Jeremiah 10

1 Heare ye the worde of the Lord that he speaketh vnto you, O house of Israel.

इस्राएल वंशजों, तुम्हें संबोधित बात सुनो.

2 Thus saith the Lord, Learne not the way of the heathen, and be not afraid for the signes of heauen, though the heathen be afraid of such.

याहवेह कह रहे हैं: “अन्य जनताओं के आचार-व्यवहार परिपाटी एवं प्रथाओं को सीखने का प्रयास न करो और न ही आकाश में घटित हो रहे असाधारण लक्षणों से विचलित हो जाओ, यद्यपि अन्य राष्ट्र, निःसंदेह, इनसे विचलित हो जाते हैं.

3 For the customes of the people are vaine: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest (which is the worke of the handes of the carpenter) with the axe,

क्योंकि लोगों की प्रथाएं मात्र भ्रम हैं, कारण यह वन से काटकर लाया गया काठ ही तो है, काष्ठ शिल्पी द्वारा उसके छेनी से बनाया गया है.

4 And another decketh it with siluer, and with golde: they fasten it with nailes, and hammers, that it fall not.

वे ही इन्हें स्वर्ण और चांदी से सजाते है; इन्हें कीलों द्वारा हथौड़ों के प्रहार से जोड़ा जाता है कि ये अपने स्थान पर स्थिर रहें.

5 The idoles stande vp as the palme tree, but speake not: they are borne because they cannot go feare them not, for they cannot do euill, neither can they do good.

उनकी प्रतिमाएं ककड़ी के खेत में खड़े किए गए बिजूखा सदृश हैं, जो बात नहीं कर सकतीं; उन्हें तो उठाकर एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान पर ले जाया जाता है क्योंकि वे तो चल ही नहीं सकतीं. मत डरो उनसे; वे कोई हानि नहीं कर सकतीं वस्तुतः वे तो कोई कल्याण भी नहीं कर सकतीं.”

6 There is none like vnto thee, O Lord: thou art great, and thy name is great in power.

याहवेह, कोई भी नहीं है आपके सदृश; आप महान हैं, और सामर्थ्य में असाधारण हैं आपकी प्रतिष्ठा.

7 Who would not feare thee, O King of nations? for to thee appertaineth the dominion: for among all the wise men of the Gentiles, and in al their kingdomes there is none like thee.

राष्ट्रों का राजा, कौन हो सकता है वह जिसमें आपके प्रति श्रद्धा न होगी? वस्तुतः आप ही हैं इसके योग्य क्योंकि राष्ट्रों के सारे बुद्धिमानों के मध्य, तथा राष्ट्रों के सारे राज्यों में कोई भी नहीं है आपके तुल्य.

8 But, altogether they dote, and are foolish: for the stocke is a doctrine of vanitie.

किंतु वे पूर्णतः निर्बुद्धि एवं मूर्ख हैं; उनकी शिक्षाएं धोखे के सिवा और कुछ नहीं.

9 Siluer plates are brought from Tarshish, and golde from Vphaz, for the worke of the workeman, and the handes of the founder: the blewe silke, and the purple is their clothing: all these things are made by cunning men.

तरशीश से पीटी हुई चांदी तथा उपहाज़ से स्वर्ण लाया जाता है. शिल्पी एवं स्वर्णकार की हस्तकला हैं वे नीले और बैंगनी वस्त्र उन्हें पहनाए जाते हैं— ये सभी दक्ष शिल्पियों की कलाकृति-मात्र हैं.

10 But the Lord is the God of trueth: he is the liuing God, and an euerlasting King: at his anger the earth shall tremble, and the nations cannot abide his wrath.

किंतु याहवेह सत्य परमेश्वर हैं; वे अनंत काल के राजा हैं. उनके कोप के समक्ष पृथ्वी कांप उठती है; तथा राष्ट्रों के लिए उनका आक्रोश असह्य हो जाता है.

11 (Thus shall you say vnto them, The gods that haue not made the heauens and the earth, shall perish from the earth, and from vnder these heauens)

“उनसे तुम्हें यह कहना होगा: ‘वे देवता, जिन्होंने न तो आकाश की और न पृथ्वी की सृष्टि की है, वे पृथ्वी पर से तथा आकाश के नीचे से नष्ट कर दिए जाएंगे.’”

12 He hath made the earth by his power, and established the worlde by his wisedome, and hath stretched out the heauen by his discretion.

याहवेह ही हैं जिन्होंने अपने सामर्थ्य से पृथ्वी की सृष्टि की; जिन्होंने विश्व को अपनी बुद्धि द्वारा प्रतिष्ठित किया है, अपनी सूझ-बूझ से उन्होंने आकाश को विस्तीर्ण कर दिया.

13 Hee giueth by his voyce the multitude of waters in the heauen, and he causeth the cloudes to ascend from the endes of the earth: he turneth lightnings to rayne, and bringeth forth the winde out of his treasures.

उनके स्वर उच्चारण से आकाश के जल में हलचल मच जाती है; वही हैं जो चारों ओर से मेघों का आरोहण बनाया करते हैं. वह वृष्टि के लिए बिजली को अधीन करते हैं तथा अपने भण्डारगृह से पवन को चलाते हैं.

14 Euery man is a beast by his owne knowledge: euery founder is confounded by the grauen image: for his melting is but falsehood, and there is no breath therein.

हर एक मनुष्य मूर्ख है—ज्ञानहीन; हर एक स्वर्णशिल्पी अपनी ही कृति प्रतिमा द्वारा लज्जित किया जाता है. क्योंकि उसके द्वारा ढाली गई प्रतिमाएं धोखा हैं; उनमें जीवन-श्वास तो है ही नहीं.

15 They are vanitie, and the worke of errours: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

ये प्रतिमाएं सर्वथा व्यर्थ हैं, ये हास्यपद कृति हैं; जब उन पर दंड का अवसर आएगा, वे नष्ट हो जाएंगी.

16 The portion of Iaakob is not like them: for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the rodde of his inheritance: the Lord of hostes is his Name.

याहवेह जो याकोब की निधि हैं इनके सदृश नहीं हैं, क्योंकि वे सभी के सृष्टिकर्ता हैं, इस्राएल उन्हीं के इस निज भाग का कुल है— उनका नाम है सेनाओं का याहवेह.

17 Gather vp thy wares out of the land, O thou that dwellest in the strong place.

तुम, जो शत्रु द्वारा घिरे हुए जिए जा रहे हो, भूमि पर से अपनी गठरी उठा लो.

18 For thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, at this time I will throwe as with a sling the inhabitants of the lande, and will trouble them, and they shall finde it so.

क्योंकि याहवेह का संदेश यह है: “यह देख लेना कि मैं इस देश के निवासियों को इस समय प्रक्षेपित करने पर हूं; मैं उन पर विपत्तियां ले आऊंगा कि उन्हें वस्तुस्थिति का बोध हो जाए.”

19 Wo is me for my destruction, and my grieuous plague: but I thought, Yet it is my sorow, and I will beare it.

धिक्कार है मुझ पर! मैं निराश हो चुका हूं! असाध्य है मेरा घाव! किंतु मैंने विचार किया, “निश्चयतः यह एक रोग है, यह तो मुझे सहना ही होगा.”

20 My tabernacle is destroyed, and all my coardes are broken: my children are gone from me, and are not: there is none to spread out my tent any more, and to set vp my curtaines.

मेरा तंबू नष्ट हो चुका है; रस्सियां टूट चुकी हैं. मेरे पुत्र मुझे छोड़ चुके हैं, कोई भी न रहा; जो पुनः मेरे तंबू को खड़ा करे ऐसा कोई भी नहीं, जो इसमें पर्दे लटकाए.

21 For the Pastours are become beasts, and haue not sought the Lord: therefore haue they none vnderstanding: and all the flockes of their pastures are scattered.

कारण यह है कि चरवाहे मूर्ख हैं और उन्होंने याहवेह की बातें ज्ञात करना आवश्यक न समझा; इसलिये वे समृद्ध न हो सके और उनके सभी पशु इधर-उधर बिखर गए हैं.

22 Beholde, the noyse of the brute is come, and a great commotion out of the North countrey to make the cities of Iudah desolate, and a denne of dragons.

समाचार यह आ रहा है, कि वे आ रहे हैं— उत्तर दिशा के देश से घोर अशांति की आवाज! कि यहूदिया के नगरों को निर्जन तथा सियारों का बसेरा बना दिया जाए.

23 O Lord, I knowe, that the way of man is not in himselfe, neyther is it in man to walke and to direct his steps.

याहवेह, मैं उत्तम रीति से इस बात से अवगत हूं कि मनुष्य अपनी गतिविधियों को स्वयं नियंत्रित नहीं करता; न ही मनुष्य अपने कदम स्वयं संचालित कर सकता है.

24 O Lord, correct mee, but with iudgement, not in thine anger, least thou bring mee to nothing.

याहवेह मुझे अनुशासित करिये किंतु सही तरीके से— यह अपने क्रोध में न कीजिए, अन्यथा मैं तो मिट ही जाऊंगा.

25 Powre out thy wrath vpon the heathen, that knowe thee not, and vpon the families that call not on thy Name: for they haue eaten vp Iaakob and deuoured him and consumed him, and haue made his habitation desolate.

अपना कोप उन जनताओं पर उंडेल दीजिए जो आपको नहीं जानते तथा उन परिवारों पर भी, जो आपसे गिड़गिड़ाने नहीं देते. क्योंकि इन राष्ट्रों ने याकोब को समाप्‍त कर दिया है; उन्होंने याकोब को निगल कर उसे पूर्णतः नष्ट कर दिया है तथा उसके आवास को उजाड़ बना दिया है.
