Jeremiah 41
1 But in the seuenth moneth came Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, the sonne of Elishama of the seede royall, and the princes of the King, and tenne men with him, vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam to Mizpah, and there they did eate bread together in Mizpah.
Et il arriva au septième mois que Ismaël, fils de Néthania, fils d'Élisama, de la famille royale, et l'un des Grands du roi, ayant dix hommes avec lui, vint auprès de Gédalia, fils d'Achikam, à Mitspa, et là ils mangèrent ensemble à Mitspa.
2 Then arose Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah with these tenne men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan with the sword, and slewe him, whom the King of Babel had made gouernour ouer the lande.
Alors Ismaël, fils de Néthania, se leva avec les dix hommes qui l'accompagnaient, et ils frappèrent Gédalia, fils d'Achikam, fils de Schaphan, avec l'épée et le tuèrent, lui que le roi de Babel avait préposé sur le pays;
3 Ishmael also slewe all the Iewes that were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and all the Caldeans that were found there, and the men of warre.
et Ismaël frappa aussi tous les Juifs qui étaient avec Gédalia à Mitspa, et les Chaldéens, hommes de guerre, qui s'y trouvaient.
4 Now the second day that he had slaine Gedaliah, and no man knewe it,
Et deux jours après le meurtre de Gédalia, tandis que chacun l'ignorait,
5 There came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, euen fourescore men, hauing their beardes shauen, and their clothes rent and cut, with offerings and incense in their hands to offer in the house of the Lord.
il vint des hommes de Sichem, de Silo et de Samarie, au nombre de quatre-vingts, ayant la barbe coupée, et les habits déchirés, et des incisions sur le corps, et des offrandes, et de l'encens en leurs mains, pour les porter à la maison de l'Éternel.
6 And Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meete them, weeping as he went: and when he met them, he said vnto them, Come to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam.
Alors Ismaël, fils de Néthania, sortit de Mitspa à leur rencontre; et en marchant il pleurait; et les ayant atteints il leur dit: Venez auprès de Gédalia, fils d'Achikam!…
7 And when they came into the middes of the citie, Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah slewe them, and cast them into the middes of the pit, he and the men that were with him.
Et quand ils furent parvenus au milieu de la ville, Ismaël, fils de Néthania, les massacra, et les jeta dans une fosse, aidé des hommes qui l'accompagnaient.
8 But tenne men were founde among them, that saide vnto Ishmael, Slay vs not: for we haue treasures in the fielde, of wheate, and of barley, and of oyle, and of honie: so he stayed, and slew them not among their brethren.
Cependant parmi eux il se trouva dix hommes qui dirent à Ismaël. Ne nous fais pas mourir, car nous avons du blé, de l'orge, de l'huile et du miel enfouis sous terre dans les champs. Alors il les laissa, et ne les fit point mourir avec leurs frères.
9 Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast the dead bodies of the men (whom he had slayne because of Gedaliah) is it, which Asa the King had made because of Basha King of Israel, and Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slaine.
Or la fosse où Ismaël avait jeté tous les cadavres des hommes qu'il avait tués en même temps que Gédalia, était celle qu'avait faite le roi Asa en vue de Baësa, roi d'Israël: c'est celle-là qu'Ismaël, fils de Néthania, remplit de cadavres.
10 Then Ishmael caryed away captiue all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, euen the Kings daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the chiefe steward had committed to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, and Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah caried them away captiue, and departed to goe ouer to the Ammonites.
Et Ismaël emmena tout le reste du peuple de Mitspa, les filles du roi et tout le peuple resté à Mitspa, que Nébuzaradan, chef des satellites, avait commis à Gédalia, fils d'Achikam, Ismaël, fils de Néthania, les emmena captifs, et il se mit en marche pour passer chez les Ammonites.
11 But when Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste that were with him, heard of all the euill that Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah had done,
Cependant Jochanan, fils de Karéah, et tous les chefs de l'armée qui étaient avec lui, à l'ouïe de tous les crimes qu'avait commis Ismaël, fils de Néthania,
12 Then they all tooke their men, and went to fight with Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and founde him by ye great waters that are in Gibeon.
prirent tous leurs hommes, et se mirent en marche pour attaquer Ismaël, fils de Néthania, et ils l'atteignirent aux grandes eaux de Gabaon.
13 Nowe when all the people whom Ishmael caryed away captiue, sawe Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were with him, they were glad.
Et quand tout le peuple qui était avec Ismaël, aperçut Jochanan, fils de Karéah, et tous les chefs de l'armée avec lui, ils se réjouirent;
14 So all the people, that Ishmael had caryed away captiue from Mizpah, returned and came againe, and went vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah.
et tout le peuple qu'Ismaël avait emmené de Mitspa, fit volte-face, et revint, et joignit Jochanan, fils de Karéah;
15 But Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, escaped from Iohanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
mais Ismaël, fils de Néthania, échappa avec huit hommes à Jochanan, et se rendit chez les Ammonites.
16 Then tooke Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste that were with him, all the remnant of the people, whom Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah had caried away captiue from Mizpah, (after that he had slaine Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam) euen the strong men of warre, and the women, and the children, and the eunuches, whom hee had brought againe from Gibeon:
Alors Jochanan, fils de Karéah, et tous les chefs de l'armée qui étaient avec lui prirent tout le reste du peuple qu'il avait recouvré sur Ismaël, fils de Néthania, depuis Mitspa, après que celui-ci eut tué Gédalia, fils d'Achikam, hommes et gens de guerre, et femmes, et enfants, et eunuques, qu'il ramena de Gabaon;
17 And they departed and dwelt in Geruth Chimham, which is by Beth-lehem, to goe and to enter into Egypt,
et ils se mirent en marche, et prirent leur étape à l'hôtellerie de Chimham près de Bethléhem, afin d'aller en Egypte
18 Because of the Caldeans: for they feared them, because Ishmael ye sonne of Nethaniah had slaine Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, whom the King of Babel made gouernour in the land.
pour fuir les Chaldéens; car ils les redoutaient, parce que Ismaël, fils de Néthania, avait tué Gédalia, fils d'Achikam, que le roi de Babel avait préposé sur le pays.
