Jeremiah 17
1 The sinne of Iudah is written with a pen of yron, and with the poynt of a diamonde, and grauen vpon the table of their heart, and vpon the hornes of your altars.
Le péché de Juda est écrit avec un style de fer, une pointe de diamant; il est gravé sur la table de leur cœur et aux cornes de leurs autels.
2 They remember their altars as their children, with their groues by the greene trees vpon the hilles.
Comme ils pensent à leurs enfants, ainsi pensent-ils à leurs autels, et à leurs Aschères près des arbres verdoyants et sur les collines élevées.
3 O my mountaine in the fielde, I will giue thy substance, and all thy treasures to be spoyled, for the sinne of thy high places throughout all thy borders.
O ma montagne, qui es dans la campagne! je donnerai ton bien, tous tes trésors en pillage, et tes hauts lieux, à cause de tes péchés commis dans toutes tes limites.
4 And thou shalt rest, and in thee shall be a rest from thine heritage that I gaue thee, and I will cause thee to serue thine enemies in the land, which thou knowest not: for yee haue kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burne for euer.
Et tu auras, et par ta faute, à laisser là ton héritage que je te donnai; et je t'asservirai à tes ennemis dans un pays que tu ne connais pas, car vous avez allumé le feu de ma colère, et il brûlera toujours.
5 Thus saith the Lord, Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arme, and withdraweth his heart from the Lord.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Maudit soit l'homme qui se confie dans l'homme, et qui prend la chair pour son appui, et dont le cœur déserte l'Éternel!
6 For he shall be like the heath in the wildernesse, and shall not see when any good commeth, but shall inhabite the parched places in the wildernesse, in a salt land, and not inhabited.
Il est comme un homme nu dans un désert, et ne voit point le bonheur arriver; il habite les lieux brûlés du désert, une terre salée et inhabitée.
7 Blessed be the man, that trusteth in ye Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
Béni soit l'homme qui se confie dans l'Éternel, et dont l'Éternel est la confiance!
8 For he shall be as a tree that is planted by the water, which spreadeth out her rootes by the riuer, and shall not feele when the heate commeth, but her leafe shall be greene, and shall not care for the yeere of drought, neyther shall cease from yeelding fruit.
Il est comme un arbre planté près des eaux; il pousse ses racines vers le courant, et ne craint pas quand la chaleur vient, et son feuillage est vert, et dans l'année de sécheresse il n'est point inquiet, et il ne cesse de porter du fruit.
9 The heart is deceitfull and wicked aboue all things, who can knowe it?
Rien n'est plus tortueux que le cœur, et il est méchant; qui peut le connaître?
10 I the Lord search the heart, and try ye reines, euen to giue euery man according to his wayes, and according to the fruite of his workes.
Moi, l'Éternel, je sonde le cœur, j'éprouve les reins, et cela pour rendre à chacun selon ses voies, selon le fruit de ses œuvres.
11 As the partryche gathereth the yong, which she hath not brought forth: so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leaue them in the middes of his dayes, and at his ende shall bee a foole.
Une perdrix qui couve des œufs qu'elle n'a point pondus, tel est l'homme qui se crée une richesse sans la droiture: à la moitié de ses jours il devra la quitter, et à sa fin il se trouvera être un insensé.
12 As a glorious throne exalted from the beginning, so is the place of our Sanctuarie.
Le lieu de mon Sanctuaire est un trône de gloire et de majesté dès le commencement.
13 O Lord, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee, shall be confounded: they that depart from thee, shalbe written in the earth, because they haue forsaken the Lord, the fountaine of liuing waters.
Espoir d'Israël, ô Éternel, quiconque t'abandonne, sera confondu. – « Ceux qui me quittent, seront inscrits sur la poussière, car ils abandonnent la source des eaux vives, l'Éternel. »
14 Heale me, O Lord, and I shall bee whole: saue me, and I shall bee saued: for thou art my prayse.
Guéris-moi, Éternel, et je serai guéri; sauve-moi, et je serai sauvé, car tu es ma gloire.
15 Behold, they say vnto me, Where is the word of the Lord? let it come nowe.
Voici, ils me disent: Où est la parole de l'Éternel? qu'elle se réalise donc!
16 But I haue not thrust in my selfe for a pastour after thee, neither haue I desired the day of miserie, thou knowest: that which came out of my lips, was right before thee.
Et moi, je n'ai point évité de te suivre comme pasteur, et je n'ai point désiré le jour du malheur, tu le sais; ce qui est sorti de mes lèvres, est découvert à tes regards.
17 Be not terrible vnto mee: thou art mine hope in the day of aduersitie.
Ne sois point mon effroi, toi, mon refuge au jour du malheur.
18 Let them bee confounded, that persecute me, but let not me be confounded: let them be afraide, but let not me be afraide: bring vpon them the day of aduersitie, and destroy them with double destruction.
Confonds mes persécuteurs, mais ne me confonds pas; atterre-les, mais ne m'atterre pas! Fais venir sur eux le jour du malheur, brise-les à coups redoublés!
19 Thus hath the Lord said vnto me, Goe and stande in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the Kings of Iudah come in, and by the which they goe out, and in all ye gates of Ierusalem,
Ainsi me parla l'Éternel: Va, et te place à la porte des fils du peuple, par laquelle entrent et sortent les rois de Juda, et à toutes les portes de Jérusalem,
20 And say vnto them, Heare the word of the Lord, ye Kings of Iudah, and al Iudah, and all the inhabitants of Ierusale, that enter in by these gates.
et dis-leur: Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, rois de Juda, et tout Juda, et vous tous les habitants de Jérusalem, qui passez par ces portes!
21 Thus sayth the Lord, Take heede to your soules, and beare no burden in the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Ierusalem.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Prenez garde à vous pour l'amour de vos âmes, et ne portez point de fardeaux le jour du repos, et ne les faites pas passer par les portes de Jérusalem;
22 Neither cary foorth burdens out of your houses in the Sabbath day: neither doe yee any worke, but sanctifie the Sabbath, as I commanded your fathers.
et ne transportez aucun fardeau hors de vos maisons le jour du repos, et ne faites aucune œuvre; mais sanctifiez le jour du repos, ainsi que je le prescrivis à vos pères.
23 But they obeied not, neither inclined their eares, but made their neckes stiffe and would not heare, nor receiue correction.
Cependant ils n'obéirent pas, et ne prêtèrent pas l'oreille, mais roidirent leur col, pour ne point écouter et ne point recevoir la correction.
24 Neuerthelesse if ye will heare me, sayth the Lord, and beare no burden through the gates of the citie in the Sabbath day, but sanctifie ye Sabbath day, so that ye do no worke therein,
Mais si vous m'obéissez, dit l'Éternel, en ne portant point de fardeaux par les portes de cette ville le jour du repos, et si vous sanctifiez le jour du repos en ne faisant aucune œuvre ce jour-là, alors,
25 Then shall the Kings and the princes enter in at the gates of this citie, and shall sit vpon the throne of Dauid, and shall ride vpon charets, and vpon horses, both they and their princes, the men of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem: and this citie shall remaine for euer.
par les portes de cette ville entreront les rois et les princes assis sur le trône de David, montés sur des chars et des chevaux, eux et leurs princes, les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, et cette ville sera habitée éternellement,
26 And they shall come from the cities of Iudah, and from about Ierusalem, and from the land of Beniamin, and from the plaine, and from the mountaines, and from the South, which shall bring burnt offrings, and sacrifices, and meate offrings, and incense, and shall bring sacrifice of prayse into the house of the Lord.
et l'on viendra des villes de Juda, et des alentours de Jérusalem, et du pays de Benjamin et du Bas-Pays, et de la montagne et du Midi, offrir des holocaustes, des victimes, et des offrandes et de l'encens, et offrir des actions de grâces dans la maison de l'Éternel.
27 But if ye will not heare me to sanctifie the Sabbath day, and not to beare a burden nor to go through the gates of Ierusalem in the Sabbath day, then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall deuoure the palaces of Ierusalem, and it shall not be quenched.
Mais si vous ne m'obéissez pas, en sanctifiant le jour du repos, et en ne portant aucun fardeau, et en n'entrant point dans les portes de Jérusalem le jour du repos, j'allumerai un feu aux portes de la ville, afin qu'il dévore les palais de Jérusalem et ne s'éteigne point.
