Jeremiah 49
1 Unto the children of Ammon thus saith the Lord, Hath Israel no sonnes? or hath he none heire? Why then hath their king possessed God? and his people dwelt in his cities?
Contre les fils d'Ammon. Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Israël n'a-t-il donc point de fils, ou est-il sans héritier?…. Pourquoi Malcam est-il maître de Gad, et son peuple habite-t-il ses cités?…
2 Therefore beholde the dayes come, sayeth the Lord, that I will cause a noyse of warre to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites, and it shall be a desolate heape, and her daughters shall be burnt with fire: then shall Israel possesse those that possessed him, sayeth the Lord.
C'est pourquoi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où je ferai retentir contre Rabbath des fils d'Ammon le cri de guerre, et elle deviendra un monceau de décombres, et ses filles seront brûlées par le feu, et Israël sera maître de ses maîtres, dit l'Éternel.
3 Howle, O Heshbon, for Ai is wasted: crie ye daughters of Rabbah: girde you with sackecloth: mourne and runne to and from by the hedges: for their King shall goe into captiuitie; and his Priestes, and his princes likewise.
Gémis, Hesbon, car Aï est désolée. Criez, filles de Rabbath, ceignez le cilice, lamentez-vous, et courez çà et là entre les enclos; car Malcam part pour la captivité, et ses prêtres et ses princes avec lui.
4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleis? thy valley floweth away, O rebellious daughter: she trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come vnto me?
Pourquoi te glorifies-tu de tes vallées? [Le sang] coulera dans ta vallée, fille rebelle qui te confiais dans tes trésors [disant]: « Qui est-ce qui m'envahirait? »
5 Beholde, I will bring a feare vpon thee, sayth the Lord God of hostes, of all those that be about thee, and ye shalbe scattered euery man right foorth, and none shall gather him that fleeth.
Voici, je te ferai envahir par la terreur, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel des armées, de tous tes alentours, et vous serez chassés chacun devant soi, sans que personne recueille les fugitifs.
6 And afterward I will bring againe the captiuitie of the children of Ammon.
Mais après cela, je ramènerai les captifs des fils d'Ammon, dit l'Éternel.
7 To Edom thus sayeth the Lord of hostes: Is wisdome no more in Teman? is counsel perished from their children? is their wisdome vanished?
Contre Édom. Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: N'y a-t-il plus de sagesse à Théman? Les prudents conseillers ont-ils péri? la sagesse leur a-t-elle échappé?
8 Flee, ye inhabitants of Dedan (they are turned backe, and haue consulted to dwell) for I haue brought the destruction of Esau vpon him, and the time of his visitation.
Fuyez, tournez le dos, cachez-vous dans les fonds, habitants de Dedan! Car je fais venir la peine d'Ésaü sur lui, le temps de son châtiment.
9 If the grape gatherers come to thee, would they not leaue some grapes? if theeues come by night, they will destroy till they haue ynough.
Si des vendangeurs t'envahissaient, ne laisseraient-ils pas à grappiller? Et si c'étaient des voleurs de nuit, ils ne feraient que le dégât nécessaire.
10 For I haue discouered Esau: I haue vncouered his secrets, and he shall not be able to hide himselfe: his seede is wasted, and his brethren and his neighbours, and there shall be none to say,
[Il n'en sera pas ainsi!] car moi, je vais dépouiller Ésaü, découvrir ce qu'il enfouit; il voudra se cacher, et il ne pourra. Sa race est détruite, ses frères et ses voisins aussi, et ils ne sont plus.
11 Leaue thy fathers children, and I will preserue them aliue, and let thy widowes trust in me.
Abandonne tes orphelins, je les ferai vivre, et que tes veuves se reposent sur moi!
12 For thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, they whose iudgement was not to drinke of the cuppe, haue assuredly drunken, and art thou he that shall escape free? thou shalt not goe free, but thou shalt surely drinke of it.
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, ceux qui ne devaient pas boire le calice, le boivent; et toi, tu serais exemptée! Tu ne seras pas exemptée, car tu auras à le boire.
13 For I haue sworne by my selfe, sayeth the Lord, that Bozrah shall be waste, and for a reproche, and a desolation, and a curse, and all the cities thereof shall be perpetuall desolations.
Car je le jure par moi-même, dit l'Éternel, Botsra sera livrée à la désolation, à l'opprobre, au ravage et à la malédiction, et toutes ses villes deviendront des solitudes éternelles.
14 I haue heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassadour is sent vnto the heathen, saying, Gather you together, and come against her, and rise vp to the battell.
J'ai reçu un avis de l'Éternel, et un messager a été envoyé parmi les nations: « Rassemblez-vous, et envahissez-la, et levez-vous pour le combat! »
15 For loe, I will make thee but small among the heathen, and despised among men.
Car voici, je te rendrai petit parmi les peuples, méprisé parmi les hommes.
16 Thy feare, and ye pride of thine heart hath deceiued thee, thou that dwellest in the cleftes of the rocke, and keepest the height of ye hil: though thou shouldest make thy nest as hie as the eagle, I wil bring thee downe from thece, sayth the Lord.
La terreur que tu inspirais, t'a séduite, l'orgueil de ton cœur, parce que tu habites les asiles des rochers, et que tu es maîtresse de la cime des montagnes. Quand même tu places ton aire aussi haut que l'aigle, de là je te précipiterai, dit l'Éternel.
17 Also Edom shall be desolate: euery one that goeth by it, shall be astonished, and shall hisse at all the plagues thereof,
Et l'Idumée sera dévastée; quiconque passera près d'elle, frissonnera et se rira de toutes ses plaies.
18 As in the ouerthrowe of Sodom, and of Gomorah, and the places thereof neere about, saieth the Lord: no man shall dwell there, neither shall the sonnes of men remaine in it.
Comme au bouleversement de Sodome et de Gomorrhe et des villes voisines, dit l'Éternel, de même il n'y habitera personne, elle ne sera le séjour d'aucun homme.
19 Beholde, hee shall come vp like a lyon from the swelling of Iorden vnto the strong dwelling place: for I will make Israel to rest, euen I will make him to haste away from her, and who is a chosen man that I may appoynt against her? for who is like mee? and who will appoint me the time? and who is the shepheard that will stande before me?
Voici, tel qu'un lion il s'avancera des [bois], ornement du Jourdain, contre le pacage toujours vert; car soudain je vais t'en chasser, et y préposer celui que je choisirai. Car qui est égal à moi? qui m'assignera? et quel est le berger qui me résisterait?
20 Therefore heare the counsell of the Lord that hee hath deuised against Edom, and his purpose that hee hath conceiued against the inhabitants of Teman: surely the least of the flocke shall drawe them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them.
Aussi, entendez le décret décrété par l'Éternel contre Édom, et les pensées qu'il médite contre les habitants de Théman! En vérité, ils les traîneront comme de faibles agneaux;
21 The earth is mooued at the noyse of their fall: the crie of their voice is heard in the red Sea.
en vérité, il ravagera leur pâturage. Au bruit de leur chute la terre tremble, et leurs cris, jusqu'à la Mer des algues on les entend retentir.
22 Behold, he shall come vp, and flie as the Egle, and spreade his wings ouer Bozrah, and at that day shall the heart of the strong men of Edome be as the heart of a woman in trauaile.
Voici, tel qu'un aigle, il s'avance, il vole et déploie ses ailes sur Botsra, et le cœur des héros d'Édom en ce jour sera comme le cœur de la femme en travail.
23 Vnto Damascus he sayeth, Hamath is confounded and Arpad, for they haue heard euill tidings, and they are faint hearted as one on the fearefull sea that can not rest.
Contre Damas. Hamath et Arpad sont dans la confusion; car elles ont reçu une nouvelle funeste; elles tremblent; près de la mer règne l'angoisse, il ne peut y avoir de repos.
24 Damascus is discouraged, and turneth her selfe to flight and feare hath seased her: anguish and sorowes haue taken her as a woman in trauaile.
Damas est défaillante; elle se retourne pour fuir, et l'effroi la saisit; l'angoisse et les douleurs s'emparent d'elle, comme de la femme en travail.
25 How is the glorious citie not reserued, the citie of my ioy?
« Dans quel abandonnement n'est-elle pas, la cité glorieuse, la ville de mes délices! »
26 Therefore her yong men shall fall in her streetes, and all her men of warre shall be cut off in that day, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
Aussi, ses jeunes hommes tomberont dans ses rues, et tous ses guerriers périront en ce jour, dit l'Éternel des armées.
27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, which shall cosume the palaces of Benhadad.
Et j'allumerai un feu sur le mur de Damas, et il dévorera les palais de Benhadad.
28 Vnto Kedar, and to the kingdomes of Hazor, which Nebuchad-nezzar, king of Babel shall smite, thus sayeth the Lord, Arise, and goe vp vnto Kedar, and destroy the men of the East.
Contre Cédar et les royaumes de Hatsor, que défit Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel. Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Debout! avancez-vous contre Cédar, et détruisez les enfants de l'Orient.
29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: yea, they shall take to themselues their curtaines and all their vessels, and their camels, and they shall crie vnto them, Feare is on euery side.
Que leurs tentes et leurs troupeaux soient pris! Que leurs pavillons, et tous leurs meubles, et leurs chameaux leur soient enlevés, et qu'on leur crie: Terreur de toute part!
30 Flee, get you farre off (they haue consulted to dwell) O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the Lord: for Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel hath taken counsell against you, and hath deuised a purpose against you.
Partez, fuyez en hâte, cachez-vous dans les fonds, habitants de Hatsor! dit l'Éternel. Car Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel, a rendu contre vous un décret, et il médite contre vous une pensée.
31 Arise, and get you vp vnto the welthy nation that dwelleth without care, saith the Lord, which haue neither gates nor barres, but dwel alone.
Debout! avancez-vous contre un peuple tranquille, qui habite en sécurité, dit l'Éternel; il n'a ni portes, ni verrous; il habite solitaire.
32 And their camels shall be a bootie, and the multitude of their cattel a spoile, and I will scatter them into all windes, and to the vtmost corners, and I will bring their destruction from al the sides thereof, sayeth the Lord.
Et ses chameaux seront un pillage, et la multitude de ses troupeaux, une proie; et je les disperserai à tous les vents, ceux qui se rasent les tempes; et je ferai de toute part fondre sur eux la ruine, dit l'Éternel.
33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and desolation for euer: there shall no man dwell there, nor the sonnes of men remaine in it.
Et Hatsor sera le gîte des chacals, une solitude éternelle, personne n'y fixera son séjour, et aucun homme sa demeure.
34 The woordes of the Lord that came to Ieremiah the Prophet, concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reigne of Zedekiah King of Iudah, saying,
La parole de l'Éternel qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, contre Elam, au commencement du règne de Sédécias, roi de Juda, en ces mots:
35 Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will breake the bowe of Elam, euen the chiefe of their strength.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Voici, je vais briser l'arc d'Élam, source de sa force,
36 And vpon Elam I will bring the foure windes from the foure quarters of heauen, and will scatter them towardes all these windes, and there shall bee no nation, whither the fugitiues of Elam shall not come.
et amener sur Élam quatre vents des quatre extrémités du ciel, et les faire disperser par tous ces vents, et il n'y aura point de peuple où ne se rendent les fugitifs d'Élam.
37 For I will cause Elam to be afraied before their enemies, and before them that seeke their liues, and will bring vpon them a plague, euen the indignation of my wrath, saieth the Lord, and I wil sende the sworde after them till I haue consumed them.
Et j'intimiderai Élam devant ses ennemis et ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, et j'amènerai sur eux une calamité, le feu de ma colère, dit l'Éternel, et j'enverrai après eux l'épée, jusqu'à ce que je les aie exterminés.
38 And I wil set my throne in Elam, and I wil destroy both the King and the princes from thence, saith the Lord:
Et je placerai mon trône en Élam, et j'y détruirai rois et princes, dit l'Éternel.
39 but in the latter daies I wil bring againe the captiuitie of Elam, sayeth the Lord.
Mais dans la suite des temps, je ramènerai les captifs d'Élam, dit l'Éternel.
