Jeremiah 8
1 At that time, sayeth the Lord, they shall bring out the bones of the Kings of Iudah, and the bones of their princes, and the bones of the Priests and the bones of the Prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Ierusalem out of their graues.
En ce temps-là, — oracle de Yahweh, on tirera de leurs sépulcres les os des rois de Juda, et les os de ses princes, et les os des prêtres, et les os des prophètes, et les os des habitants de Jérusalem.
2 And they shall spread them before the sunne and the moone, and all the host of heauen, whom they haue loued, and whome they haue serued, and whome they haue followed, and whome they haue sought, and whome they haue worshipped: they shall not be gathered nor be buried, but shall be as doung vpon the earth.
On les étendra devant le soleil et devant la lune, et devant toute l'armée des cieux, qu'ils ont aimés et qu'ils ont servis, après lesquels ils ont marché, qu'ils ont consultés et qu'ils ont adorés; ces os ne seront ni recueillis, ni enterrés, ils deviendront un engrais sur la face de la terre.
3 And death shall bee desired rather then life of all the residue that remaineth of this wicked familie, which remaine in all the places where I haue scattered them, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
Et la mort sera préférée à la vie par tous ceux qui resteront de cette méchante race, dans tous les lieux où je les aurai chassés, — oracle de Yahweh des armées.
4 Thou shalt say vnto them also, Thus sayeth the Lord, Shall they fall and not arise? shall he turne away and not turne againe?
Dis-leur: Ainsi parle Yahweh: Est-ce qu'on tombe sans se relever? Est-ce qu'on s'égare sans revenir?
5 Wherefore is this people of Ierusalem turned backe by a perpetuall rebellion? they gaue themselues to deceit, and would not returne.
Pourquoi donc ce peuple de Jérusalem s'égare-t-il d'un égarement continuel? Ils s'attachent avec force au mensonge; ils refusent de revenir!
6 I hearkened and heard, but none spake aright: no man repented him of his wickednesse, saying, What haue I done? euery one turned to their race, as the horse rusheth into the battell.
J'ai fait attention et j'ai écouté: ils ne parlent pas comme il faut; nul ne se repent de sa méchanceté, en disant: " Qu'ai-je fait? " Tous reprennent leur course, comme un cheval qui s'élance dans la bataille.
7 Euen the storke in the aire knoweth her appointed times, and the turtle and the crane and the swallowe obserue the time of their comming, but my people knoweth not the iudgement of the Lord.
Même la cigogne dans les airs connaît sa saison; la tourterelle, l'hirondelle et la grue, observent le temps de leur retour; mais mon peuple ne connaît pas la loi de Yahweh.
8 Howe doe yee say, Wee are wise, and the Lawe of the Lord is with vs? Loe, certeinly in vaine made hee it, the penne of the scribes is in vaine.
Comment pouvez-vous dire: Nous sommes sages, et la loi de Yahweh est avec nous? — Voici que le style mensonger des scribes en a fait un mensonge!
9 The wise men are ashamed: they are afraid and taken. loe, they haue reiected the word of the Lord, and what wisdome is in them?
Les sages sont confondus, consternés et pris; voici qu'ils ont rejeté la parole de Yahweh, et quelle sagesse ont-ils?...
10 Therefore will I giue their wiues vnto others, and their fieldes to them that shall possesse them: for euery one from the least euen vnto the greatest is giuen to couetousnesse, and from the Prophet euen vnto the Priest, euery one dealeth falsely.
C'est pourquoi je donnerai leurs femmes à d’autres, et leurs champs à d'autres possesseurs; car du plus petit au plus grand, tous se livrent à la rapine; et du prophète au prêtre, tous pratiquent le mensonge.
11 For they haue healed the hurt of the daughter of my people with sweete woordes, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.
Ils traitent à la légère la plaie de la fille de mon peuple, en disant: " Paix, Paix! " et il n'y a point de paix.
12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not ashamed, neither coulde they haue any shame: therefore shall they fall among the slaine: when I shall visite them, they shall be cast downe, sayeth the Lord.
Ils seront confondus, car ils ont commis des abominations. Mais ils ne savent même plus rougir, et ils ne connaissent plus la honte. C'est pourquoi ils tomberont avec ceux qui tombent; ils s'affaisseront au jour où je les visiterai, dit Yahweh.
13 I wil surely consume them, sayth the Lord: there shalbe no grapes on the vine, nor figges on the figtree, and the leafe shall fade, and the things that I haue giuen them, shall depart from them.
Je vais les ramasser, les emporter, — oracle de Yahweh. Plus de raisins à la vigne, ni de figues au figuier, et la feuille même est flétrie! Et je leur ai donné des gens qui envahiront leur pays.
14 Why doe we stay? assemble your selues, and let vs enter into the strong cities, and let vs be quiet there: for the Lord our God hath put vs to silence and giuen vs water with gall to drinke, because we haue sinned against the Lord.
Pourquoi restons-nous assis? Rassemblez-vous et allons dans les villes fortes et nous y périrons! Puisque Yahweh notre Dieu nous fait périr et nous fait boire des eaux empoisonnées, parce que nous avons péché contre Yahweh!...
15 We looked for peace, but no good came, and for a time of health, and behold troubles.
Nous attendions la paix, et il n'y a rien de bon; le temps de la guérison, et voici la terreur!
16 The neying of his horses was heard from Dan, the whole lande trembled at the noyse of the neying of his strong horses: for they are come, and haue deuoured the land with all that is in it, the citie, and those that dwell therein.
On entend depuis Dan le ronflement de ses chevaux; au bruit du hennissement de ses coursiers, toute la terre tremble; ils arrivent, ils dévorent le pays et ce qu'il renferme, la ville et ses habitants.
17 For beholde, I will sende serpents, and cockatrices among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall sting you, sayth the Lord.
Car voici que j'envoie contre vous des serpents, des aspics, contre lesquels il n'y a pas d'enchantement; ils vous mordront, — oracle de Yahweh.
18 I would haue comforted my selfe against sorowe, but mine heart is heauie in me.
O ma consolation dans ma douleur! Mon cœur languit au dedans de moi.
19 Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people for feare of them of a farre countrey, Is not the Lord in Zion? is not her king in her? Why haue they prouoked mee to anger with their grauen images, and with the vanities of a strange god?
Voici que le cri de détresse de la fille de mon peuple m'arrive d'une terre lointaine: " Yahweh n'est-il plus en Sion? Son roi n'est-il plus au milieu d'elle? " — Pourquoi m'ont-ils irrité par leurs idoles, par les vanités de l'étranger? —
20 The haruest is past, the sommer is ended, and we are not holpen.
" La moisson est passée, la récolte est finie, et nous, nous ne sommes pas délivrés! " —
21 I am sore vexed for the hurt of ye daughter of my people: I am heauie, and astonishment hath taken me.
Je suis meurtri de la meurtrissure de la fille de mon peuple; je suis dans le deuil; l'épouvante m'a saisi.
22 Is there no balme at Gilead? is there no Physition there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recouered.
N'y a-t-il plus de baume de Galaad, ne s'y trouve-t-il plus de médecin? Pourquoi donc n'a-t-on pas mis un bandage à la fille de mon peuple?
