Jeremiah 29
1 Now these are the wordes of the booke that Ieremiah the Prophet sent from Ierusalem vnto the residue of the Elders which were caryed away captiues, and to the Priestes, and to the Prophets, and to all the people whome Nebuchad-nezzar had caried away captiue from Ierusalem to Babel:
Voici la teneur de la lettre que Jérémie, le prophète, envoya de Jérusalem au reste des anciens en captivité, aux sacrificateurs, aux prophètes et à tout le peuple, que Nébucadnetsar avait transportés de Jérusalem à Babylone,
2 (After that Ieconiah the King, and the Queene, and the eunuches, the princes of Iudah, and of Ierusalem, and the workemen, and cunning men were departed from Ierusalem)
Après que le roi Jéchonias, avec la reine, les eunuques, les chefs de Juda et de Jérusalem, les charpentiers et les serruriers, furent sortis de Jérusalem.
3 By the hand of Elasah the sonne of Shaphan and Gemariah the sonne of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah King of Iudah sent vnto Babel to Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel) saying,
Elle fut portée par Éleasa, fils de Shaphan, et Guémaria, fils de Hilkija, que Sédécias, roi de Juda, envoyait à Babylone, vers Nébucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, et était ainsi conçue:
4 Thus hath the Lord of hostes the God of Israel spoken vnto all that are caryed away captiues, whome I haue caused to be caryed away captiues from Ierusalem vnto Babel:
Ainsi a dit l'Éternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël, à tous les captifs que j'ai transportés de Jérusalem à Babylone:
5 Buylde you houses to dwell in, and plant you gardens, and eate the fruites of them.
Bâtissez des maisons, et les habitez; plantez des jardins, et mangez-en les fruits;
6 Take you wiues, and beget sonnes and daughters, and take wiues for your sonnes, and giue your daughters to husbands, that they may beare sonnes and daughters, that ye may bee increased there, and not diminished.
Prenez des femmes, et ayez des fils et des filles; prenez des femmes pour vos fils et donnez des maris à vos filles, afin qu'elles enfantent des fils et des filles; multipliez-vous là, et ne diminuez point.
7 And seeke the prosperitie of the citie, whither I haue caused you to be caried away captiues, and pray vnto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall you haue peace.
Cherchez la paix de la ville où je vous ai transportés, et priez l'Éternel pour elle; car dans sa paix vous aurez la paix.
8 For thus saith the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, Let not your prophets, and your southsayers that bee among you, deceiue you, neither giue eare to your dreames, which you dreame.
Car ainsi a dit l'Éternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Que vos prophètes qui sont parmi vous et vos devins ne vous séduisent point, et ne croyez pas aux songes que vous songez.
9 For they prophecie you a lie in my Name: I haue not sent them, saith the Lord.
Car ils vous prophétisent faussement en mon nom. Je ne les ai point envoyés, dit l'Éternel.
10 But thus saith the Lord, That after seuentie yeeres be accomplished at Babel, I will visite you, and performe my good promise toward you, and cause you to returne to this place.
Car ainsi a dit l'Éternel: Dès que soixante et dix ans seront accomplis pour Babylone, je vous visiterai, et j'accomplirai ma bonne parole à votre égard, pour vous faire retourner en ce lieu.
11 For I knowe the thoughtes, that I haue thought towards you, saith the Lord, euen the thoughtes of peace, and not of trouble, to giue you an ende, and your hope.
Car je sais les pensées que je forme pour vous, dit l'Éternel, pensées de paix et non d'adversité, pour vous donner un avenir et une espérance.
12 Then shall you crie vnto mee, and ye shall go and pray vnto me, and I will heare you,
Alors vous m'invoquerez, et vous partirez; vous me prierez, et je vous exaucerai.
13 And ye shall seeke mee and finde mee, because ye shall seeke mee with all your heart.
Vous me chercherez, et vous me trouverez; car vous m'aurez recherché de tout votre cœur.
14 And I wil be found of you, saith the Lord, and I will turne away your captiuitie, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places, whither I haue cast you, saith the Lord, and will bring you againe vnto the place, whence I caused you to be caryed away captiue.
Je me ferai trouver de vous, dit l'Éternel, et je ramènerai vos captifs, et je vous rassemblerai de toutes les nations et de tous les lieux où je vous ai chassés, dit l'Éternel, et je vous ferai revenir au lieu d'où je vous ai transportés.
15 Because ye haue sayd, The Lord hath raised vs vp Prophets in Babel,
Cependant si vous dites: “L'Éternel nous a suscité des prophètes à Babylone; “
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord of the King, that sitteth vpon the throne of Dauid, and of all the people, that dwell in this citie, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captiuitie:
A cause de cela, l'Éternel a dit ainsi touchant le roi qui est assis sur le trône de David, et touchant tout le peuple qui habite en cette ville, et touchant vos frères qui ne sont point allés avec vous en captivité,
17 Euen thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will sende vpon them the sworde, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figges, that cannot bee eaten, they are so naughtie.
L'Éternel des armées a dit ainsi: Voici, j'envoie contre eux l'épée, la famine et la peste, et je les ferai devenir comme ces figues horribles, qu'on ne peut manger tant elles sont mauvaises.
18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence: and I will make them a terror to all kingdomes of the earth, and a curse, and astonishment and an hissing, and a reproche among all the nations whither I haue cast them,
Et je les poursuivrai par l'épée, la famine et la peste; et je les livrerai pour être agités par tous les royaumes de la terre, et pour être en malédiction, en étonnement, en moquerie et en opprobre, à toutes les nations où je les aurai chassés;
19 Because they haue not hearde my words, saith the Lord, which I sent vnto them by my seruantes the Prophetes, rising vp earely, and sending them, but yee woulde not heare, saith the Lord.
Parce qu'ils n'ont pas écouté mes paroles, dit l'Éternel, lorsque je leur ai envoyé mes serviteurs, les prophètes, que j'ai envoyés dès le matin; mais vous n'écoutiez pas, dit l'Éternel.
20 Heare ye therefore the word of the Lord all ye of the captiuitie, whome I haue sent from Ierusalem to Babel.
Mais écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, vous, tous les captifs, que j'ai envoyés de Jérusalem à Babylone.
21 Thus saith the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, of Ahab the sonne of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maaseiah, which prophecie lyes vnto you in my Name, Beholde, I will deliuer them into the hande of Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel, and he shall slay them before your eyes.
Ainsi a dit l'Éternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël, sur Achab, fils de Kolaja, et sur Sédécias, fils de Maaséja, qui vous prophétisent faussement en mon nom: Voici, je les livre aux mains de Nébucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, et il les fera mourir sous vos yeux.
22 And al they of the captiuitie of Iudah, that are in Babel, shall take vp this curse against them, and say, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whome the King of Babel burnt in the fire,
Et on prendra d'eux une formule de malédiction, parmi tous les captifs de Juda qui sont à Babylone; on dira: “Que l'Éternel te traite comme Sédécias et Achab, que le roi de Babylone a fait brûler vifs! “
23 Because they haue committed vilenie in Israel, and haue committed adulterie with their neighbours wiues, and haue spoken lying words in my Name, which I haue not commanded them, euen I knowe it, and testifie it, saith the Lord.
Parce qu'ils ont fait des infamies en Israël, et qu'ils ont commis adultère avec les femmes de leur prochain, et qu'ils ont dit en mon nom des paroles fausses que je ne leur avais point commandées; c'est moi-même qui le sais, et j'en suis le témoin, dit l'Éternel.
24 Thou shalt also speake to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,
Parle aussi à Shémaja, Néchélamite, et dis-lui:
25 Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy Name vnto all the people, that are at Ierusalem, and to Zephaniah the sonne of Maaseiah the Priest, and to all the Priests, saying,
Ainsi a dit l'Éternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Parce que tu as envoyé en ton nom des lettres à tout le peuple qui est à Jérusalem, à Sophonie, fils de Maaséja, le sacrificateur, et à tous les sacrificateurs, leur disant:
26 The Lord hath made thee Priest for Iehoiada the Priest, that yee should bee officers in the House of the Lord, for euery man that raueth and maketh himselfe a Prophet, to put him in prison and in the stockes.
L'Éternel t'a établi sacrificateur à la place de Jéhojada, le sacrificateur, afin qu'il y ait, dans la maison de l'Éternel, des inspecteurs pour surveiller tout homme qui fait l'inspiré et le prophète, et pour le mettre en prison et dans les fers.
27 Nowe therefore why hast not thou reproued Ieremiah of Anathoth, which prophecieth vnto you?
Et maintenant, pourquoi n'as-tu pas réprimé Jérémie d'Anathoth, qui vous prophétise?
28 For, for this cause hee sent vnto vs in Babel, saying, This captiuitie is long: buyld houses to dwell in, and plant gardens, and eate the fruites of them.
Car c'est pour cela qu'il a envoyé vers nous, à Babylone, pour nous dire: Ce sera long; bâtissez des maisons, et habitez-les; plantez des jardins, et mangez-en les fruits.
29 And Zephaniah the Priest red this letter in the eares of Ieremiah the Prophet.
Or Sophonie, le sacrificateur, avait lu cette lettre en présence de Jérémie, le prophète.
30 Then came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremiah, saying,
Et la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie, en ces mots:
31 Send to all them of the captiuitie, saying, Thus saith the Lord of Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah hath prophecied vnto you, and I sent him not, and hee caused you to trust in a lye,
Mande ceci à tous ceux qui ont été transportés: Ainsi a dit l'Éternel sur Shémaja de Néchélam: Parce que Shémaja vous a prophétisé, quoique je ne l'aie point envoyé, et qu'il vous a fait mettre votre confiance dans le mensonge;
32 Therefore thus saieth the Lord, Behold, I wil visite Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seede: hee shall not haue a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he beholde the good, that I will doe for my people, sayth the Lord, because he hath spoken rebelliously against the Lord.
A cause de cela, ainsi a dit l'Éternel: Voici, je vais punir Shémaja, Néchélamite, et sa postérité; il n'y aura personne de sa race qui habite parmi ce peuple; et il ne verra pas le bien que je vais faire à mon peuple, dit l'Éternel, parce qu'il a prêché la révolte contre l'Éternel.
