol y a la luna, y a toda la milicia del cielo, a quienes ellos amaron y sirvieron, tras los cuales anduvieron, a los que consultaron, ante los cuales se postraron. No serán recogidos ni sepultados, servirán de estiércol para el campo.
3 And death shall bee desired rather then life of all the residue that remaineth of this wicked familie, which remaine in all the places where I haue scattered them, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
Y todos los que quedaren de esta raza perversa, en todos los lugares a donde los habré arrojado, preferirán la muerte a la vida, dice Yahvé de los ejércitos.
4 Thou shalt say vnto them also, Thus sayeth the Lord, Shall they fall and not arise? shall he turne away and not turne againe?
Les dirás: Así dice Yahvé: Acaso el que cae, ¿no se levanta luego? y el que se va, ¿no vuelve?
5 Wherefore is this people of Ierusalem turned backe by a perpetuall rebellion? they gaue themselues to deceit, and would not returne.
¿Por qué, pues, se ha desviado este pueblo de Jerusalén, para apostatar para siempre? ¿Por qué se obstinan en el engaño y rehúsan convertirse?
6 I hearkened and heard, but none spake aright: no man repented him of his wickednesse, saying, What haue I done? euery one turned to their race, as the horse rusheth into the battell.
Estoy atento y escucho: no hablan con sinceridad, no hay quien se arrepienta de su maldad, preguntándose: «¿Qué es lo que he hecho?» Todos han vuelto a tomar su carrera, como caballo que se lanza a la batalla.
7 Euen the storke in the aire knoweth her appointed times, and the turtle and the crane and the swallowe obserue the time of their comming, but my people knoweth not the iudgement of the Lord.
Aun la cigüeña en el aire conoce su tiempo, la tórtola, la golondrina y la grulla saben cuándo han de venir: pero mi pueblo no conoce lo debido a Yahvé.
8 Howe doe yee say, Wee are wise, and the Lawe of the Lord is with vs? Loe, certeinly in vaine made hee it, the penne of the scribes is in vaine.
¿Cómo decís: «Sabios somos; poseemos la Ley de Yahvé»? más he aquí que la pluma mentirosa de los escribas la ha convertido en mentira.
9 The wise men are ashamed: they are afraid and taken. loe, they haue reiected the word of the Lord, and what wisdome is in them?
Confundidos están los sabios, consternados y presos; pues han rechazado la palabra de Yahvé. ¿Qué sabiduría puede haber en ellos?
10 Therefore will I giue their wiues vnto others, and their fieldes to them that shall possesse them: for euery one from the least euen vnto the greatest is giuen to couetousnesse, and from the Prophet euen vnto the Priest, euery one dealeth falsely.
Por lo cual daré sus mujeres a otros, y sus campos a (nuevos) poseedores, porque desde el menor hasta el mayor, todos se dejan llevar de la avaricia, desde el profeta hasta el sacerdote, todos practican el fraude.
11 For they haue healed the hurt of the daughter of my people with sweete woordes, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.
Curan la llaga de mi pueblo a la ligera, diciendo: «¡Paz, paz!», cuando no hay paz.
12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not ashamed, neither coulde they haue any shame: therefore shall they fall among the slaine: when I shall visite them, they shall be cast downe, sayeth the Lord.
Serán confundidos porque cometen abominaciones. Pero en nada se avergüenzan, ni aun saben lo que es vergüenza. Por tanto caerán con los que han de caer; serán derribados en el día de su castigo, dice Yahvé.
13 I wil surely consume them, sayth the Lord: there shalbe no grapes on the vine, nor figges on the figtree, and the leafe shall fade, and the things that I haue giuen them, shall depart from them.
Acabaré del todo con ellos, dice Yahvé: no quedará uva en la vid, ni en la higuera higos; incluso el follaje se marchitará; y les aplicaré todavía (más castigos) que pasarán sobre ellos.
14 Why doe we stay? assemble your selues, and let vs enter into the strong cities, and let vs be quiet there: for the Lord our God hath put vs to silence and giuen vs water with gall to drinke, because we haue sinned against the Lord.
«¿Por qué nos quedamos sentados? Congregaos, y vamos a las ciudades fuertes para perecer allí; pues Yahvé, nuestro Dios, nos hace perecer, y nos da a beber agua de hiel, por haber pecado contra Yahvé.
15 We looked for peace, but no good came, and for a time of health, and behold troubles.
¿Esperar la paz? pero no viene ningún bien; ¿el tiempo de salud? y no hay más que terror.»
16 The neying of his horses was heard from Dan, the whole lande trembled at the noyse of the neying of his strong horses: for they are come, and haue deuoured the land with all that is in it, the citie, and those that dwell therein.
Ya se oye desde Dan el resoplido de sus caballos; al relincho estrepitoso de sus corceles tiembla toda la tierra. Ya llegan y devoran el país y cuanto contiene, la ciudad y sus habitantes.
17 For beholde, I will sende serpents, and cockatrices among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall sting you, sayth the Lord.
Pues he aquí que enviaré contra vosotros serpientes y basiliscos, contra los cuales no sirve el encantamiento; os morderán”, dice Yahvé.
18 I would haue comforted my selfe against sorowe, but mine heart is heauie in me.
¡Oh si hubiera consuelo en mi dolor! mi corazón desmaya dentro de mí.
19 Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people for feare of them of a farre countrey, Is not the Lord in Zion? is not her king in her? Why haue they prouoked mee to anger with their grauen images, and with the vanities of a strange god?
Oigo la voz de la hija de mi pueblo que grita desde una tierra remota: “¿Por ventura Yahvé no está más en Sión? ¿No está ya en ella su Rey?” “¿Por qué me provocaron con sus ídolos, con diosas extrañas?”
20 The haruest is past, the sommer is ended, and we are not holpen.
“¡Pasó la siega, y el verano se acabó, y nosotros no hemos sido salvados!”
21 I am sore vexed for the hurt of ye daughter of my people: I am heauie, and astonishment hath taken me.
Por la ruina de la hija de mi pueblo estoy arruinado, estoy de luto, el espanto se ha apoderado de mí.
22 Is there no balme at Gilead? is there no Physition there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recouered.
¿No hay ya bálsamo en Galaad? ¿No existe médico allí? ¿Por qué, pues, no se venda (la llaga) de la hija de mi pueblo?
