< Isaiah 60 >
1 Arise, O Ierusalem: be bright, for thy light is come, and the glorie of the Lord is risen vpon thee.
Arise, shine, for your light has come, And the glory of YHWH has risen on you.
2 For beholde, darkenesse shall couer the earth, and grosse darkenesse the people: but the Lord shall arise vpon thee, and his glory shall be seene vpon thee.
For behold, the darkness covers the earth, And thick darkness the peoples, And YHWH rises on you, And His glory is seen on you.
3 And the Gentiles shall walke in thy light, and Kings at the brightnesse of thy rising vp.
And nations have come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 Lift vp thine eyes round about, and beholde: all these are gathered, and come to thee: thy sonnes shall come from farre, and thy daughters shalbe nourished at thy side.
“Lift up your eyes around and see, All of them have been gathered, they have come to you, Your sons come from afar, And your daughters are supported on the side.
5 Then thou shalt see and shine: thine heart shall be astonied and enlarged, because the multitude of the sea shalbe conuerted vnto thee, and the riches of the Gentiles shall come vnto thee.
Then you see, and have become bright, And your heart has been afraid and enlarged, For the multitude of the sea turn to you, The forces of nations come to you.
6 The multitude of camels shall couer thee: and the dromedaries of Midian and of Ephah: all they of Sheba shall come: they shall bring golde and incense, and shewe foorth the prayses of the Lord.
A multitude of camels covers you, Dromedaries of Midian and Ephah, All of them from Sheba come, They carry gold and frankincense, And they proclaim the praises of YHWH.
7 All the sheepe of Kedar shall be gathered vnto thee: the rammes of Nebaioth shall serue thee: they shall come vp to bee accepted vpon mine altar: and I will beautifie the house of my glorie.
All the flock of Kedar are gathered to you, The rams of Nebaioth serve you, They ascend My altar for acceptance, And I beautify the house of My beauty.
8 Who are these that flee like a cloude, and as the doues to their windowes?
Who [are] these—they fly as a thick cloud, And as doves to their windows?
9 Surely the yles shall waite for mee, and the shippes of Tarshish, as at the beginning, that they may bring thy sonnes from farre, and their siluer, and their golde with them, vnto the Name of the Lord thy God, and to the Holy one of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.
Surely islands wait for Me, And ships of Tarshish first, To bring your sons from afar, Their silver and their gold with them, To the Name of your God YHWH, And to the Holy One of Israel, Because He has beautified you.
10 And the sonnes of strangers shall builde vp thy walles, and their Kings shall minister vnto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my mercie I had compassion on thee.
And sons of a stranger have built your walls, And their kings serve you, For in My wrath I have struck you, And in My good pleasure I have pitied you.
11 Therefore thy gates shalbe open continually: neither day nor night shall they be shutte, that men may bring vnto thee the riches of the Gentiles, and that their Kings may be brought.
And your gates have continually opened, They are not shut by day and by night, To bring the force of nations to you, Even their kings are led.
12 For the nation and the kingdome, that will not serue thee, shall perish: and those nations shalbe vtterly destroyed.
For the nation and the kingdom that does not serve you perishes, Indeed, the nations are utterly desolated.
13 The glory of Lebanon shall come vnto thee, the firre tree, the elme and the boxe tree together, to beautifie the place of my Sanctuarie: for I will glorifie the place of my feete.
The glory of Lebanon comes to you, Fir, pine, and box together, To beautify the place of My sanctuary, And I make the place of My feet honorable.
14 The sonnes also of them that afflicted thee, shall come and bowe vnto thee: and all they that despised thee, shall fall downe at the soles of thy feete: and they shall call thee, The citie of the Lord, Zion of the Holy one of Israel.
And the sons of those afflicting you Have come to you, bowing down, And all despising you Have bowed themselves to the soles of your feet, And they have cried to you: The City of YHWH, Zion of the Holy One of Israel!
15 Where as thou hast bene forsaken and hated: so that no man went by thee, I will make thee an eternall glorie, and a ioye from generation to generation.
Instead of your being forsaken and hated, And none passing through, I have made you for a continuous excellence, A joy of generation and generation.
16 Thou shalt also sucke ye milke of the Gentiles, and shalt sucke the breastes of Kings: and thou shalt know, that I the Lord am thy Sauiour, and thy Redeemer, the mightie one of Iaakob.
And you have sucked the milk of nations, Indeed, you suckle the breast of kings, And you have known that I, YHWH, Your Savior, and Your Redeemer, [Am] the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 For brasse will I bring golde, and for yron will I bring siluer, and for wood brasse, and for stones yron. I will also make thy gouernement peace, and thine exactours righteousnesse.
Instead of the bronze I bring in gold, And instead of the iron I bring in silver, And instead of the wood bronze, And instead of the stone iron, And I have made your inspection peace, And your exactors righteousness.
18 Violence shall no more be heard of in thy land, neither desolation, nor destruction within thy borders: but thou shalt call saluation, thy walles, and praise, thy gates.
Violence is not heard in your land anymore, Spoiling and destruction in your borders, And you have called your walls Salvation, And your gates Praise.
19 Thou shalt haue no more sunne to shine by day, neither shall the brightnesse of the moone shine vnto thee: for the Lord shall be thine euerlasting light, and thy God, thy glorie.
The sun is no longer your light by day, And for brightness the moon does not give light to you, And YHWH has become to you A continuous light, and your God your beauty.
20 Thy sunne shall neuer goe downe, neither shall thy moone be hid: for the Lord shalbe thine euerlasting light, and the dayes of thy sorowe shalbe ended.
Your sun goes in no more, And your moon is not removed, For YHWH becomes a continuous light to you. And the days of your mourning have been completed.
21 Thy people also shalbe all righteous: they shall possesse the land for euer, the grasse of my planting shalbe the worke of mine handes, that I may be glorified.
And all your people [are] righteous, They possess the earth for all time, A branch of My planting, A work of My hands, to be beautified.
22 A litle one shall become as a thousande, and a small one as a strong nation: I the Lord wil hasten it in due time.
The little one becomes a chief, And the small one a mighty nation, I, YHWH, hurry it in its own time!”
