Jeremiah 15

1 Then sayde the Lord vnto me, Though Moses and Samuel stoode before mee, yet mine affection coulde not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them depart.

آنگاه خداوند به من فرمود: «حتی اگر موسی و سموئیل در حضور من می‌ایستادند و برای این قوم شفاعت می‌نمودند، بر ایشان ترحم نمی‌کردم. این قوم را از نظرم دور کن تا بروند.

2 And if they say vnto thee, Whither shall we depart? then tell them, Thus saith the Lord, Such as are appointed to death, vnto death: and such as are for the sworde, to the sworde: and such as are for the famine, to the famine: and such as are for the captiuitie, to the captiuitie.

اگر از تو بپرسند که به کجا بروند، از جانب من بگو که آنکه محکوم به مرگ است، به سوی مرگ؛ آنکه محکوم است با شمشیر کشته شود، به سوی شمشیر؛ آنکه محکوم است با قحطی هلاک گردد، به سوی قحطی و آنکه محکوم به اسیری است به سوی اسارت و بردگی!

3 And I wil appoint ouer them foure kindes, sayth the Lord, the sworde to slay, and the dogs to teare in pieces, and the soules of the heauen, and the beastes of the earth to deuoure, and to destroy.

من چهار هلاک کننده بر آنان خواهم فرستاد: شمشیر، تا آنان را بکشد؛ سگان، تا آنان را بدرند؛ لاشخورها، تا آنان را بخورند؛ و حیوانات وحشی، تا آنان را تکه پاره کنند.

4 I will scatter them also in all kingdomes of the earth, because of Manasseh the sonne of Hezekiah King of Iudah, for that which he did in Ierusalem.

«به سبب کارهای بدی که منسی، پسر حِزِقیا، پادشاه یهودا در اورشلیم کرد، ایشان را به چنان مجازات سختی خواهم رساند که مردم دنیا از سرنوشتشان وحشت نمایند!

5 Who shall then haue pitie vpon thee, O Ierusalem? or who shalbe sorie for thee? or who shall go to pray for thy peace?

«ای اهالی اورشلیم، چه کسی دیگر دلش به حال شما می‌سوزد؟ چه کسی برای شما گریه و زاری می‌کند؟ چه کسی حتی حاضر می‌شود به خود زحمت بدهد تا احوالتان را جویا شود؟

6 Thou hast forsaken me, sayth the Lord, and gone backward: therefore wil I stretch out mine hand against thee, and destroy thee: for I am weary with repenting.

شما مرا ترک کرده و از من روگردانده‌اید، پس من نیز دست خود را دراز می‌کنم تا شما را نابود کنم، چون دیگر از رحم کردن به شما خسته شده‌ام!

7 And I wil scatter them with the fanne in the gates of the earth I haue wasted, and destroyed my people, yet they would not returne from their wayes.

کنار دروازه‌های شهرهایتان، شما را غربال خواهم کرد. فرزندانتان را از شما گرفته، نابودتان خواهم ساخت، چون نمی‌خواهید از گناه دست بردارید.

8 Their widdowes are increased by mee aboue the sande of the sea: I haue brought vpon them, and against the assembly of the yong men a destroyer at noone day: I haue caused him to fal vpon them, and the citie suddenly, and speedily.

شمار بیوه زنانتان مانند ریگهای ساحل زیاد خواهد شد؛ به هنگام ظهر، مردان جوان را کشته و مادرانشان را داغدار خواهم ساخت؛ کاری خواهم کرد که وحشت ناگهانی همهٔ آنها را فرا گیرد.

9 Shee that hath borne seuen, hath bene made weake: her heart hath failed: the sunne hath failed her, whiles it was day: she hath bene confounded, and ashamed, and the residue of them will I deliuer vnto the sworde before their enemies, sayth the Lord.

مادری که صاحب هفت فرزند می‌باشد از غصه دق می‌کند، چون تمام پسرانش کشته خواهند شد؛ خورشید زندگی او به‌زودی غروب می‌کند! او بی‌اولاد و رسوا خواهد شد! هر که را زنده باقی مانده باشد به دم شمشیر خواهم سپرد!»

10 Wo is mee, my mother, that thou hast borne mee, a contentious man, and a man that striueth with the whole earth I haue neither lent on vsury, nor men haue lent vnto me on vsurie: yet euery one doeth curse me.

گفتم: «وای که چه مرد بدبختی هستم! ای کاش مادرم مرا به دنیا نیاورده بود! به هر جا که می‌روم، باید با همه مباحثه و مجادله کنم؛ نه به کسی پول به نزول داده‌ام، نه از کسی پول به نزول گرفته‌ام، با وجود این همه نفرینم می‌کنند!»

11 The Lord sayd, Surely thy remnant shall haue wealth: surely I will cause thine enemie to intreate thee in the time of trouble, and in the time of affliction.

خداوند فرمود: «یقین بدان آینده‌ات نیکو خواهد بود؛ مطمئن باش که دشمن را وادار خواهم ساخت که به هنگام گرفتاری و بدبختی از تو درخواست کمک نماید.

12 Shall the yron breake the yron, and the brasse that commeth from the North?

«کسی نمی‌تواند میله‌های آهنی را بشکند، بخصوص آهن سرزمینهای شمال را که با مفرغ مخلوط شده باشد؛ همین‌طور سرسختی این قوم را نیز کسی نمی‌تواند در هم بشکند! پس به سبب همهٔ گناهانشان در تمام این سرزمین، ثروت و گنجهایشان را به عنوان غنیمت به دست دشمن خواهم سپرد.

13 Thy substance and thy treasures wil I giue to be spoyled without gaine, and that for all thy sinnes euen in all thy borders.

14 And I wil make thee to go with thine enemies into a land that thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burne you.

اجازه خواهم داد تا دشمنانشان ایشان را مانند برده به سرزمینی ببرند که قبلاً هرگز در آنجا نبوده‌اند؛ زیرا آتش خشم من شعله‌ور شده، ایشان را خواهد سوزاند!»

15 O Lord, thou knowest, remember me, and visite me, and reuenge me of my persecuters: take mee not away in the continuance of thine anger: know that for thy sake I haue suffered rebuke.

آنگاه عرض کردم: «خداوندا، تو می‌دانی به خاطر توست که این همه توهین و ناسزا می‌شنوم! پس مرا به یاد آور و از من مراقبت نما! انتقام مرا از آزاردهندگانم بگیر؛ نسبت به آنها آنقدر صبور نباش تا موفق شوند مرا بکشند.

16 Thy wordes were founde by me, and I did eate them, and thy worde was vnto me the ioy and reioycing of mine heart: for thy Name is called vpon me, O Lord God of hostes.

آنچه به من تاب و تحمل می‌دهد، کلام توست که خوراک روح گرسنهٔ من است؛ کلام تو دل اندوهگین مرا شاد و خرم می‌سازد. ای خداوند لشکرهای آسمان، چه افتخار بزرگی است که نام تو را بر خود دارم!

17 I sate not in the assembly of the mockers, neither did I reioyce, but sate alone because of thy plague: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

در ضیافتهای مردم خوشگذران شرکت نکرده‌ام بلکه به دستور تو به تنهایی نشسته از به یاد آوردن گناهان ایشان از خشم لبریز می‌شوم.

18 Why is mine heauines continuall? and my plague desperate and cannot be healed? why art thou vnto me as a lyar, and as waters that faile?

چرا درد من دائمی است؟ چرا زخمهای من التیام نمی‌یابند؟ آیا می‌خواهی مرا ناامید کنی و برای جان تشنهٔ من، سراب باشی؟»

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou returne, then wil I bring thee againe, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take away the precious from the vile, thou shalt be according to my worde: let them returne vnto thee, but returne not thou vnto them.

خداوند جواب داد: «سخنان بیهوده مگو؛ سخنان سنجیده بر زبان بران! فقط زمانی خواهم گذاشت پیام‌آور من باشی که نزد من بازگردی و به من توکل نمایی؛ در آن صورت به جای آنکه آنها بر تو تأثیر بگذارند، تو بر آنها تأثیر خواهی گذاشت.

20 And I will make thee vnto this people a strong brasen wall, and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not preuaile against thee: for I am with thee to saue thee and to deliuer thee, saith ye Lord.

همان‌گونه که تسخیر شهری با دیوارهای محکم میسر نیست، من نیز تو را در برابر آنها مانند دیواری از مفرغ خواهم ساخت؛ آنها با تو خواهند جنگید، اما پیروز نخواهند شد، چون من با تو هستم تا از تو دفاع کنم و رهایی‌ات دهم.

21 And I will deliuer thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeeme thee out of the hand of the tyrants.

بله، من تو را از چنگ این اشخاص بدکار بیرون می‌کشم و از شر این مردم سنگدل نجات می‌دهم.»
