Jeremiah 10
1 Heare ye the worde of the Lord that he speaketh vnto you, O house of Israel.
Ouvi a palavra que o Senhor vos falla a vós, ó casa d'Israel.
2 Thus saith the Lord, Learne not the way of the heathen, and be not afraid for the signes of heauen, though the heathen be afraid of such.
Assim diz o Senhor: Não aprendaes o caminho das nações, nem vos espanteis dos signaes dos céus: porque com elles se atemorisam as nações.
3 For the customes of the people are vaine: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest (which is the worke of the handes of the carpenter) with the axe,
Porque os estatutos dos povos são vaidade: pois corta-se do bosque um madeiro, obra das mãos do artifice, com machado;
4 And another decketh it with siluer, and with golde: they fasten it with nailes, and hammers, that it fall not.
Com prata e com oiro o enfeitam, com pregos e com martelos o firmam, para que não se abale.
5 The idoles stande vp as the palme tree, but speake not: they are borne because they cannot go feare them not, for they cannot do euill, neither can they do good.
São como a palma da obra magica, porém não podem fallar; necessitam de ser levados aos hombros, porquanto não podem andar; não tenhaes temor d'elles, pois não podem fazer mal, nem tão pouco teem poder de fazer bem.
6 There is none like vnto thee, O Lord: thou art great, and thy name is great in power.
Pois ninguem ha similhante a ti, ó Senhor: tu és grande, e grande o teu nome em força.
7 Who would not feare thee, O King of nations? for to thee appertaineth the dominion: for among all the wise men of the Gentiles, and in al their kingdomes there is none like thee.
Quem te não temeria a ti, ó Rei das nações? pois isto te compete a ti; porquanto entre todos os sabios das nações, e em todo o seu reino, não ha similhante a ti.
8 But, altogether they dote, and are foolish: for the stocke is a doctrine of vanitie.
Pois juntamente todos se embruteceram e vieram a enlouquecer: ensino de vaidades é o madeiro.
9 Siluer plates are brought from Tarshish, and golde from Vphaz, for the worke of the workeman, and the handes of the founder: the blewe silke, and the purple is their clothing: all these things are made by cunning men.
Trazem prata estendida de Tarsis e oiro d'Uphaz, para obra do artifice, e das mãos do fundidor: fazem seus vestidos d'azul celeste e purpura; obra de sabios são todos elles.
10 But the Lord is the God of trueth: he is the liuing God, and an euerlasting King: at his anger the earth shall tremble, and the nations cannot abide his wrath.
Porém o Senhor Deus é a verdade; elle mesmo é o Deus vivo e o Rei eterno; do seu furor treme a terra, e as nações não podem supportar a sua indignação.
11 (Thus shall you say vnto them, The gods that haue not made the heauens and the earth, shall perish from the earth, and from vnder these heauens)
Assim lhes direis: Os deuses que não fizeram os céus e a terra perecerão da terra e de debaixo d'este céu.
12 He hath made the earth by his power, and established the worlde by his wisedome, and hath stretched out the heauen by his discretion.
Elle é aquelle que fez a terra com o seu poder, que estabeleceu o mundo com a sua sabedoria, e com a sua intelligencia estendeu os céus.
13 Hee giueth by his voyce the multitude of waters in the heauen, and he causeth the cloudes to ascend from the endes of the earth: he turneth lightnings to rayne, and bringeth forth the winde out of his treasures.
Dando elle a sua voz, logo ha arroido de aguas no céu, e faz subir os vapores da extremidade da terra: faz os relampagos juntamente com a chuva, e faz sair o vento dos seus thesouros.
14 Euery man is a beast by his owne knowledge: euery founder is confounded by the grauen image: for his melting is but falsehood, and there is no breath therein.
Todo o homem se embruteceu, e não tem sciencia; envergonha-se todo o fundidor da imagem d'esculptura; porque sua imagem fundida mentira é, e não ha espirito n'ellas.
15 They are vanitie, and the worke of errours: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
Vaidade são, obra d'enganos: no tempo da sua visitação virão o perecer.
16 The portion of Iaakob is not like them: for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the rodde of his inheritance: the Lord of hostes is his Name.
Não é similhante a estes a porção de Jacob; porque elle é o que o formou, e Israel é a vara da sua herança: Senhor dos Exercitos é o seu nome.
17 Gather vp thy wares out of the land, O thou that dwellest in the strong place.
Ajunta da terra a tua mercadoria, ó moradora na fortaleza.
18 For thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, at this time I will throwe as with a sling the inhabitants of the lande, and will trouble them, and they shall finde it so.
Porque assim diz o Senhor: Eis que d'esta vez lançarei como com funda aos moradores da terra, e os angustiarei, para que venham a achal-o, dizendo:
19 Wo is me for my destruction, and my grieuous plague: but I thought, Yet it is my sorow, and I will beare it.
Ai de mim por causa do meu quebrantamento! a minha chaga me causa grande dôr; e eu havia dito: Certamente enfermidade é esta que poderei supportar.
20 My tabernacle is destroyed, and all my coardes are broken: my children are gone from me, and are not: there is none to spread out my tent any more, and to set vp my curtaines.
Já a minha tenda está destruida, e todas as minhas cordas se romperam; já os meus filhos sairam de mim, e não são; ninguem ha mais que estenda a minha tenda, nem que levante as minhas cortinas.
21 For the Pastours are become beasts, and haue not sought the Lord: therefore haue they none vnderstanding: and all the flockes of their pastures are scattered.
Porque os pastores se embruteceram, e não buscaram ao Senhor: por isso não prosperaram, e todos os seus gados se espalharam.
22 Beholde, the noyse of the brute is come, and a great commotion out of the North countrey to make the cities of Iudah desolate, and a denne of dragons.
Eis que vem uma voz de fama, grande tremor da terra do norte, para fazer das cidades de Judah uma assolação, uma morada de dragões.
23 O Lord, I knowe, that the way of man is not in himselfe, neyther is it in man to walke and to direct his steps.
Bem sei eu, ó Senhor, que não é do homem o seu caminho nem do homem que caminha o dirigir os seus passos.
24 O Lord, correct mee, but with iudgement, not in thine anger, least thou bring mee to nothing.
Castiga-me, ó Senhor, porém com medida, não na tua ira, para que me não reduzas a nada.
25 Powre out thy wrath vpon the heathen, that knowe thee not, and vpon the families that call not on thy Name: for they haue eaten vp Iaakob and deuoured him and consumed him, and haue made his habitation desolate.
Derrama a tua indignação sobre as nações que te não conhecem, e sobre as gerações que não invocam o teu nome; porque comeram a Jacob, e o devoraram, e o consumiram, e assolaram a sua morada.
