Isaiah 44
1 Yet nowe heare, O Iaakob my seruant, and Israel, whom I haue chosen.
Et maintenant écoute, Jacob mon serviteur; et toi, Israël, que j’ai choisi,
2 Thus sayeth the Lord, that made thee, and formed thee from the wombe: he wil helpe thee. Feare not, O Iaakob, my seruaunt, and thou righteous, whome I haue chosen.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur qui t’a fait et formé, dès le sein de ta mère, ton aide: Ne crains point, Jacob mon serviteur, et toi le très juste, que j’ai choisi.
3 For I will powre water vpon the thirstie, and floods vpon the drie grounde: I will powre my Spirit vpon thy seede, and my blessing vpon thy buddes.
Car je répandrai des eaux sur un sol altéré, et des ruisseaux sur une terre aride; je répandrai mon esprit sur ta postérité, et ma bénédiction sur ta race.
4 And they shall grow as among the grasse, and as the willowes by the riuers of waters.
Et elles germeront parmi les herbes, comme des saules sur des eaux courantes.
5 One shall say, I am the Lordes: another shalbe called by the name of Iaakob: and another shall subscribe with his hand vnto the Lord, and name himselfe by the name of Israel.
Celui-ci dira: Moi je suis au Seigneur; et celui-là prendra le nom de Jacob; et un autre écrira de sa main: Au Seigneur; et par le nom, à Israël il sera assimilé.
6 Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel and his redeemer, the Lord of hostes, I am the first, and I am the last, and without me is there no God.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, le roi d’Israël, et son rédempteur, le Seigneur des armées: Je suis le premier et je suis le dernier; et hors moi il n’y a point de Dieu.
7 And who is like me, that shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order before me, since I appointed the ancient people? and what is at hand, and what things are to come? let them shewe vnto them.
Qui est semblable à moi? qu’il appelle et qu’il annonce; et qu’il m’expose la série des choses, depuis que j’ai fondé un peuple antique; qu’ils leur annoncent les choses à venir et celles qui doivent être.
8 Feare ye not, neither be afraide: haue not I tolde thee of olde, and haue declared it? you are euen my witnesses, whether there be a God beside me, and that there is no God that I knowe not.
Ne craignez pas, ne soyez pas troublés; dès lors je t’ai fait entendre, et je t’ai annoncé: C’est vous qui êtes mes témoins. Est-ce qu’il y a un Dieu hors moi, et un créateur que moi je n’ai pas connu?
9 All they that make an image, are vanitie, and their delectable things shall nothing profite: and they are their owne witnesses, that they see not nor know: therefore they shalbe confounded.
Tous les fabricateurs d’idoles ne sont rien, et leurs œuvres qu’ils estiment le plus ne leur seront pas utiles; eux-mêmes sont témoins qu’elles ne voient pas, et qu’elles ne comprennent pas; en sorte qu’ils sont confondus.
10 Who hath made a god, or molten an image, that is profitable for nothing?
Qui a formé un dieu, et a jeté en fonte une image qui n’est utile à rien?
11 Beholde, all that are of the fellowship thereof, shall be confounded: for the workemen themselues are men: let them all be gathered together, and stand vp, yet they shall feare, and be confounded together.
Voici que tous ceux qui y ont pris part seront confondus; car ces artisans sont des hommes; ils se réuniront tous, ils se présenteront, et ils auront peur, et seront confondus tous ensemble.
12 The smith taketh an instrument, and worketh in the coles, and facioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his armes: yea, he is an hungred, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.
Le forgeron a travaillé avec une lime; au moyen de charbons ardents et de marteaux il a formé l’idole, et il a travaillé de son bras vigoureux; il aura faim et il défaillira; il ne boira pas d’eau et il sera épuisé.
13 The carpenter stretcheth out a line: he facioneth it with a red thread, he planeth it, and he purtreyeth it with the compasse, and maketh it after the figure of a man, and according to the beautie of a man that it may remaine in an house.
Le sculpteur en bois a étendu la règle; il a formé l’idole avec le rabot; il l’a dressée à l’équerre, et l’a contournée avec le compas: et il a fait l’image d’un homme, représentant un bel homme, habitant dans une maison.
14 He will hewe him downe cedars, and take the pine tree and the oke, and taketh courage among the trees of the forest: he planteth a firre tree, and the raine doeth nourish it.
Il a coupé des cèdres, il a pris un chêne vert, et un chêne qui avait été parmi les arbres d’une forêt; et il a planté un pin que la pluie a nourri.
15 And man burneth thereof: for he will take thereof and warme himselfe: he also kindleth it and baketh bread, yet he maketh a god, and worshippeth it: he maketh it an idole and boweth vnto it.
Et les hommes s’en sont servis pour le feu; il en a pris lui-même et il s’est chauffé; et il y a mis le feu, et il a cuit des pains; mais avec le reste il a façonné un dieu, et l’a adoré; il a fait une image taillée au ciseau, et il s’est courbé devant elle.
16 He burneth the halfe thereof euen in the fire, and vpon the halfe thereof he eateth flesh: he rosteth the roste and is satisfied: also he warmeth himselfe and sayth, Aha, I am warme, I haue bene at the fire.
Il a brûlé au feu une moitié de bois, et de son autre moitié il a préparé des viandes pour manger; il en a préparé un mets, et il s’en est rassasié; il s’est chauffé et a dit: Ah! je me suis chauffé, j’ai vu le feu.
17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, euen his idole: he boweth vnto it, and worshippeth and prayeth vnto it, and sayeth, Deliuer me: for thou art my god.
Mais de son reste il fait un dieu et une idole; il se courbe devant elle, l’adore et la prie et la supplie, disant: Délivrez-moi, parce que mon Dieu, c’est vous.
18 They haue not knowen, nor vnderstand: for God hath shut their eyes that they cannot see, and their heartes, that they cannot vnderstand.
Ils n’ont pas su, ils n’ont pas compris; car leurs yeux sont couverts d’un enduit, en sorte que leurs yeux ne voient pas et que leur cœur ne comprend pas.
19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor vnderstanding to say, I haue burnt halfe of it, euen in the fire, and haue baked bread also vpon the coles thereof: I haue rosted flesh, and eaten it, and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I bowe to the stocke of a tree?
Ils ne réfléchissent pas en leur esprit, et ils n’ont pas assez de sens pour dire: J’ai brûlé la moitié de ce bois au feu, et j’ai cuit sur ses charbons des pains; j’ai cuit des viandes et j’ai mangé, et du reste ferai-je une idole? devant un tronc d’arbre me prosternerai-je?
20 He feedeth of ashes: a seduced heart hath deceiued him, that he cannot deliuer his soule, nor say, Is there not a lye in my right hand?
Une partie de ce bois est de la cendre; un cœur insensé a adoré l’idole, et il ne délivrera pas son âme, et il ne dira pas: Peut-être qu’il y a un mensonge dans ma main droite.
21 Remember these (O Iaakob and Israel) for thou art my seruant: I haue formed thee: thou art my seruant: O Israel forget me not.
Souviens-toi de ces choses, Jacob, et toi, Israël, parce que mon serviteur, c’est toi; je t’ai formé, mon serviteur; c’est toi, Israël, ne m’oublie pas.
22 I haue put away thy transgressions like a cloude, and thy sinnes, as a mist: turne vnto me, for I haue redeemed thee.
J’ai effacé comme un nuage tes iniquités, et comme une vapeur tes péchés; reviens à moi, parce que je t’ai racheté.
23 Reioyce, ye heauens: for the Lord hath done it: shoute, ye lower partes of the earth: brast foorth into prayses, ye mountaines, O forest and euery tree therein: for the Lord hath redeemed Iaakob and will be glorified in Israel.
Louez, cieux, parce que le Seigneur a fait miséricorde; jubilez, extrémités de la terre, faites retentir la louange, montagnes, forêts, et tous ses arbres, parce que le Seigneur a racheté Jacob, et qu’Israël se glorifiera.
24 Thus sayeth the Lord thy redeemer and he that formed thee from the wombe, I am the Lord, that made all things, that spred out the heauens alone, and stretched out the earth by my selfe.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur ton rédempteur, et qui t’a formé dès le sein de ta mère: Je suis le Seigneur, faisant toutes choses, seul étendant les cieux, affermissant la terre, et nul n’est avec moi.
25 I destroy the tokens of ye southsayers, and make them that coniecture, fooles, and turne the wise men backwarde, and make their knowledge foolishnesse.
Rendant sans effet les présages des devins, et jetant les magiciens dans la fureur. Faisant tourner les sages en arrière, et rendant leur science insensée.
26 He confirmeth the worde of his seruant and performeth the counsell of his messengers, saying to Ierusalem, Thou shalt bee inhabited: and to the cities of Iudah, Yee shall be built vp, and I will repayre the decayed places thereof.
Suscitant la parole de son serviteur, et accomplissant les conseils de ses messagers. Moi qui dis à Jérusalem: Tu seras habitée, et aux cités de Juda: Vous serez édifiées, et à ses déserts, je donnerai la vie.
27 He saith to the deepe, Be drye and I will drye vp thy floods.
Moi qui dis à l’abîme: Sois détruit, et je mettrai tes fleuves à sec.
28 He saith to Cyrus, Thou art my shepheard: and he shall performe all my desire: saying also to Ierusalem, Thou shalt be built: and to the Temple, Thy foundation shall be surely layed.
Moi, qui dis à Cyrus: Tu es mon pasteur, et tu accompliras toute ma volonté. Moi, qui dis à Jérusalem: Tu seras édifiée; et au temple: Tu seras fondé.
