Jeremiah 5
1 Run to and from by the streetes of Ierusalem, and beholde nowe, and knowe, and inquire in the open places thereof, if ye can finde a man, or if there be any that executeth iudgement, and seeketh the trueth, and I will spare it.
Correi pelas ruas de Jerusalém, e olhai agora, e informai-vos, e buscai em suas praças, [para ver] se achais algum homem, se há alguém que faça juízo, que busque a verdade; e eu a perdoarei.
2 For though they say, The Lord liueth, yet doe they sweare falsely.
E ainda que digam: Vive o SENHOR; contudo juram falsamente.
3 O Lord, are not thine eyes vpon the trueth? thou hast striken them, but they haue not sorowed: thou hast consumed them, but they haue refused to receiue correction: they haue made their faces harder then a stone, and haue refused to returne.
Ah SENHOR, por acaso teus olhos não [enxergam] a verdade? Tu os feriste, mas não lhes doeu; tu os consumiste, mas não aceitaram receber correção; endureceram seus rostos mais que rocha; não quiseram se converter.
4 Therefore I saide, Surely they are poore, they are foolish, for they know not the way of the Lord, nor the iudgement of their God.
Eu porém disse: Certamente eles são pobres; enlouqueceram, pois não conhecem o caminho do SENHOR, o juízo de seu Deus.
5 I will get me vnto the great men, and will speake vnto them: for they haue knowen the way of the Lord, and the iudgement of their God: but these haue altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bondes.
Irei aos grandes, e falarei com eles; porque eles conhecem o caminho do SENHOR, o juízo de seu Deus. Porém eles também quebraram o jugo; [também] romperam as amarras.
6 Wherefore a lyon out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolfe of the wildernesse shall destroy them: a leopard shall watch ouer their cities: euery one that goeth out thence, shall be torne in pieces, because their trespasses are many, and their rebellions are increased.
Por isso um leão do bosque os ferirá; um lobo do deserto os destruirá; um leopardo vigiará sobre suas cidades; qualquer um que delas sair, será despedaçado; pois suas transgressões se multiplicaram, foram numerosas suas infidelidades.
7 Howe should I spare thee for this? thy children haue forsaken me, and sworne by them that are no gods: though I fed them to the full, yet they committed adulterie, and assembled them selues by companies in the harlots houses.
Como te perdoaria por isto? Teus filhos me deixaram, e juram pelo que não é Deus. Eu os saciei, porém eles adulteraram, e se aglomeraram em casa de prostitutas.
8 They rose vp in the morning like fed horses: for euery man neyed after his neighbours wife.
[Como] cavalos bem alimentados, levantam-se pela manhã; cada um relinchava à mulher de seu próximo.
9 Shall I not visite for these things, saith the Lord? Shall not my soule be auenged on such a nation as this?
Não teria eu de fazer visitação sobre isto? diz o SENHOR. De uma nação como esta não vingaria minha alma?
10 Clime vp vpon their walles, and destroy them, but make not a full ende: take away their batilments, for they are not the Lords.
Subi seus muros, e destruí; mas não destruais por completo. Tirai os ramos de seus muros, porque não pertencem ao SENHOR.
11 For the house of Israel, and the house of Iudah haue grieuously trespassed against me, saith the Lord.
Pois a casa de Israel e a casa de Judá traíram enganosamente contra mim, diz o SENHOR.
12 They haue denied the Lord, and saide, It is not he, neither shall the plague come vpon vs, neither shall we see sworde nor famine.
Negaram ao SENHOR, e disseram: Não é ele; não virá mal sobre nós; não veremos espada, nem fome;
13 And the Prophetes shall be as winde, and the worde is not in them: thus shall it come vnto them.
e até os profetas serão [como] o vento, pois a palavra não está neles; assim acontecerá a eles mesmos.
14 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God of hostes, Because ye speake such wordes, beholde, I will put my wordes into thy mouth, like a fire, and this people shall be as wood, and it shall deuoure them.
Portanto assim diz o SENHOR Deus dos exércitos: Visto que falastes esta palavra, eis que tornarei minhas palavras em tua boca em fogo, e a este povo será lenha; e [o fogo] os consumirá.
15 Loe, I will bring a nation vpon you from farre, O house of Israel, saith the Lord, which is a mightie nation, and an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither vnderstandest what they say.
Eis que trarei sobre vós uma nação de longe, ó casa de Israel, diz o SENHOR; uma nação forte, nação bastante antiga; uma nação cuja língua não saberás, e o que falarem não entenderás.
16 Whose quiuer is as an open sepulchre: they are all very strong.
Sua aljava é como uma sepultura aberta; todos eles são poderosos.
17 And they shall eate thine haruest and thy bread: they shall deuoure thy sonnes and thy daughters: they shall eate vp thy sheepe and thy bullocks: they shall eate thy vines and thy figge trees: they shall destroy with the sworde thy fenced cities, wherein thou didest trust.
E comerão tua colheita e teu pão, que teus filhos e tuas filhas comeriam; comerão tuas ovelhas e tuas vacas, comerão tuas vides e tuas figueiras; e derrubarão por meio da espada tuas cidades fortes em que confias.
18 Neuerthelesse at those dayes, sayth the Lord, I will not make a full ende of you.
Porém naqueles dias, diz o SENHOR, não vos acabarei por completo.
19 And when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the Lord our God doe these things vnto vs? then shalt thou answere them, Like as ye haue forsaken me and serued strange gods in your land, so shall ye serue strangers in a land that is not yours.
E será que quando disserdes: Por que o SENHOR nosso Deus fez conosco todas estas coisas? Então lhes dirás: Assim como vós me abandonastes e servistes a deuses estrangeiros em vossa terra, assim também servireis a estrangeiros numa terra que não é vossa.
20 Declare this in the house of Iaakob, and publish it in Iudah, saying,
Anunciai isto na casa de Jacó, e fazei com que isto se ouça em Judá, dizendo:
21 Heare nowe this, O foolish people, and without vnderstanding, which haue eyes and see not, which haue eares and heare not.
Ouvi agora isto, ó povo tolo e insensato, que têm olhos e não veem, que têm ouvidos e não ouvem:
22 Feare ye not me, saith the Lord? or will ye not be afraide at my presence, which haue placed the sand for the bounds of the sea by the perpetuall decree that it cannot passe it, and though the waues thereof rage, yet can they not preuaile, though they roare, yet can they not passe ouer it?
Por acaso não me temereis? diz o SENHOR; Não vos assombrareis perante mim, que pus a areia por limite ao mar por ordenança eterna, a qual não passará? Ainda que se levantarem suas ondas, mas elas não prevalecerão; ainda que bramem, não a passarão.
23 But this people hath an vnfaithfull and rebellious heart: they are departed and gone.
Porém este povo tem coração teimoso e rebelde; viraram-se, e se foram.
24 For they say not in their heart, Let vs nowe feare the Lord our God, that giueth raine both early and late in due season: hee reserueth vnto vs the appointed weekes of the haruest.
Nem sequer dizem em seu coração: Temamos agora ao SENHOR nosso Deus, que dá chuva temporã e tardia em seu tempo; os tempos estabelecidos da ceifa ele nos guarda.
25 Yet your iniquities haue turned away these things, and your sinnes haue hindred good things from you.
Vossas perversidades têm desviado estas coisas; e vossos pecados afastaram de vós o bem.
26 For among my people are founde wicked persons, that lay waite as hee that setteth snares: they haue made a pit, to catch men.
Porque foram achados perversos em meu povo; eles espiavam como quem põe laços; puseram armadilhas para prenderem homens.
27 As a cage is full of birdes, so are their houses full of deceite: thereby they are become great and waxen riche.
Como uma gaiola cheia de pássaros, assim estão suas casas cheias de engano: assim eles se fizeram grandes e ricos.
28 They are waxen fat and shining: they doe ouerpasse the deedes of the wicked: they execute no iudgement, no not the iudgement of the fatherlesse: yet they prosper, though they execute no iudgement for the poore.
Eles se engordaram e ficaram lustrosos, e ultrapassaram os limites das obras do mal; não julgam causa nenhuma, [nem sequer] a causa do órfão; porém fizeram-se prósperos; nem julgam o direito dos necessitados.
29 Shall I not visite for these things, sayth the Lord? or shall not my soule be auenged on such a nation as this?
Por acaso eu não [os] puniria por causa disto? Diz o SENHOR; e de tal nação não se vingará minha alma?
30 An horrible and filthie thing is committed in the land.
Uma coisa espantosa e horrível está sendo feita na terra:
31 The Prophets prophesie lies, and ye Priests receiue giftes in their handes, and my people delite therein. What will ye then doe in the ende thereof?
Os profetas profetizam falsamente, e os sacerdotes exercem liderança por suas próprias mãos; e meu povo assim o quer. Mas o que fareis quando isto chegar ao fim?
