Isaiah 8
1 Moreover, the Lord sayd vnto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a mans penne, Make speede to the spoyle: haste to the praye.
Et Yahweh me dit: « Prends une grande tablette, et écris-y en caractères lisibles à tous: Hâtez le pillage! Butinez vite! »
2 Then I tooke vnto me faithfull witnesses to recorde, Vriah the Priest, and Zechariah the sonne of Ieberechiah.
Et je pris avec moi des témoins dignes de foi, le prêtre Urie et Zacharie, fils de Jébarachie.
3 After, I came vnto the Prophetesse, which conceiued, and bare a sonne. Then sayd the Lord to me, Call his name, Mahershalalhash-baz.
Et je m’approchai de la prophétesse, et elle conçut et enfanta un fils. Et Yahweh me dit: « Appelle-le Maher-Schalal-Chasch-Baz.
4 For before the childe shall haue knowledge to crye, My father, and my mother, he shall take away the riches of Damascus and the spoyle of Samaria, before the King of Asshur.
Car avant que l’enfant sache crier: Mon père, ma mère! on portera les richesses de Damas et les dépouilles de Samarie devant le roi d’Assyrie. »
5 And the Lord spake yet againe vnto me, saying,
Yahweh me parla encore, en ces termes:
6 Because this people hath refused the waters of Shiloah that runne softly, and reioyce with Rezin, and the sonne of Remaliah,
« Parce que ce peuple a méprisé les eaux de Siloé qui coulent doucement, et qu’il se réjouit au sujet de Rasin et du fils de Romélie,
7 Nowe therefore, beholde, the Lord bringeth vp vpon them the waters of the Riuer mightie and great, euen the King of Asshur with all his glory, and he shall come vp vpon all their riuers, and goe ouer all their banks,
à cause de cela, voici que le Seigneur va faire venir sur eux les eaux du fleuve, fortes et profondes, le roi d’Assyrie et toute sa puissance. Il s’élèvera partout au-dessus de son lit, et se répandra par-dessus toutes ses rives;
8 And shall breake into Iudah, and shall ouerflowe and passe through, and shall come vp to the necke, and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanu-el.
il pénétrera en Juda, il débordera, il inondera, il montera jusqu’au cou; et le déploiement de ses ailes couvrira toute l’étendue de ton pays, ô Emmanuel. »
9 Gather together on heapes, O ye people, and ye shalbe broken in pieces, and hearken all ye of farre countreys: gird your selues, and you shalbe broken in pieces: gird your selues, and you shalbe broken in pieces.
Poussez des cris de guerre, peuples, et vous serez défaits! prêtez l’oreille, vous toutes, extrémités de la terre! Equipez-vous, et vous serez défaits! Equipez-vous, et vous serez défaits!
10 Take counsell together, yet it shall be brought to nought: pronounce a decree, yet shall it not stand: for God is with vs.
Formez des projets, et ils seront anéantis; donnez des ordres, et ils resteront sans effet; car Dieu est avec nous!
11 For the Lord spake thus to me in taking of mine hand, and taught me, that I should not walke in the way of this people, saying,
Car ainsi m’a parlé Yahweh, quand sa main me saisit et qu’il m’avertit de ne pas suivre la voie de ce peuple, en disant:
12 Say ye not, A confederacie to all them, to whome this people sayth a confederacie, neither feare you their feare, nor be afrayd of them.
« N’appelez pas conjuration tout ce que ce peuple appelle conjuration; ne craignez pas ce qu’il craint, et ne vous effrayez pas.
13 Sanctifie the Lord of hostes, and let him be your feare, and let him be your dread,
Yahweh des armées, c’est lui que vous sanctifierez, lui qui sera votre crainte et votre frayeur.
14 And he shalbe as a Sanctuarie: but as a stumbling stone, and as a rocke to fall vpon, to both the houses of Israel, and as a snare and as a net to the inhabitants of Ierusalem.
Et il sera un sanctuaire; mais aussi une pierre d’achoppement et un rocher de scandale pour les deux maisons d’Israël, un filet et un piège pour les habitants de Jérusalem.
15 And many among them shall stumble, and shall fall and shalbe broken and shalbe snared and shalbe taken.
Beaucoup d’entre eux trébucheront, ils tomberont et se briseront; ils seront enlacés et pris.
16 Binde vp the testimonie: seale vp the Law among my disciples.
Lie le témoignage, scelle l’enseignement dans le cœur de mes disciples. »
17 Therefore I will waite vpon the Lord that hath hid his face from the house of Iaakob, and I wil looke for him.
J’espère en Yahweh qui cache sa face à la maison de Jacob, et je me confie en lui.
18 Beholde, I and the children whome the Lord hath giuen me, are as signes and as wonders in Israel, by the Lord of hostes, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
Voici que moi et mes enfants que Dieu m’a donnés, nous sommes des signes et des présages en Israël, de la part de Yahweh des armées, qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.
19 And when they shall say vnto you, Enquire at them that haue a spirit of diuination, and at the soothsayers, which whisper and murmure, Should not a people enquire at their God? from the liuing to the dead?
Quand ils vous diront: « Consultez ceux qui évoquent les morts, et les devins qui murmurent et chuchotent, » répondez: « Un peuple ne doit-il pas consulter son Dieu? Consultera-t-il les morts pour les vivants?
20 To the Law, and to the testimonie, if they speake not according to this worde: it is because there is no light in them.
A l’enseignement et au témoignage! » Si le peuple tient un autre langage, il n’y a pas pour lui d’aurore.
21 Then he that is afflicted and famished, shall go to and from in it: and when he shalbe hungry, he shall euen freat himselfe, and curse his King and his gods, and shall looke vpward.
Il errera dans le pays, accablé de misère et affamé, et, quand il aura faim, il maudira, dans sa fureur, son roi et son Dieu.
22 And when he shall looke to the earth, beholde trouble, and darkenes, vexation and anguish, and he is driuen to darkenes.
Il élèvera ses regards en haut, et les abaissera vers la terre: et voici la détresse, l’obscurité, une sombre angoisse; il sera rejeté dans les ténèbres.
