Jeremiah 26
1 In the beginning of the reigne of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah, came this worde from the Lord, saying,
Au commencement du règne de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole vint de Yahvé:
2 Thus saith the Lord, Sande in the court of the Lordes House, and speake vnto all the cities of Iudah, which come to worshippe in the Lords House, all the wordes that I commaund thee to speake vnto them: keepe not a worde backe,
« Yahvé dit: 'Tiens-toi dans le parvis de la maison de Yahvé, et dis à toutes les villes de Juda qui viennent se prosterner dans la maison de Yahvé toutes les paroles que je t'ordonne de leur dire. N'omets pas un mot.
3 If so be they will hearken, and turne euery man from his euill way, that I may repent me of the plague, which I haue determined to bring vpon them, because of the wickednesse of their workes.
Il se peut qu'ils écoutent et que chacun revienne de sa mauvaise voie, afin que je renonce au mal que j'ai l'intention de leur faire à cause de la méchanceté de leurs actions.'"
4 And thou shalt say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord, If ye will not heare me to walke in my Lawes, which I haue set before you,
Tu leur diras: « Yahvé dit: 'Si vous ne m'écoutez pas, si vous ne marchez pas dans ma loi que j'ai mise devant vous,
5 And to heare ye wordes of my seruants the Prophets, whome I sent vnto you, both rising vp earely, and sending them, and will not obey them,
si vous n'écoutez pas les paroles de mes serviteurs les prophètes que je vous envoie, même en vous levant de bonne heure et en les envoyant - mais que vous n'avez pas écouté-
6 Then will I make this House like Shiloh, and will make this citie a curse to all the nations of the earth.
alors je rendrai cette maison semblable à Silo, et je ferai de cette ville une malédiction pour toutes les nations de la terre.'"
7 So the Priestes, and the Prophets, and all the people heard Ieremiah speaking these wordes in the House of the Lord.
Les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple entendirent Jérémie prononcer ces paroles dans la maison de l'Éternel.
8 Nowe when Ieremiah had made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speake vnto all the people, then the Priestes, and the prophets, and all the people tooke him, and saide, Thou shalt die the death.
Lorsque Jérémie eut achevé de dire tout ce que l'Éternel lui avait ordonné de dire à tout le peuple, les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple le saisirent, en disant: « Tu mourras!
9 Why hast thou prophecied in the Name of the Lord, saying, This House shall be like Shiloh, and this citie shalbe desolate without an inhabitant? and all the people were gathered against Ieremiah in the House of the Lord.
Pourquoi as-tu prophétisé au nom de Yahvé, en disant: « Cette maison sera comme Silo, et cette ville sera déserte, sans habitant? ». Tout le peuple était entassé autour de Jérémie dans la maison de Yahvé.
10 And when the princes of Iudah heard of these things, they came vp from the Kings house into the House of the Lord, and sate downe in the entrie of the new gate of the Lords House.
Lorsque les princes de Juda eurent entendu ces choses, ils montèrent de la maison du roi à la maison de l'Éternel, et ils s'assirent à l'entrée de la nouvelle porte de la maison de l'Éternel.
11 Then spake the Priestes, and the prophets vnto the princes, and to all the people, saying, This man is worthie to die: for he hath prophecied against this citie, as ye haue heard with your eares.
Alors les prêtres et les prophètes parlèrent aux chefs et à tout le peuple, en disant: « Cet homme mérite la mort, car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, comme vous l'avez entendu de vos oreilles. »
12 Then spake Ieremiah vnto all the princes, and to al the people, saying, The Lord hath sent me to prophecie against this house and against this citie all the things that ye haue heard.
Alors Jérémie parla à tous les chefs et à tout le peuple, et dit: « L'Éternel m'a envoyé pour prophétiser contre cette maison et contre cette ville toutes les paroles que vous avez entendues.
13 Therefore nowe amende your wayes and your workes, and heare the voyce of the Lord your God, that the Lord may repent him of the plague, that he hath pronounced against you.
Maintenant, corrigez vos voies et vos actions, et obéissez à la voix de l'Éternel, votre Dieu; alors l'Éternel se retirera du mal qu'il a prononcé contre vous.
14 As for me, beholde, I am in your hands: do with me as ye thinke good and right.
Quant à moi, voici, je suis entre tes mains. Fais de moi ce qui est bon et juste à tes yeux.
15 But knowe ye for certaine, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood vpon your selues, and vpon this citie, and vpon the inhabitants thereof: for of a trueth the Lord hath sent me vnto you, to speake all these words in your eares.
Sachez seulement que si vous me faites mourir, vous ferez retomber le sang innocent sur vous-mêmes, sur cette ville et sur ses habitants; car en vérité, l'Éternel m'a envoyé vers vous pour prononcer toutes ces paroles à vos oreilles. »
16 Then saide the princes and all the people vnto the Priestes, and to the prophets, This man is not worthie to die: for he hath spoken vnto vs in the Name of the Lord our God.
Alors les princes et tout le peuple dirent aux prêtres et aux prophètes: « Cet homme n'est pas digne de mourir, car il nous a parlé au nom de Yahvé notre Dieu. »
17 Then rose vp certaine of the Elders of the lande, and spake to all the assemblie of the people, saying,
Alors quelques-uns des anciens du pays se levèrent, et parlèrent à toute l'assemblée du peuple, en disant:
18 Michah the Morashite prophecied in the dayes of Hezekiah king of Iudah, and spake to al the people of Iudah, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hostes, Zion shall be plowed like a fielde, and Ierusalem shalbe an heape, and the mountaine of the House shalbe as the hie places of the forest.
« Michée, le Morashtite, prophétisa au temps d'Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et il parla à tout le peuple de Juda, en disant: « L'Éternel des armées dit: "'Sion sera labourée comme un champ, et Jérusalem deviendra un tas, et la montagne de la maison comme les hauts lieux d'une forêt.
19 Did Hezekiah King of Iudah, and all Iudah put him to death? did he not feare ye Lord, and prayed before the Lord, and the Lord repented him of the plague, that he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great euill against our soules.
Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et tout Juda ne l'ont-ils pas fait mourir? Ne craignait-il pas Yahvé, n'implorait-il pas la faveur de Yahvé, et Yahvé ne s'est-il pas détourné du malheur qu'il avait prononcé contre eux? Nous commettrions ainsi un grand mal contre nos propres âmes! ».
20 And there was also a man that prophecied in the Name of the Lord, one Vriiah the sonne of Shemaiah, of Kiriath-iarem, who prophecied against this citie, and against this lande, according to all the wordes of Ieremiah.
Il y avait aussi un homme qui prophétisait au nom de l'Éternel, Urie, fils de Shemahia, de Kiriath Jearim, et il prophétisa contre cette ville et contre ce pays, selon toutes les paroles de Jérémie.
21 Nowe when Iehoiakim the King with all his men of power, and all the princes heard his wordes, the King sought to slay him. But when Vriiah heard it, he was afraide and fled, and went into Egypt.
Lorsque le roi Jehoïakim, avec tous ses hommes forts et tous les princes, entendit ses paroles, le roi chercha à le faire mourir; mais Urie, l'ayant entendu, eut peur, s'enfuit et alla en Égypte.
22 Then Iehoiakim the King sent men into Egypt, euen Elnathan the sonne of Achbor, and certaine with him into Egypt.
Le roi Jehoïakim envoya en Égypte Elnathan, fils d'Acbor, et quelques hommes avec lui.
23 And they fet Vriiah out of Egypt, and brought him vnto Iehoiakim the King, who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead bodie into the graues of the children of the people.
Ils allèrent chercher Urie en Égypte et l'amenèrent au roi Jojakim, qui le tua par l'épée et jeta son cadavre dans les tombes des gens du peuple.
24 But the hande of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan was with Ieremiah that they shoulde not giue him into the hande of the people to put him to death.
Mais la main d'Ahikam, fils de Shaphan, était avec Jérémie, de sorte qu'ils ne le livrèrent pas entre les mains du peuple pour le faire mourir.
