Jeremiah 32

1 The worde that came vnto Ieremiah from the Lord, in the tenth yere of Zedekiah king of Iudah, which was the eightenth yeere of Nebuchad-nezzar.

Voici la parole adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Eternel, dans la dixième année du règne de Sédécias, roi de Juda, qui est la dix-huitième année du règne de Nabuchodonosor,

2 For then the King of Babels hoste besieged Ierusalem: And Ieremiah the Prophet was shutte vp in the court of the prison, which was in the King of Iudahs house.

alors que l’armée du roi de Babylone faisait le siège de Jérusalem, et que Jérémie le prophète se trouvait enfermé dans la cour de la prison, qui faisait partie du palais du roi de Juda.

3 For Zedekiah King of Iudah had shut him vp, saying, Wherefore doest thou prophesie, and say, Thus saith the Lord, Beholde, I will giue this citie into the handes of the King of Babel, and he shall take it?

Sédécias, roi de Juda, l’avait incarcéré, disant: "Pourquoi prophétises-tu en ces termes: Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Je vais livrer cette ville aux mains du roi de Babylone, qui la prendra de vive force.

4 And Zedekiah the King of Iudah shall not escape out of the hande of the Caldeans, but shall surely be deliuered into the handes of the King of Babel, and shall speake with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall beholde his face,

Sédécias, roi de Juda, n’échappera pas aux mains des Chaldéens, il tombera au pouvoir du roi de Babylone, qui lui parlera de bouche à bouche et dont les yeux verront ses yeux.

5 And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babel, and there shall he be, vntil I visit him, saith ye Lord: though ye fight with the Caldeans, ye shall not prosper.

Et l’on dirigera Sédécias sur Babylone, où il demeurera jusqu’à ce que je prenne souci de lui, dit l’Eternel. En résistant par les armes aux Chaldéens, vous ne réussirez pas."

6 And Ieremiah said, The word of the Lord came vnto me, saying,

Jérémie dit donc: "La parole de l’Eternel m’a été adressée en ces termes:

7 Beholde, Hanameel, the sonne of Shallum thine vncle, shall come vnto thee and say, Bye vnto thee my fielde, that is in Anathoth: for the title by kindred appertaineth vnto thee to bye it.

Voici, Hanamel, fils de ton oncle Challoum, vient te trouver pour te dire: Fais l’acquisition de mon champ qui est à Anatot, car, ayant le droit de rachat, c’est à toi d’acquérir."

8 So Hanameel, mine vncles sonne, came to mee in the court of the prison, according to the word of the Lord, and said vnto me, Bye my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the countrey of Beniamin: for the right of the possession is thine, and the purchase belongeth vnto thee: bye it for thee. Then I knewe that this was the worde of the Lord.

En effet, Hanamel, le fils de mon oncle, vint me trouver, selon la parole de l’Eternel, dans la cour de la prison et il me dit: "Achète, je t’en prie, mon champ qui est à Anatot, sur le territoire de Benjamin, car tu possèdes le droit d’héritage et de rachat; fais donc cette acquisition." Je reconnus que telle était la volonté de Dieu.

9 And I bought the field of Hanameel, mine vncles sonne, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the siluer, euen seuen shekels, and tenne pieces of siluer.

J’Achetai donc à Hanamel, le fils de mon oncle, le champ situé à Anatot, et je lui en comptai le prix, sept sicles et dix pièces d’argent.

10 And I writ it in the booke and signed it, and tooke witnesses, and weighed him the siluer in the balances.

J’Écrivis le contrat de vente, le scellai, et assignai des témoins, puis je pesai la somme dans une balance.

11 So I tooke the booke of the possession, being sealed according to the Lawe, and custome, with the booke that was open,

Puis je pris le contrat de vente, l’acte scellé contenant la loi et les clauses, et l’acte ouvert;

12 And I gaue the booke of the possession vnto Baruch the sonne of Neriah, the sonne of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine vncles sonne, and in the presence of the witnesses, written in the booke of the possession, before al the Iewes that sate in the court of the prison.

et je remis le contrat de vente à Baruch, fils de Néria, fils de Mahséia, en présence de Hanamel, mon cousin, en présence des témoins qui avaient signé le contrat de vente, en présence de tous les Judéens qui se trouvaient dans la cour de la prison.

13 And I charged Baruch before them, saying,

Et devant eux, je donnai à Baruch les instructions suivantes:

14 Thus saith the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Take the writings, euen this booke of the possession, both that is sealed, and this booke that is open, and put them in an earthen vessell, that they may continue a long time.

"Ainsi parle l’Eternel-Cebaot, Dieu d’Israël: Prends ces écrits, le contrat de vente, l’acte scellé et l’acte ouvert, et dépose-les dans un vase d’argile, afin qu’ils se conservent de longs jours.

15 For the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel saith thus, Houses and fieldes, and vineyardes shall be possessed againe in this land.

Car, ainsi parle l’Eternel-Cebaot, Dieu d’Israël: De nouveau, on achètera, dans ce pays, des maisons, des champs et des vignes."

16 Now when I had deliuered the booke of the possession vnto Baruch, the sonne of Neriah, I prayed vnto the Lord, saying,

Après avoir remis le contrat de vente à Baruch, fils de Néria, j’adressai à l’Eternel la prière suivante:

17 Ah Lord God, beholde, thou hast made the heauen and the earth by thy great power, and by thy stretched out arme, and there is nothing hard vnto thee.

"O Seigneur-Elohim! c’est toi qui as fait le ciel et la terre par ta grande force et ton bras puissant; rien n’est trop difficile pour toi.

18 Thou shewest mercie vnto thousands, and recompensest the iniquitie of the fathers into the bosome of their children after them: O God the great and mightie, whose Name is ye Lord of hostes,

Tu étends ta bienveillance jusqu’à la millième génération, tu fais aussi retomber la faute des pères sur la tête de leurs descendants; Dieu grand et fort, qui te nommes l’Eternel-Cebaot!

19 Great in counsell, and mightie in worke, (for thine eyes are open vpon all the wayes of ye sonnes of men, to giue to euery one according to his wayes, and according to the fruite of his workes)

Grand dans le dessein, souverain dans l’exécution, tes yeux sont ouverts sur toutes les voies des humains, pour rémunérer chacun selon ses voies et selon le mérite de ses oeuvres.

20 Which hast set signes and wonders in the land of Egypt vnto this day, and in Israel, and among all men, and hast made thee a Name, as appeareth this day,

Tu as fait éclater dans le pays d’Egypte, et pour Israël et pour les autres hommes, des signes et des prodiges dont la mémoire dure encore, et tu as illustré ton nom comme cela se voit aujourd’hui.

21 And hast brought thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signes, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, with a stretched out arme, and with great terrour,

Tu as fait sortir ton peuple Israël du pays d’Egypte, au moyen de signes et de prodiges, d’une main puissante et d’un bras vainqueur, au milieu d’une terreur profonde.

22 And hast giuen them this land, which thou diddest sweare to their fathers to giue them, euen a land, that floweth with milke and hony,

Tu leur donnas ce pays que tu avais juré à leurs pères de leur donner, pays ruisselant de lait et de miel.

23 And they came in, and possessed it, but they obeyed not thy voyce, neither walked in thy Law: all that thou commaundedst them to doe, they haue not done: therefore thou hast caused this whole plague to come vpon them.

Ils y entrèrent, ils en prirent possession; mais ils n’écoutèrent point ta voix, ils ne suivirent point ta doctrine, refusant de faire tout ce que tu leur avais prescrit; alors tu suscitas contre eux toute cette calamité.

24 Beholde, the mounts, they are come into the citie to take it, and the citie is giuen into the hande of the Caldeans, that fight against it by meanes of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence, and what thou hast spoken, is come to passe, and beholde, thou seest it.

Maintenant, les terrasses avancent jusqu’à la ville, pour la prendre d’assaut; déjà elle est à la merci des Chaldéens qui l’assiègent, en proie qu’elle est au glaive, à la famine et à la peste; ce que tu as annoncé est arrivé, et tu en es témoin.

25 And thou hast sayd vnto me, O Lord God, Bye vnto thee the fielde for siluer, and take witnesses: for the citie shall be giuen into the hand of the Caldeans.

Et pourtant, Seigneur-Elohim, tu me dis: Achète-toi ce champ, à prix d’argent, et constitue des témoins, alors que cette ville est à la merci des Chaldéens!"

26 Then came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremiah, saying,

Mais l’Eternel répondit à Jérémie en ces termes:

27 Beholde, I am the LORD GOD of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

"Certes, je suis l’Eternel, Dieu de toute chair: est-il pour moi rien de trop difficile?

28 Therefore thus saith the Lord, Beholde, I wil giue this citie into the hand of the Caldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchad-nezzar, King of Babel, and he shall take it.

Voici donc ce que dit l’Eternel: Je vais livrer cette ville aux mains des Chaldéens et aux mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, qui la prendra d’assaut.

29 And the Caldeans shall come and fight against this citie, and set fire on this citie and burne it, with the houses, vpon whose rouses they haue offred incense vnto Baal, and powred drinke offrings vnto other gods, to prouoke me vnto anger.

Les Chaldéens qui assiègent cette ville y entreront, ils la mettront à feu et la réduiront en cendres avec les maisons sur les terrasses desquelles on brûlait de l’encens à Baal et faisait des libations à des dieux étrangers, avec l’intention de me contrarier.

30 For the children of Israel, and the children of Iudah haue surely done euill before me from their youth: for the children of Israel haue surely prouoked me to anger with the workes of their hands, saith the Lord.

Car les enfants d’Israël et les enfants de Juda se sont plu, depuis leur jeune âge, à faire ce qui est mal à mes yeux; les enfants d’Israël n’ont su que m’offenser par l’oeuvre de leurs mains, dit l’Eternel.

31 Therefore this citie hath bene vnto me as a prouocation of mine anger, and of my wrath, from the day, that they built it, euen vnto this day, that I should remoue it out of my sight,

Cette ville a provoqué ma colère et mon indignation, depuis le jour de sa fondation jusqu’à ce jour, au point que je veux la faire disparaître de mes yeux,

32 Because of all the euill of the children of Israel, and of the children of Iudah, which they haue done to prouoke mee to anger, euen they, their Kings, their Princes, their Priests, and their Prophets, and the men of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem.

en raison de la perversité des enfants d’Israël et des enfants de Juda, qui ont agi de façon à m’irriter, eux, leurs rois, leurs grands, leurs prêtres et leurs prophètes, de même que tous les gens de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem.

33 And they haue turned vnto me the backe and not the face: though I taught them rising vp earely, and instructing them, yet they were not obedient to receiue doctrine,

Ils ont tourné vers moi leur nuque et non leur visage; bien que sans cesse, chaque matin, on cherchât à les instruire, ils n’ont accepté aucune remontrance.

34 But they set their abominations in ye house (whereupon my Name was called) to defile it,

Jusque dans ma maison qui porte mon nom ils ont installé leurs infâmes divinités, de façon à la souiller.

35 And they built the hie places of Baal, which are in the valley of Ben-hinnom, to cause their sonnes and their daughters to passe through the fire vnto Molech, which I commanded them not, neither came it into my minde, that they should doe such abomination, to cause Iudah to sinne.

Ils ont édifié les hauts-lieux de Baal, ceux de la vallée de Hinnom, ils ont fait passer par le feu leurs fils et leurs filles en l’honneur de Moloch, acte abominable que je ne leur ai point prescrit et que ma pensée n’a jamais conçu, et ainsi Juda a été entraîné au mal."

36 And nowe therefore, thus hath the Lord God of Israel spoken, concerning this citie, whereof ye say, It shalbe deliuered into the hand of the King of Babel by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence,

Et maintenant, malgré tout, ainsi parle le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël, au sujet de cette ville dont vous dites qu’elle est à la merci du roi de Babylone, épuisée qu’elle est par le glaive, la famine et la peste:

37 Beholde, I will gather them out of all countreys, wherein I haue scattered them in mine anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation, and I wil bring them againe vnto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.

"Moi, je vais les rassembler de toutes les contrées où je les aurai relégués dans ma colère, dans mon indignation et ma fureur extrême, les réinstaller dans ces lieux-ci et leur assurer un séjour paisible.

38 And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

Ils seront mon peuple, et je serai leur Dieu.

39 And I wil giue them one heart and one way that they may feare me for euer for ye wealth of them, and of their children after them.

Je leur donnerai un seul et même coeur et une même direction, afin qu’ils me craignent leur vie durant, pour leur propre bien et le bien de leurs enfants après eux.

40 And I wil make an euerlasting couenant with them, that I wil neuer turne away from them to doe them good, but I wil put my feare in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

Et je conclurai avec eux un pacte durable, leur promettant de ne pas les abandonner et de les combler de bienfaits; je disposerai leur coeur à me vénérer et à ne pas s’écarter de moi.

41 Yea, I wil delite in them to do them good, and I wil plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart, and with all my soule.

Je prendrai plaisir à les rendre heureux et je les implanterai solidement dans ce pays, de tout mon coeur et de toute mon âme."

42 For thus sayth the Lord, Like as I haue brought all this great plague vpon this people, so wil I bring vpon them all the good that I haue promised them.

Oui, voici ce que dit le Seigneur: "Aussi bien que j’ai suscité à ce peuple toute cette grande calamité, je lui susciterai tout le bonheur que je lui annonce.

43 And the fields shalbe possessed in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast, and shalbe giuen into the hand of the Caldeans.

On achètera des champs dans ce pays qui, à vous entendre, est ruiné, vide d’hommes et d’animaux, livré au pouvoir des Chaldéens.

44 Men shall buy fields for siluer, and make writings and seale them, and take witnesses in the land of Beniamin, and round about Ierusalem, and in the cities of Iudah, and in the cities of the mountaines, and in the cities of the plaine, and in the cities of the South: for I wil cause their captiuitie to returne, saith the Lord.

On y achètera des champs à prix d’argent, on dressera des actes, on les scellera, on assignera des témoins; cela se verra dans le canton de Benjamin, aux alentours de Jérusalem, dans les villes de Juda, dans les villes de la montagne, dans les villes de la plaine et dans les villes du Midi, car je ramènerai leurs captifs," dit le Seigneur.
