Jeremiah 38

1 Then Shephatiah the sonne of Mattan, and Gedaliah the sonne of Pashur, and Iucal the sonne of Shelemiah, and Pashur the sonne of Malchiah, heard the wordes that Ieremiah had spoken vnto all the people, saying,

Y oyó Safacías, hijo de Matán, y Gedelías, hijo de Fasur, y Jucal hijo de Selemías, y Fasur, hijo de Melquías, las palabras que Jeremías hablaba a todo el pueblo, diciendo:

2 Thus sayth the Lord, He that remaineth in this citie, shall dye by the sworde, by the famine and by the pestilence: but hee that goeth foorth to the Caldeans, shall liue: for he shall haue his life for a praye, and shall liue.

Así dijo Jehová: El que se quedare en esta ciudad morirá a cuchillo, a hambre, y a pestilencia: mas el que se saliere a los Caldeos vivirá, y su vida le será por despojo, y vivirá.

3 Thus sayth the Lord, This citie shall surely be giuen into the hand of the King of Babels armie, which shall take it.

Así dijo Jehová: Entregando será entregada esta ciudad en mano del ejército del rey de Babilonia, y tomarla ha.

4 Therefore the Princes sayd vnto the King, We beseech you, let this man be put to death: for thus hee weakeneth the hands of the men of warre that remaine in this citie, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such wordes vnto them: for this man seeketh not the wealth of this people, but the hurt.

Y dijeron los príncipes al rey: Muera ahora este hombre; porque de esta manera desmaya las manos de los varones de guerra, que han quedado en esta ciudad, y las manos de todo el pueblo, hablándoles tales palabras; porque este hombre no busca la paz de este pueblo, mas el mal.

5 Then Zedekiah the King sayd, Behold, he is in your hands, for ye King can denie you nothing.

Y dijo el rey Sedecías: Héle ahí: en vuestras manos está: que el rey no podrá contra vosotros nada.

6 Then tooke they Ieremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the sonne of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let downe Ieremiah with coards: and in the dungeon there was no water but myre: so Ieremiah stacke fast in the myre.

Y ellos tomaron a Jeremías, e hiciéronle echar en la mazmorra de Melquías, hijo de Amelec, que estaba en el patio de la guarda; y metieron a Jeremías con sogas. Y en la mazmorra no había agua, si no cieno; y hundióse Jeremías en el cieno.

7 Now when Ebed-melech ye blacke More one of ye Eunuches, which was in the kings house, heard that they had put Ieremiah in the dungeon (then the King sate in the gate of Beniamin)

Y oyendo Ebed-melec Etiope, hombre eunuco que estaba en casa del rey, que habían puesto a Jeremías en la mazmorra, y estando sentado el rey a la puerta de Ben-jamín,

8 And Ebed-melech went out of the Kings house, and spake to the King, saying,

Ebed-melec salió de casa del rey, y habló al rey, diciendo:

9 My lorde the King, these men haue done euill in all that they haue done to Ieremiah the Prophet, whom they haue cast into the dungeon, and he dyeth for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the citie.

Mi señor el rey, mal hicieron estos varones en todo lo que han hecho con Jeremías profeta, al cual hicieron echar en la mazmorra; porque allí se morirá de hambre; porque no hay más pan en la ciudad.

10 Then the King commanded Ebed-melech the blacke More, saying, Take from hence thirtie men with thee, and take Ieremiah the Prophet out of the dungeon before he dye.

Y mandó el rey al mismo Ebed-melec Etiope, diciendo: Toma en tu poder treinta hombres de aquí, y haz sacar a Jeremías profeta de la mazmorra antes que muera.

11 So Ebed-melech tooke the men with him and went to the house of the King vnder the treasurie, and tooke there olde rotten ragges, and olde worne cloutes, and let them downe by coards into the dungeon to Ieremiah.

Y tomó Ebed-melec en su poder hombres, y entró a la casa del rey al lugar debajo de la tesorería, y tomó de allí trapos viejos, traídos, y viejos, rotos, y echólos a Jeremías con sogas en la mazmorra.

12 And Ebed-melech the blacke More sayde vnto Ieremiah, Put now these olde rotten ragges and worne, vnder thine arme holes, betweene the coards. And Ieremiah did so.

Y dijo Ebed-melec Etiope a Jeremías: Pon ahora esos trapos viejos, traídos, y rotos, debajo de los sobacos de tus brazos debajo de las sogas. E hízolo así Jeremías.

13 So they drewe vp Ieremiah with coards and tooke him vp out of the dungeon, and Ieremiah remained in the court of the prison.

Y sacaron a Jeremías con sogas, y subiéronle de la mazmorra; y quedó Jeremías en el patio de la guarda.

14 Then Zedekiah the King sent, and tooke Ieremiah the Prophet vnto him, into the thirde entrie that is in the House of the Lord, and the King sayd vnto Ieremiah, I wil aske thee a thing: hide nothing from me.

Y envió el rey Sedecías, e hizo traer a sí a Jeremías profeta a la tercera entrada que estaba en la casa de Jehová; y dijo el rey a Jeremías: Pregúntote una palabra: no me encubras ninguna cosa.

15 Then Ieremiah sayd to Zedekiah, If I declare it vnto thee, wilt not thou slay me? and if I giue thee counsell, thou wilt not heare me.

Y Jeremías dijo a Sedecías: ¿Si te lo denunciare, matando no me matarás? y si te diere consejo, no me escucharás.

16 So the King sware secretly vnto Ieremiah, saying, As the Lord liueth that made vs these soules, I will not slay thee, nor giue thee into the hands of those men that seeke thy life.

Y juró el rey Sedecías en secreto a Jeremías, diciendo: Vive Jehová que nos hizo esta alma, que no te mataré, ni te entregaré en mano de estos varones que buscan tu alma.

17 Then sayd Ieremiah vnto Zedekiah, Thus sayth the Lord God of hostes, the God of Israel, If thou wilt goe foorth vnto the King of Babels princes, then thy soule shall liue, and this citie shall not be burnt vp with fire, and thou shalt liue, and thine house.

Y dijo Jeremías a Sedecías: Así dijo Jehová Dios de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Si saliendo salieres a los príncipes del rey de Babilonia, tu alma vivirá, y esta ciudad no será metida a fuego, y vivirás tú, y tu casa:

18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the King of Babels princes, then shall this citie be giuen into the hand of ye Caldeans, and they shall burne it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hands.

Mas si no salieres a los príncipes del rey de Babilonia, esta ciudad será entregada en mano de los Caldeos, y meterla han a fuego, y tú no escaparás de sus manos,

19 And Zedekiah the King sayde vnto Ieremiah, I am carefull for the Iewes that are fled vnto the Caldeans, least they deliuer mee into their hands, and they mocke me.

Y dijo el rey Sedecías a Jeremías: Témome a causa de los Judíos que se acostaron a los Caldeos, que no me entreguen en sus manos, y me escarnezcan.

20 But Ieremiah sayd, They shall not deliuer thee: hearken vnto the voyce of the Lord, I beseech thee, which I speake vnto thee: so shall it be well vnto thee, and thy soule shall liue.

Y dijo Jeremías: No te entregarán. Oye ahora la voz de Jehová que yo te hablo, y habrás bien, y vivirá tu alma.

21 But if thou wilt refuse to go forth, this is the worde that the Lord hath shewed me.

Y si no quisieres salir, esta es la palabra que me ha mostrado Jehová:

22 And beholde, all the women that are left in the King of Iudahs house, shalbe brought forth to the King of Babels princes: and those women shall say, Thy friends haue perswaded thee, and haue preuailed against thee: thy feete are fastened in the myre, and they are turned backe.

Y he aquí que todas las mujeres que han quedado en casa del rey de Judá, son sacadas a los príncipes del rey de Babilonia; y ellas mismas dirán: Engañáronte, y pudieron más que tú tus amigos: atollaron en el cieno tus pies, volviéronse atrás.

23 So they shall bring out all thy wiues, and thy children to the Caldeans, and thou shalt not escape out of their hands, but shalt be taken by the hand of the King of Babel: and this citie shalt thou cause to be burnt with fire.

Y a todas tus mujeres y tus hijos sacarán a los Caldeos, y tú también no escaparas de sus manos: mas por mano del rey de Babilonia serás preso, y a esta ciudad quemarás a fuego.

24 Then said Zedekiah vnto Ieremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.

Y dijo Sedecías a Jeremías: Nadie sepa estas palabras, y no morirás.

25 But if ye princes vnderstand that I haue talked with thee, and they come vnto thee, and say vnto thee, Declare vnto vs nowe, what thou hast sayde vnto the King, hide it not from vs, and we will not slay thee: also what the King sayd vnto thee,

Y si los príncipes oyeren, que yo he hablado contigo, y vinieren a ti, y te dijeren: Decláranos ahora qué hablaste con el rey: no nos lo encubras, y no te mataremos; y qué te dijo el rey:

26 Then shalt thou say vnto them, I humbly besought the King that he would not cause me to returne to Iehonathans house, to die there.

Decirles has: Supliqué al rey que no me hiciese tornar en casa de Jonatán, porque no me muriese allí.

27 Then came all the princes vnto Ieremiah and asked him. And he tolde them according to all these wordes that the King had commanded: so they left off speaking with him, for the matter was not perceiued.

Y vinieron todos los príncipes a Jeremías, y preguntáronle; y él les respondió conforme a todo lo que el rey le había mandado; y dejáronse de él, porque no fue oído el negocio.

28 So Ieremiah abode still in the court of the prison, vntill the day that Ierusalem was taken: and he was there, when Ierusalem was taken.

Y Jeremías quedó en el patio de la guarda hasta el día que fue tomada Jerusalem; y allí estaba cuando fue tomada Jerusalem.
