Jeremiah 6
1 O ye children of Beniamin, prepare to flee out of the middes of Ierusalem, and blowe the trumpet in Tekoa: set vp a standart vpon Beth-haccerem: for a plague appeareth out of the North and great destruction.
Fuyez, enfants de Benjamin, du milieu de Jérusalem! Sonnez de la trompette à Thécua, et élevez des signaux à Béthacarem! Car un malheur s’avance du septentrion, et un grand désastre.
2 I haue compared the daughter of Zion to a beautifull and daintie woman.
La belle et la voluptueuse, je la détruis, la fille de Sion!
3 The pastors with their flockes shall come vnto her: they shall pitche their tentes rounde about by her, and euery one shall feede in his place.
Vers elle viennent des bergers avec leurs troupeaux; ils planteront leurs tentes autour d’elle; chacun pâturera son quartier.
4 Prepare warre against her: arise, and let vs goe vp toward the South: wo vnto vs: for the day declineth, and the shadowes of the euening are stretched out.
Inaugurez le combat contre elle: levez-vous, montons à l’assaut en plein midi! Malheur à nous, car le jour baisse, les ombres du soir s’allongent.
5 Arise, and let vs goe vp by night, and destroy her palaces.
Levez-vous, escaladons de nuit, et détruisons son palais!
6 For thus hath the Lord of hostes said, Hewe downe wood, and cast a mounte against Ierusalem: this citie must be visited: all oppression is in the middes of it.
Car ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: Abattez ses arbres, élevez des terrasses contre Jérusalem; c’est la ville à punir, il n’y a dans son sein qu’injustice.
7 As the fountaine casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her malice: crueltie and spoyle is continually heard in her before me with sorowe and strokes.
Comme un puits fait sourdre ses eaux, ainsi fait-elle sourdre sa méchanceté. On n’y entend que violence et que ruine; plaies et blessures y sont constamment devant ma face.
8 Be thou instructed, O Ierusalem, lest my soule depart from thee, lest I make thee desolate as a land, that none inhabiteth.
Amende-toi, Jérusalem, de peur que mon âme ne se détache de toi, que je ne fasse de toi un désert, un pays inhabité.
9 Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes, They shall gather as a vine, the residue of Israel: turne backe thine hande as the grape gatherer into the baskets.
Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: On grappillera comme une vigne les restes d’Israël; mets et remets la main, comme fait le vendangeur aux sarments.
10 Vnto whome shall I speake, and admonish that they may heare? beholde, their eares are vncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: beholde, the worde of the Lord is vnto them as a reproche: they haue no delite in it.
A qui parler, qui adjurer pour qu’il m’entende? Voici que leurs oreilles sont incirconcises, et ils sont incapables de faire attention. Voici que la parole de Yahweh est devenue pour eux un opprobre; et ils n’y prennent aucun plaisir.
11 Therefore I am full of the wrath of the Lord: I am weary with holding it: I will powre it out vpon the children in the streete, and likewise vpon the assembly of the yong men: for the husband shall euen be taken with the wife, and the aged with him that is full of daies.
Mais je suis rempli de la colère de Yahweh, je suis las de la contenir. Verse-la sur l’enfant dans la rue et sur la réunion des jeunes gens! Car le mari et la femme, tous seront pris, ainsi que le vieillard et l’homme chargé de jours.
12 And their houses with their landes, and wiues also shalbe turned vnto strangers: for I will stretch out mine hande vpon the inhabitants of the land, sayeth the Lord.
Leurs maisons passeront à d’autres, leurs champs et leurs femmes également; car j’étendrai ma main sur les habitants du pays, — oracle de Yahweh.
13 For from the least of them, euen vnto the greatest of them, euery one is giuen vnto couetousnesse, and from the Prophet euen vnto the Priest, they all deale falsely.
Car du plus petit au plus grand, tous se livrent à la rapine, et du prophète au prêtre, tous pratiquent le mensonge.
14 They haue healed also ye hurt of the daughter of my people with sweete woordes, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.
Ils traitent à la légère la plaie de la fille de mon peuple, en disant: Paix, paix! alors qu’il n’y a pas de paix.
15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not ashamed, no neither coulde they haue any shame: therefore they shall fall among the slaine: when I shall visite them, they shall be cast downe, sayth the Lord.
Ils seront confondus, car ils ont commis des abominations; mais ils ne savent même plus rougir, et ils ne connaissent plus la honte! C’est pourquoi ils tomberont avec ceux qui tombent; ils s’affaisseront au jour où je les visiterai, dit Yahweh.
16 Thus sayeth the Lord, Stande in the waies and beholde, and aske for the olde way, which is the good way and walke therein, and yee shall finde rest for your soules: but they saide, We will not walke therein.
Ainsi parle Yahweh: Tenez-vous sur les routes, et voyez; informez-vous des sentiers d’autrefois; Quelle est la voie du salut? et suivez-la, et vous trouverez du repos pour vos âmes. Mais ils ont répondu: « Nous n’y marcherons pas! »
17 Also I set watchmen ouer you, which said, Take heede to the sound of the trumpet: but they said, We will not take heede.
J’ai placé près de vous des sentinelles: « Soyez attentifs au son de la trompette! » Mais ils ont répondu: « Nous n’y ferons pas attention! »
18 Heare therefore, yee Gentiles, and thou Congregation knowe, what is among them.
Aussi, écoutez, nations; sache, assemblée des peuples, ce qui leur arrivera;
19 Heare, O earth, beholde, I will cause a plague to come vpon this people, euen the fruite of their owne imaginations: because they haue not taken heede vnto my woordes, nor to my Lawe, but cast it off.
terre, écoute: Voici que je fais venir un malheur contre ce peuple, le fruit de ses pensées; car ils n’ont pas été attentifs à mes paroles; et ils ont rejeté ma loi.
20 To what purpose bringest thou mee incense from Sheba, and sweete calamus from a farre countrey? Your burnt offerings are not pleasant, nor your sacrifices sweete vnto me.
Que me fait l’encens venu de Saba et le roseau précieux d’un pays lointain? Vos holocaustes ne me plaisent point, vos sacrifices ne me sont pas agréables.
21 Therefore thus sayeth the Lord, Beholde, I will laie stumbling blockes before this people, and the fathers and the sonnes together shall fall vpon them: the neighbour and his friende shall perish.
C’est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh: Voici que je mets devant ce peuple des pierres d’achoppement; les pères et les fils s’y heurteront ensemble, l’habitant et son voisin périront.
22 Thus sayeth the Lord, Beholde, a people commeth from the North countrey, and a great nation shall arise from the sides of the earth.
Ainsi parle Yahweh: Voici qu’un peuple arrive du pays du septentrion, qu’une grande nation se lève des extrémités de la terre.
23 With bowe and shield shall they be weaponed: they are cruell and will haue no compassion: their voyce roareth like the sea, and they ride vpon horses, well appointed, like men of warre against thee, O daughter Zion.
Ils manient l’arc et le javelot; ils ont cruels et sans pitié, leur voix gronde comme la mer; ils sont montés sur des chevaux, prêts à combattre comme un seul homme, contre toi, fille de Sion.
24 We haue heard their fame, and our handes waxe feeble sorrowe is come vpon vs, as the sorrowe of a woman in trauaile.
A la nouvelle de leur approche, nos mains ont défailli, l’angoisse nous a saisis, les douleurs d’une femme qui enfante.
25 Goe not foorth into the fielde, nor walke by the way: for the sword of the enemie and feare is on euery side.
Ne sortez pas aux champs, n’allez pas sur les chemins; car l’ennemi tient l’épée, et l’épouvante règne à l’entour.
26 O daughter of my people, girde thee with sackecloth, and wallowe thy selfe in the ashes: make lamentation, and bitter mourning as for thine onely sonne: for the destroier shall suddenly come vpon vs.
Fille de mon peuple, ceins le cilice, roule-toi dans la cendre, prends le deuil comme pour un fils unique, fais des lamentations amères; car soudain le dévastateur arrive sur nous.
27 I haue set thee for a defence and fortresse among my people, that thou maiest knowe and trie their waies.
Je t’ai établi dans mon peuple comme un essayeur, une forteresse, pour que tu connaisses et éprouves leurs voies.
28 They are all rebellious traitours, walking craftily: they are brasse, and yron, they all are destroyers.
Ils sont tous des rebelles entre les rebelles; ils sèment la calomnie; c’est du cuivre et du fer; tous sont corrompus.
29 The bellowes are burnt: the lead is consumed in the fire: the founder melteth in vaine: for the wicked are not taken away.
Le soufflet est devenu la proie du feu, le plomb est épuisé; en vain l’on épure, l’on épure; les méchants ne se détachent pas.
30 They shall call them reprobate siluer, because the Lord hath reiected them.
« Argent de rebut! » dira-t-on; car Yahweh les a mis au rebut.
