Jeremiah 40

1 The worde which came to Ieremiah from the Lord after that Nebuzar-adan the chiefe stewarde had let him goe from Ramath, when hee had taken him being bound in chaines among all that were caried away captiue of Ierusalem and Iudah, which were caried away captiue vnto Babel.

He aquí la palabra que Jeremías recibió de Yahvé, después que Nabuzardán, capitán de la guardia, lo había dejado ir de Ramá. Cuando lo hizo venir, estaba aún atado con cadenas en medio de todos los cautivos de Jerusalén y de Judá que iban deportados a Babilonia.

2 And the chiefe stewarde tooke Ieremiah, and said vnto him, The Lord thy God hath pronounced this plague vpon this place.

El capitán de la guardia llamó a Jeremías y le dijo: “Yahvé tu Dios había predicho estos males contra este lugar;

3 Nowe the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed his voyce, therefore this thing is come vpon you.

y Yahvé los ha traído y cumplido como lo había dicho; porque pecasteis contra Yahvé, y no obedecisteis su voz, por eso os ha sucedido esto.

4 And nowe beholde, I loose thee this day from the chaines which were on thine handes, if it please thee to come with me into Babel, come, and I will looke well vnto thee: but if it please thee not to come with mee into Babel, tarie still: beholde, all the lande is before thee: whither it seemeth good, and conuenient for thee to goe, thither goe.

Ahora, pues, mira que hoy te quito las cadenas que están sobre tus manos. Si te parece bien ir conmigo a Babilonia, ven y yo te cuidaré, pero si no quieres ir conmigo a Babilonia, no vengas. Mira que todo el país está delante de ti; podrás irte a cualquier lugar que te parezca bueno y conveniente.”

5 For yet he was not returned: therefore he said, Returne to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan, whom the King of Babel hath made gouernour ouer all the cities of Iudah, and dwell with him among the people, or goe wheresoeuer it pleaseth thee to goe. So the chiefe stewarde gaue him vitailes and a rewarde, and let him goe.

(Jeremías) tardaba aún en volver, por lo cual (le dijo); “Vete a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a quien el rey de Babilonia ha constituido gobernador de las ciudades de Judá. Habita con él en medio del pueblo, o vete a donde mejor te parezca.” El capitán de la guardia le dio también provisiones y regalos y le despidió.

6 Then went Ieremiah vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt there with him among the people that were left in the lande.

Se fue Jeremías a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, a Masfá, y habitó allí, en medio del pueblo que había quedado en el país.

7 Nowe when all the captaines of the hoste, which were in the fieldes, euen they and their men heard, that the King of Babel had made Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam gouernour in the land, and that he had committed vnto him, men, and women, and children, and of the poore of the lande, that were not caried away captiue to Babel,

Cuando a todos los capitanes de las tropas desparramadas por el campo, a ellos y a sus gentes, llegó la noticia de que el rey de Babilonia había hecho gobernador del país a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, y que le había encomendado los hombres y las mujeres y los niños, y aquellos pobres del país que no habían sido deportados a Babilonia;

8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, euen Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and Iohanan, and Ionathan the sonnes of Kareah, and Seraiah the sonne of Tanehumeth, and the sonnes of Ephai, the Netophathite, and Iezaniah the sonne of Maachathi, they and their men.

vinieron a Godolías, a Masfá, (estos hombres): Ismael, hijo de Natanías, Johanán y Jonatán, hijos de Caree, Seraías, hijo de Tanhumet, los hijos de Efai netofatita, y Jezanías, hijo del Macaatita, ellos y sus gentes.

9 And Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan sware vnto them, and to their men, saying, Feare not to serue the Caldeans: dwell in the lande, and serue the King of Babel, and it shall be well with you.

Y Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, les juró a ellos y a sus gentes diciendo: “No temáis servir a los caldeos; permaneced en el país y servid al rey de Babilonia, y os irá bien.

10 As for me, Beholde, I will dwell at Mizpah to serue the Caldeans, which will come vnto vs: but you, gather you wine, and sommer fruites, and oyle, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities, that ye haue taken.

He aquí que yo me quedo en Masfá, para estar a disposición de los caldeos que lleguen a nosotros; vosotros, en cambio, recoged la vendimia, la mies y el aceite, y metedlos en vuestras tinajas; y habitad en las ciudades que habéis ocupado.”

11 Likewise when all the Iewes that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the King of Babel had left a remnant of Iudah, and that he had set ouer them Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan,

También todos los judíos que se encontraban en Moab, entre los hijos de Ammón y en Edom, y los desparramados en todos los países, supieron que el rey de Babilonia, había dejado un resto para Judá y que les había puesto por gobernador a Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán.

12 Euen all the Iewes returned out of all places where they were driuen, and came to the land of Iudah to Gedaliah vnto Mizpah, and gathered wine and sommer fruites, very much.

Entonces todos aquellos judíos, volvieron de todos los lugares adonde habían sido desplazados y vinieron al país de Judá, a Godolías, a Masfá, y recolectaron vino y frutos en abundancia.

13 Moreouer Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were in the fieldes, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

Johanán, hijo de Caree, y todos los capitanes de las tropas dispersas por el campo, vinieron a Godolías, a Masfá,

14 And said vnto him, Knowest thou not that Baalis the King of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam beleeued them not.

y le dijeron: “¿No sabes acaso que Baalís, rey de los hijos de Ammón, ha enviado a Ismael, hijo de Natanías, para quitarte la vida?” Pero Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, no les dio crédito.

15 Then Iohanan the sonne of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me goe, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he kill thee, that all the Iewes, which are gathered vnto thee, shoulde be scattered, and the remnant in Iudah perish?

Entonces Johanán, hijo de Caree, dijo secretamente a Godolías en Masfá: “Yo iré y mataré a Ismael, hijo de Natanías, sin que nadie lo sepa. ¿Por qué ha de matarte él a ti, y han de dispersarse todos los judíos que se han congregado en torno tuyo? Sería la ruina del resto de Judá.”

16 But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam said vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, Thou shalt not doe this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

Mas Godolías, hijo de Ahicam, respondió a Johanán, hijo de Caree: “No hagas tal cosa; porque lo que dices de Ismael es falso.”
