Jeremiah 4
1 O Israel, if thou returne, returne vnto me, saith the Lord: and if thou put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remoue.
»Wenn du umkehrst, Israel« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, »sollst du zu mir zurückkehren dürfen; und wenn du deine greulichen Götzen mir aus den Augen schaffst, sollst du nicht verstoßen werden;
2 And thou shalt sweare, The Lord liueth in trueth, in iudgement, and in righteousnesse, and the nations shall be blessed in him, and shall glorie in him.
und wenn du ›So wahr der HERR lebt!‹ in Wahrheit, in Treue und Aufrichtigkeit schwörst, sollen die Heidenvölker mit deinem Namen sich segnen und dein Glück sich wünschen!«
3 For thus saith the Lord to the men of Iudah, and to Ierusalem,
Denn so hat der HERR zu den Männern von Juda und zu den Bewohnern Jerusalems gesprochen: »Brecht euch einen Neubruch und säet nicht in die Dornen hinein!
4 Breake vp your fallowe ground, and sowe not among the thornes: be circumcised to the Lord, and take away the foreskinnes of your hearts, ye men of Iudah, and inhabitants of Ierusalem, lest my wrath come foorth like fire, and burne, that none can quenche it, because of the wickednesse of your inuentions.
Beschneidet euch für den HERRN und schafft die Vorhaut eurer Herzen weg, ihr Männer von Juda und ihr Bewohner Jerusalems, damit mein Zorn nicht ausbricht wie Feuer und unauslöschlich brennt wegen der Verworfenheit eures ganzen Tuns!«
5 Declare in Iudah, and shewe forth in Ierusalem, and say, Blowe the trumpet in the lande: cry, and gather together, and say, Assemble your selues, and let vs goe into strong cities.
Verkündet es in Juda und laßt in Jerusalem die Botschaft ausrufen: »Stoßt in die Posaune im Lande umher! Ruft mit voller Kraft aus und macht bekannt: ›Schart euch zusammen und laßt uns in die festen Städte ziehen!‹
6 Set vp the standart in Zion: prepare to flee, and stay not: for I will bring a plague from the North, and a great destruction.
Pflanzt ein Banner auf nach Zion hin, flüchtet euch, ohne Halt zu machen! Denn Unheil lasse ich von Norden her kommen und gewaltige Zerschmetterung.«
7 The lyon is come vp from his denne, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is departed, and gone forth of his place to lay thy land waste, and thy cities shalbe destroyed without an inhabitant.
Heraufgestiegen ist schon der Löwe aus seinem Dickicht, und der Völkerwürger ist aufgebrochen, ist ausgezogen aus seiner Wohnstätte, um dein Land zur Wüste zu machen, daß deine Städte in Trümmer sinken, menschenleer werden!
8 Wherefore girde you with sackecloth: lament, and howle, for the fierce wrath of the Lord is not turned backe from vs.
Darum gürtet euch Sackleinen um, wehklagt und jammert: »Ach, der lodernde Zorn des HERRN hat sich nicht von uns abgewandt!«
9 And in that day, saith the Lord, the heart of the King shall perish, and the heart of the princes and the Priestes shall be astonished, and the Prophets shall wonder.
»An jenem Tage« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN – »wird dem Könige und den Fürsten der Mut entschwinden, werden die Priester ratlos sein und die Propheten fassungslos dastehen.«
10 Then saide I, Ah, Lord God, surely thou hast deceiued this people and Ierusalem, saying, Ye shall haue peace, and the sworde perceth vnto the heart.
Da sagte ich: »Ach, HERR, mein Gott! Wahrlich, arg hast du dieses Volk und Jerusalem getäuscht, als du verhießest: ›Heil soll euch widerfahren!‹, und nun ist das Schwert ihnen gedrungen bis ans Leben!« –
11 At that time shall it bee saide to this people and to Ierusalem, A dry winde in the hie places of the wildernes commeth towarde ye daughter of my people, but neither to fanne nor to clense.
In jener Zeit wird man zu diesem Volk und zu Jerusalem sagen: »Ein Glutwind von den kahlen Höhen in der Wüste kommt dahergestürmt auf die Tochter meines Volkes zu, ungeeignet zum Worfeln und ungeeignet zum Sieben des Korns,
12 A mightie winde shall come vnto me from those places, and nowe will I also giue sentence vpon them.
ein Wind zu scharf, als daß er dazu taugte, kommt, von mir bestellt: nun will ich selbst mit ihnen ins Gericht gehen!« –
13 Beholde, he shall come vp as the cloudes, and his charets shalbe as a tempest: his horses are lighter then eagles. Woe vnto vs, for wee are destroyed.
Sehet, wie Wetterwolken zieht er herauf, und wie der Sturmwind sind seine Kriegswagen, schneller als Adler seine Rosse: wehe uns, wir sind verloren! –
14 O Ierusalem, wash thine heart from wickednes, that thou maiest be saued: how long shall thy wicked thoughtes remaine within thee?
Wasche dein Herz vom Bösen rein, Jerusalem, auf daß du Rettung erlangst! Wie lange soll noch dein unheilvolles Sinnen in deinem Inneren wohnen? –
15 For a voyce declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.
Ach, horch! Eine Botschaft kommt von Dan her, eine Unglückskunde vom Gebirge Ephraim!
16 Make ye mention of the heathen, and publish in Ierusalem, Beholde, the skoutes come from a farre countrey, and crie out against the cities of Iudah.
»Verkündet es den Völkern, meldet es weiter nach Jerusalem: ›Belagerer kommen aus fernem Lande und erheben ihren Kriegsruf gegen die Städte Judas!
17 They haue compassed her about as the watchmen of the fielde, because it hath prouoked me to wrath, saith the Lord.
Wie Feldhüter stellen sie sich ringsum gegen Jerusalem auf, weil es widerspenstig gegen mich gewesen ist!‹« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN. –
18 Thy wayes and thine inuentions haue procured thee these things, such is thy wickednesse: therefore it shall be bitter, therefore it shall perce vnto thine heart.
Dein Wandel und dein ganzes Tun haben dir solches Unheil eingetragen: deiner Verworfenheit verdankst du dies, daß es so bitterweh ist, ja daß es dir bis ans Leben geht. –
19 My bely, my bely, I am pained, euen at the very heart: mine heart is troubled within me: I cannot be still: for my soule hath heard the sounde of the trumpet, and the alarme of the battell.
O meine Brust, meine Brust! Mir ist so angst! O ihr Wände meines Herzens! Mein Inneres ist mir in wildem Aufruhr: ich kann nicht schweigen! Denn Posaunenschall vernimmst du, meine Seele, das Getöse des Krieges.
20 Destruction vpon destruction is cryed, for the whole lande is wasted: suddenly are my tents destroyed, and my curtaines in a moment.
Zerstörung über Zerstörung wird gemeldet, denn verheert ist das ganze Land! Urplötzlich sind meine Hütten zerstört, in einem Augenblick meine Zelte!
21 Howe long shall I see the standert, and heare the sounde of the trumpet?
Wie lange noch soll ich Paniere sehen, Posaunenschall vernehmen? –
22 For my people is foolish, they haue not knowen me: they are foolish children, and haue none vnderstanding: they are wise to doe euill, but to doe well they haue no knowledge.
Ach, verblendet ist mein Volk: mich kennen sie nicht! Törichte Kinder sind sie und ohne Einsicht: klug sind sie zum Bösestun, aber auf das Tun des Guten verstehen sie sich nicht. –
23 I haue looked vpon the earth, and loe, it was without forme and voide: and to the heauens, and they had no light.
Ich blicke die Erde an: ach, sie ist wüst und öde! und zum Himmel empor: sein Licht ist verschwunden!
24 I behelde the mountaines: and loe, they trembled and all the hilles shooke.
Ich blicke die Berge an: ach, sie beben, und alle Hügel schwanken!
25 I behelde, and loe, there was no man, and all the birdes of the heauen were departed.
Ich blicke umher: ach, kein Mensch ist da, und alle Vögel des Himmels sind entflohen!
26 I behelde, and loe, the fruitfull place was a wildernesse, and all the cities thereof were broken downe at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce wrath.
Ich blicke umher: ach, das Fruchtgefilde (Juda) ist eine Wüste, und alle seine Städte sind zerstört: nach dem Willen des HERRN, infolge der Glut seines Zorns! –
27 For thus hath the Lord saide, The whole lande shall be desolate: yet will I not make a full ende.
Denn so hat der HERR gesprochen: »Zur Wüste soll das ganze Land werden, doch seine völlige Vernichtung will ich nicht herbeiführen.
28 Therefore shall the earth mourne, and the heauens aboue shall be darkened, because I haue pronounced it: I haue thought it, and will not repent, neither will I turne backe from it.
Darob trauert die Erde, und der Himmel droben hüllt sich in Schwarz, weil ich (das) ausgesprochen und beschlossen habe; und ich lasse es mich nicht gereuen und gehe nicht davon ab.« –
29 The whole citie shall flee, for the noyse of the horsemen and bowemen: they shall goe into thickets, and clime vp vpon the rockes: euery citie shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.
Vor dem Ruf »Reiter und Bogenschützen!« ist das ganze Stadtvolk auf der Flucht; in die Dickichte haben sie sich begeben und die Felsen erklommen: jede Ortschaft steht verlassen da, und kein Mensch ist darin wohnen geblieben.
30 And when thou shalt be destroyed, what wilt thou doe? Though thou clothest thy selfe with skarlet, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of golde, though thou paintest thy face with colours, yet shalt thou trimme thy selfe in vaine: for thy louers will abhorre thee and seeke thy life.
Du aber, vergewaltigte (Stadt), was willst du tun? Magst du dich auch in Purpur kleiden, magst du dich mit Goldgeschmeide putzen, magst du deine Augenränder mit Schminke umzeichnen: vergebens machst du dich schön! Die Liebhaber haben dich satt, trachten dir nach dem Leben!
31 For I haue heard a noyse as of a woman trauailing, or as one labouring of her first child, euen the voyce of the daughter Zion that sigheth and stretcheth out her handes: woe is me nowe: for my soule fainteth because of the murtherers.
Ach! Geschrei höre ich wie von einem Weibe in Kindesnöten, Angstrufe wie von einer Frau, die zum erstenmal Mutter wird: das Geschrei der Tochter Zion, die da aufstöhnt, ihre Hände flehend ausbreitet: »Wehe mir! Ach, erschöpft ist meine Seele, eine Beute der Mörder!«
