Jeremiah 41
1 But in the seuenth moneth came Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, the sonne of Elishama of the seede royall, and the princes of the King, and tenne men with him, vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam to Mizpah, and there they did eate bread together in Mizpah.
En el séptimo mes llegó Ismael, hijo de Natanías, hijo de Elisamá, que era de estirpe real, con algunos magnates del rey y diez hombres, a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, a Masfá; y comieron juntos allí en Masfá.
2 Then arose Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah with these tenne men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan with the sword, and slewe him, whom the King of Babel had made gouernour ouer the lande.
Y se levantó Ismael, hijo de Natanías, y los diez hombres que con él estaban, e hirieron a espada a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, dando así muerte al que el rey de Babilonia había constituido gobernador del país.
3 Ishmael also slewe all the Iewes that were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and all the Caldeans that were found there, and the men of warre.
Ismael mató también a todos los judíos que estaban allí con Godolías en Masfá, y a todos los caldeos, hombres de guerra, que allí se hallaban.
4 Now the second day that he had slaine Gedaliah, and no man knewe it,
Al segundo día después del asesinato de Godolías, cuando aún no lo sabía nadie,
5 There came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, euen fourescore men, hauing their beardes shauen, and their clothes rent and cut, with offerings and incense in their hands to offer in the house of the Lord.
vinieron ochenta hombres de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria, con la barba raída, rasgados los vestidos, y el cuerpo cubierto de incisiones, con ofrendas e incienso para ofrecerlos en la Casa de Yahvé.
6 And Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meete them, weeping as he went: and when he met them, he said vnto them, Come to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam.
Ismael, hijo de Natanías, les salió al encuentro desde Masfá, llorando mientras iba; y cuando los encontró, les dijo: “Venid a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam.”
7 And when they came into the middes of the citie, Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah slewe them, and cast them into the middes of the pit, he and the men that were with him.
Pero apenas habían llegado al centro de la ciudad cuando Ismael, hijo de Natanías, con los hombres que tenía consigo, los mató (y los arrojó) en la cisterna.
8 But tenne men were founde among them, that saide vnto Ishmael, Slay vs not: for we haue treasures in the fielde, of wheate, and of barley, and of oyle, and of honie: so he stayed, and slew them not among their brethren.
Entre ellos se hallaron diez hombres que dijeron a Ismael: “No nos mates, porque tenemos escondidas en el campo provisiones de trigo, cebada, aceite y miel. A esos los dejó en paz, y no los mató con sus hermanos.
9 Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast the dead bodies of the men (whom he had slayne because of Gedaliah) is it, which Asa the King had made because of Basha King of Israel, and Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slaine.
La cisterna en que Ismael arrojó todos los cadáveres de los hombres que asesinó por causa de Godolías, es la misma que el rey Asá hizo contra Baasá, rey de Israel. Ismael, hijo de Natanías, la llenó con los (cuerpos de) los asesinados.
10 Then Ishmael caryed away captiue all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, euen the Kings daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the chiefe steward had committed to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, and Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah caried them away captiue, and departed to goe ouer to the Ammonites.
Después Ismael llevó cautivo a todo el resto del pueblo que había en Masfá, con las hijas del rey y a todo el pueblo que quedaba en Masfá, a saber, a todos cuantos Nabuzardán, capitán de la guardia, había encomendado a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam. Ismael, hijo de Natanías, se los llevó cautivos y se puso en camino para pasarse a los hijos de Ammón.
11 But when Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste that were with him, heard of all the euill that Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah had done,
Cuando Johanán, hijo de Caree, y todos los capitanes de las tropas que le acompañaban, supieron todo el mal que había hecho Ismael, hijo de Natanías,
12 Then they all tooke their men, and went to fight with Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and founde him by ye great waters that are in Gibeon.
tomaron consigo toda la gente y se pusieron en marcha para luchar contra Ismael, hijo de Natanías, y lo encontraron junto a la grande piscina de Gabaón.
13 Nowe when all the people whom Ishmael caryed away captiue, sawe Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were with him, they were glad.
Entonces, cuando todo el pueblo que estaba con Ismael vio a Johanán, hijo de Caree y a todos los capitanes de las tropas que le acompañaban, se llenó de alegría,
14 So all the people, that Ishmael had caryed away captiue from Mizpah, returned and came againe, and went vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah.
y todo el pueblo que Ismael llevaba cautivo de Masfá, dio la vuelta, y regresando se pasó a Johanán, hijo de Caree.
15 But Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, escaped from Iohanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
Pero Ismael, hijo de Natanías, escapó con ocho hombres, delante de Johanán, y se pasó a los hijos de Ammón.
16 Then tooke Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste that were with him, all the remnant of the people, whom Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah had caried away captiue from Mizpah, (after that he had slaine Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam) euen the strong men of warre, and the women, and the children, and the eunuches, whom hee had brought againe from Gibeon:
Tomaron, pues, Johanán hijo de Caree, y todos los capitanes de las tropas que le acompañaban, a todo el resto del pueblo que habían rescatado de Ismael, hijo de Natanías, —eran los (que este se había llevado) de Masfá, después de asesinar a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam— varones, hombres de guerra, mujeres, niños y eunucos, que había hecho volver de Gabaón;
17 And they departed and dwelt in Geruth Chimham, which is by Beth-lehem, to goe and to enter into Egypt,
y se pusieron en marcha e hicieron alto en Gerut Camaam, cerca de Belén, para continuar la marcha y entrar en Egipto,
18 Because of the Caldeans: for they feared them, because Ishmael ye sonne of Nethaniah had slaine Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, whom the King of Babel made gouernour in the land.
huyendo de los caldeos; pues los temían, por cuanto Ismael, hijo de Natanías, había asesinado a Godolías hijo de Ahicam, a quien el rey de Babilonia había nombrado gobernador del país.
