Jeremiah 40
1 The worde which came to Ieremiah from the Lord after that Nebuzar-adan the chiefe stewarde had let him goe from Ramath, when hee had taken him being bound in chaines among all that were caried away captiue of Ierusalem and Iudah, which were caried away captiue vnto Babel.
Questa parola fu rivolta a Geremia dal Signore, dopo che Nabuzaradàn, capo delle guardie, lo aveva rimandato libero da Rama, avendolo preso mentre era legato con catene in mezzo a tutti i deportati di Gerusalemme e di Giuda, i quali venivano condotti in esilio a Babilonia.
2 And the chiefe stewarde tooke Ieremiah, and said vnto him, The Lord thy God hath pronounced this plague vpon this place.
Il capo delle guardie prese Geremia e gli disse: «Il Signore tuo Dio ha predetto questa sventura per questo luogo;
3 Nowe the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed his voyce, therefore this thing is come vpon you.
il Signore l'ha mandata, compiendo quanto aveva minacciato, perché voi avete peccato contro il Signore e non avete ascoltato la sua voce; perciò vi è capitata una cosa simile.
4 And nowe beholde, I loose thee this day from the chaines which were on thine handes, if it please thee to come with me into Babel, come, and I will looke well vnto thee: but if it please thee not to come with mee into Babel, tarie still: beholde, all the lande is before thee: whither it seemeth good, and conuenient for thee to goe, thither goe.
Ora ecco, ti sciolgo queste catene dalle mani. Se preferisci venire con me a Babilonia, vieni; io veglierò su di te. Se invece preferisci non venire con me a Babilonia, rimani. Vedi, tutta la regione sta davanti a te; và pure dove ti piace e ti è comodo andare.
5 For yet he was not returned: therefore he said, Returne to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan, whom the King of Babel hath made gouernour ouer all the cities of Iudah, and dwell with him among the people, or goe wheresoeuer it pleaseth thee to goe. So the chiefe stewarde gaue him vitailes and a rewarde, and let him goe.
Torna pure presso Godolia figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn, che il re di Babilonia ha messo a capo delle città di Giuda. Rimani con lui in mezzo al popolo oppure và dove ti piace andare». Il capo delle guardie gli diede provviste di cibo e un regalo e lo licenziò.
6 Then went Ieremiah vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt there with him among the people that were left in the lande.
Allora Geremia andò in Mizpà da Godolia figlio di Achikàm, e si stabilì con lui in mezzo al popolo che era rimasto nel paese.
7 Nowe when all the captaines of the hoste, which were in the fieldes, euen they and their men heard, that the King of Babel had made Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam gouernour in the land, and that he had committed vnto him, men, and women, and children, and of the poore of the lande, that were not caried away captiue to Babel,
Tutti i capi dell'esercito, che si erano dispersi per la regione con i loro uomini, vennero a sapere che il re di Babilonia aveva messo a capo del paese Godolia figlio di Achikàm, e gli aveva affidato gli uomini, le donne, i bambini e i poveri del paese che non erano stati deportati a Babilonia.
8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, euen Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and Iohanan, and Ionathan the sonnes of Kareah, and Seraiah the sonne of Tanehumeth, and the sonnes of Ephai, the Netophathite, and Iezaniah the sonne of Maachathi, they and their men.
Si recarono allora da Godolia in Mizpà Ismaele figlio di Natania, Giovanni figlio di Kàreca, Seraià figlio di Tancùmet, i figli di Ofi di Netofa e Iezanià figlio del Maacatita con i loro uomini.
9 And Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan sware vnto them, and to their men, saying, Feare not to serue the Caldeans: dwell in the lande, and serue the King of Babel, and it shall be well with you.
Godolia figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn, giurò a loro e ai loro uomini: «Non temete i funzionari caldei; rimanete nel paese e state soggetti al re di Babilonia e vi troverete bene.
10 As for me, Beholde, I will dwell at Mizpah to serue the Caldeans, which will come vnto vs: but you, gather you wine, and sommer fruites, and oyle, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities, that ye haue taken.
Quanto a me, ecco, io mi stabilisco in Mizpà come vostro rappresentante di fronte ai Caldei che verranno da noi; ma voi fate pure la raccolta del vino, delle frutta e dell'olio, riponete tutto nei vostri magazzini e dimorate nelle città da voi occupate».
11 Likewise when all the Iewes that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the King of Babel had left a remnant of Iudah, and that he had set ouer them Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan,
Anche tutti i Giudei che si trovavano in Moab, tra gli Ammoniti, in Edom e in tutte le altre regioni, seppero che il re di Babilonia aveva lasciato una parte della popolazione in Giuda e aveva messo a capo di essa Godolia figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn.
12 Euen all the Iewes returned out of all places where they were driuen, and came to the land of Iudah to Gedaliah vnto Mizpah, and gathered wine and sommer fruites, very much.
Tutti questi Giudei ritornarono da tutti i luoghi nei quali si erano dispersi e vennero nel paese di Giuda presso Godolia a Mizpà. Raccolsero vino e frutta in grande abbondanza.
13 Moreouer Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were in the fieldes, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,
Ora Giovanni figlio di Kàreca e tutti i capi delle bande armate che si erano dispersi per la regione, si recarono da Godolia in Mizpà
14 And said vnto him, Knowest thou not that Baalis the King of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam beleeued them not.
e gli dissero: «Non sai che Baalìs re degli Ammoniti ha mandato Ismaele figlio di Natania per toglierti la vita?». Ma Godolia figlio di Achikàm non credette loro.
15 Then Iohanan the sonne of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me goe, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he kill thee, that all the Iewes, which are gathered vnto thee, shoulde be scattered, and the remnant in Iudah perish?
Allora Giovanni figlio di Kàreca parlò segretamente con Godolia in Mizpà: «Io andrò a colpire Ismaele figlio di Natania senza che alcuno lo sappia. Perché egli dovrebbe toglierti la vita, così che vadano dispersi tutti i Giudei che si sono raccolti intorno a te e perisca tutto il resto di Giuda?».
16 But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam said vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, Thou shalt not doe this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
Ma Godolia figlio di Achikàm rispose a Giovanni figlio di Kàreca: «Non commettere una cosa simile, perché è una menzogna quanto tu dici di Ismaele».
