Jeremiah 40

1 The worde which came to Ieremiah from the Lord after that Nebuzar-adan the chiefe stewarde had let him goe from Ramath, when hee had taken him being bound in chaines among all that were caried away captiue of Ierusalem and Iudah, which were caried away captiue vnto Babel.

Dies ist das Wort, so vom HERRN geschah zu Jeremia, da ihn Nebusar-Adan, der Hauptmann, losließ zu Rama; denn er war auch mit Ketten gebunden unter allen denen, die zu Jerusalem und in Juda gefangen waren, daß man sie gen Babel wegführen sollte.

2 And the chiefe stewarde tooke Ieremiah, and said vnto him, The Lord thy God hath pronounced this plague vpon this place.

Da nun der Hauptmann Jeremia zu sich hatte lassen holen, sprach er zu ihm: Der HERR, dein Gott, hat dies Unglück über diese Stätte geredet

3 Nowe the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed his voyce, therefore this thing is come vpon you.

und hat es auch kommen lassen und getan, wie er geredet hat; denn ihr habt gesündiget wider den HERRN und seiner Stimme nicht gehorchet; darum ist euch solches widerfahren.

4 And nowe beholde, I loose thee this day from the chaines which were on thine handes, if it please thee to come with me into Babel, come, and I will looke well vnto thee: but if it please thee not to come with mee into Babel, tarie still: beholde, all the lande is before thee: whither it seemeth good, and conuenient for thee to goe, thither goe.

Nun siehe, ich habe dich heute losgemacht von den Ketten, damit deine Hände gebunden waren. Gefällt dir's, mit mir gen Babel zu ziehen, so komm, du sollst mir befohlen sein; gefällt dir's aber nicht, mit mir gen Babel zu ziehen, so laß es anstehen. Siehe, da hast du das ganze Land vor dir; wo dich's gut dünkt und dir gefällt, da zeuch hin.

5 For yet he was not returned: therefore he said, Returne to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan, whom the King of Babel hath made gouernour ouer all the cities of Iudah, and dwell with him among the people, or goe wheresoeuer it pleaseth thee to goe. So the chiefe stewarde gaue him vitailes and a rewarde, and let him goe.

Denn weiter hinaus wird kein Wiederkehren sein. Darum magst du kehren zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, des Sohns Saphans, welchen der König zu Babel gesetzt hat über die Städte in Juda, und bei demselbigen unter dem Volk bleiben; oder gehe, wohin dir's wohlgefällt. Und der Hauptmann gab ihm Zehrung und Geschenke und ließ ihn gehen.

6 Then went Ieremiah vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt there with him among the people that were left in the lande.

Also kam Jeremia zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, gen Mizpa und blieb bei ihm unter dem Volk, das im Lande noch übrig war.

7 Nowe when all the captaines of the hoste, which were in the fieldes, euen they and their men heard, that the King of Babel had made Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam gouernour in the land, and that he had committed vnto him, men, and women, and children, and of the poore of the lande, that were not caried away captiue to Babel,

Da nun die Hauptleute, so auf dem Felde sich enthielten, samt ihren Leuten erfuhren, daß der König zu Babel hatte Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, über das Land gesetzt und beide, über Männer und Weiber, Kinder und die Geringen im Lande, welche nicht gen Babel geführet waren,

8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, euen Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and Iohanan, and Ionathan the sonnes of Kareah, and Seraiah the sonne of Tanehumeth, and the sonnes of Ephai, the Netophathite, and Iezaniah the sonne of Maachathi, they and their men.

kamen sie zu Gedalja gen Mizpa, nämlich Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, Johanan und Jonathan, die Söhne Kareahs, und Seraja, der Sohn Thanhumeths, und die Söhne Ephai von Netophath und Jesanja, der Sohn Maachathis, samt ihren Männern.

9 And Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan sware vnto them, and to their men, saying, Feare not to serue the Caldeans: dwell in the lande, and serue the King of Babel, and it shall be well with you.

Und Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, des Sohns Saphans, tat ihnen und ihren Männern einen Eid und sprach: Fürchtet euch nicht, daß ihr den Chaldäern untertan sein sollet; bleibet im Lande und seid dem Könige zu Babel untertan, so wird's euch wohlgehen.

10 As for me, Beholde, I will dwell at Mizpah to serue the Caldeans, which will come vnto vs: but you, gather you wine, and sommer fruites, and oyle, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities, that ye haue taken.

Siehe, ich wohne hie zu Mizpa, daß ich den Chaldäern diene, die zu uns kommen. Darum so sammelt ein den Wein und Feigen und Öl und leget es in eure Gefäße und wohnet in euren Städten, die ihr bekommen habt.

11 Likewise when all the Iewes that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the King of Babel had left a remnant of Iudah, and that he had set ouer them Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan,

Auch alle Juden, so im Lande Moab und der Kinder Ammon und in Edom und in allen Ländern waren, da sie höreten, daß der König zu Babel hätte lassen etliche in Juda überbleiben und über sie gesetzt Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohns Saphans,

12 Euen all the Iewes returned out of all places where they were driuen, and came to the land of Iudah to Gedaliah vnto Mizpah, and gathered wine and sommer fruites, very much.

kamen sie alle wieder von allen Orten, dahin sie verstoßen waren, ins Land Juda zu Gedalja gen Mizpa und sammelten ein sehr viel Weins und Sommerfrüchte.

13 Moreouer Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were in the fieldes, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

Aber Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, samt all den Hauptleuten, so auf dem Felde sich enthalten hatten, kamen zu Gedalja gen Mizpa

14 And said vnto him, Knowest thou not that Baalis the King of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam beleeued them not.

und sprachen zu ihm: Weißt du auch, daß Baalis, der König der Kinder Ammon, gesandt hat Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, daß er dich soll erschlagen? Das wollte ihnen aber Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, nicht glauben.

15 Then Iohanan the sonne of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me goe, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he kill thee, that all the Iewes, which are gathered vnto thee, shoulde be scattered, and the remnant in Iudah perish?

Da sprach Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, zu Gedalja heimlich zu Mizpa: Lieber, ich will hingehen und Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, schlagen, daß es niemand erfahren soll. Warum soll er dich erschlagen, daß alle Juden, so zu dir versammelt sind, zerstreuet werden und die noch aus Juda überblieben sind, umkommen?

16 But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam said vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, Thou shalt not doe this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

Aber Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, sprach zu Johanan, dem Sohn Kareahs: Du sollst das nicht tun; es ist nicht wahr, das du von Ismael sagest.
