Isaiah 40
1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, will your God say.
Consolez, consolez mon peuple, dit le Seigneur;
2 Speake comfortably to Ierusalem, and crye vnto her, that her warrefare is accomplished, that her iniquitie is pardoned: for she hath receiued of the Lords hand double for all her sinnes.
Prêtres, parlez au cœur de Jérusalem; consolez-la, car son humiliation est accomplie; son péché lui est remis, parce qu'elle a reçu de la main du Seigneur un châtiment double de ses péchés.
3 A voyce cryeth in the wildernesse, Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make streight in the desert a path for our God.
On entend la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Préparez la voie du Seigneur, redressez les sentiers de notre Dieu.
4 Euery valley shall be exalted, and euery mountaine and hill shall be made lowe: and the crooked shalbe streight, and the rough places plaine.
Toute vallée sera remplie, toute montagne sera abaissée; les chemins tortueux seront redressés, ceux qui étaient raboteux seront aplanis.
5 And the glory of the Lord shalbe reueiled, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Et la gloire du Seigneur se manifestera, et toute chair verra le salut de Dieu; car le Seigneur a parlé.
6 A voyce saide, Crie. And he saide, What shall I crie? All flesh is grasse, and all the grace thereof is as the floure of the fielde.
Une voix m'a dit: Crie; et j'ai répondu: Que crierai-je? Toute chair est de l'herbe; toute gloire humaine est comme la fleur des champs.
7 The grasse withereth, the floure fadeth, because the Spirite of the Lord bloweth vpon it: surely the people is grasse.
L'herbe s'est desséchée, et la fleur est tombée.
8 The grasse withereth, the floure fadeth: but the worde of our God shall stand for euer.
Mais la parole de notre Dieu subsistera dans tous les siècles.
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee vp into the hie mountaine: O Ierusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift vp thy voyce with strength: lift it vp, be not afraide: say vnto the cities of Iudah, Beholde your God.
Ô toi qui annonce à Sion la bonne nouvelle, monte sur le sommet de la montagne; élève la voix de toutes tes forces, toi qui annonce à Jérusalem la bonne nouvelle; dis-leur: Glorifiez-vous, ne craignez point; dis aux villes de Juda: Voilà votre Dieu.
10 Beholde, the Lord God will come with power, and his arme shall rule for him: beholde, his rewarde is with him, and his worke before him,
Voilà le Seigneur, le Seigneur vient avec la force, son bras a la puissance; voilà dans ses mains le salaire, et l'œuvre est devant ses yeux.
11 He shall feede his flocke like a shepheard: he shall gather the lambes with his arme, and cary them in his bosome, and shall guide them with young.
Il fera paître son troupeau comme un pasteur; il rassemblera les agneaux, et il encouragera les brebis pleines.
12 Who hath measured the waters in his fist? and counted heauen with the spanne, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure? and weighed ye mountaines in a weight, and the hilles in a balance?
Qui a mesuré les eaux à la main, le ciel à la palme, et toute la terre à la poignée? Qui a placé les montagnes dans une balance? Qui a pesé les forêts?
13 Who hath instructed ye Spirit of the Lord? or was his counseler or taught him?
Qui sait la pensée du Seigneur? Qui a tenu conseil avec lui pour l'instruire?
14 Of whom tooke he counsell, and who instructed him and taught him in the way of iudgement? or taught him knowledge, and shewed vnto him the way of vnderstanding?
Avec qui a-t-il tenu conseil, et qui l'a instruit? Qui lui a enseigné le jugement? Qui lui a montré la voie de la sagesse?
15 Beholde, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the dust of the balance: beholde, he taketh away the yles as a litle dust.
Est-ce que toutes les nations ne sont pas à ses yeux comme la goutte d'eau qui s'échappe du vase? comme l'oscillation d'une balance? Ne seront- elles pas à ses yeux comme un peu de salive?
16 And Lebanon is not sufficient for fire, nor the beastes thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
Le Liban ne suffirait pas pour un bûcher; tous les quadrupèdes ne suffiraient pas pour un holocauste.
17 All nations before him are as nothing, and they are counted to him, lesse then nothing, and vanitie.
Toutes les nations sont comme un néant; elles sont comptées comme un néant à ses yeux.
18 To whom then wil ye liken God? or what similitude will ye set vp vnto him?
A qui avez-vous comparé le Seigneur? A quel simulacre l'avez-vous assimilé?
19 The workeman melteth an image, or the goldsmith beateth it out in golde, or the goldesmith maketh siluer plates.
Est-ce qu'un artisan a jamais fait son image? Est-ce qu'un fondeur, en jetant de l'or dans un moule, l'a fait en or et a reproduit sa ressemblance?
20 Doeth not the poore chuse out a tree that will not rot, for an oblation? he seeketh also vnto him a cunning workeman, to prepare an image, that shall not be moued.
L'ouvrier a choisi un bois incorruptible; puis il cherche avec soin de quelle manière il posera sa statue, pour qu'elle ne soit point ébranlée.
21 Know ye nothing? haue ye not heard it? hath it not bene tolde you from the beginning? haue ye not vnderstand it by the foundation of the earth?
Ne savez-vous pas cela? Ne l'avez-vous pas ouï dire? Ne vous l'a-t-on pas appris dès le commencement? Ne connaissez-vous pas les fondements de la terre?
22 He sitteth vpon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grashoppers, hee stretcheth out ye heauens, as a curtaine, and spreadeth them out, as a tent to dwell in.
C'est lui qui tient dans sa main le cercle de la terre, et, comme une nuée de sauterelles, tous ceux qui l'habitent. C'est lui qui a posé les cieux comme une voûte, et qui les a tendus comme la tente où l'on s'abrite.
23 He bringeth the princes to nothing, and maketh the iudges of the earth, as vanitie,
C'est lui par qui règnent les princes, qui sont comme un néant devant lui. C'est lui qui a créé la terre et la regarde comme un néant.
24 As though they were not plated, as though they were not sowen, as though their stocke tooke no roote in the earth: for he did euen blow vpon them, and they withered, and the whirlewinde will take them away as stubble.
Car ces princes ne planteront pas, ils ne sèmeront pas, et leur racine ne prendra pas en terre. Il a soufflé sur eux, et ils se sont desséchés; la tempête les emportera comme des broussailles.
25 To whom nowe will ye liken me, that I should be like him, saith the Holy one?
Maintenant donc, à qui m'avez-vous comparé, pour que je m'en glorifie? dit le Saint.
26 Lift vp your eyes on hie, and beholde who hath created these things, and bringeth out their armies by nomber, and calleth them all by names? by the greatnesse of his power and mightie strength nothing faileth.
Levez les yeux et voyez; qui vous a montré toutes ces choses? C'est celui qui a produit les innombrables ornements des cieux qui dans sa gloire les appelle tous par leur nom, et qui, dans la plénitude de sa puissance, ne vous a rien caché.
27 Why sayest thou, O Iaakob, and speakest O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my iudgement is passed ouer of my God?
Et toi, qu'as-tu dit, Jacob? Pourquoi as-tu ainsi parlé, Israël? Ma voix est ignorée de Dieu, et mon Dieu m'a retiré sa justice, et il s'est éloigné.
28 Knowest thou not? or hast thou not heard, that the euerlasting God, the Lord hath created the endes of the earth? he neither fainteth, nor is wearie: there is no searching of his vnderstanding.
Et maintenant n'as-tu pas appris, n'as-tu pas entendu? Dieu, c'est l'Éternel; c'est Dieu qui a assigné des limites à la terre; il ne sentira jamais la faim ni la fatigue; et il n'y a pas à pénétrer sa sagesse.
29 But he giueth strength vnto him that fainteth, and vnto him that hath no strength, he encreaseth power.
C'est lui qui donne la force aux affamés, et non la tristesse à ceux qui sont dans la douleur.
30 Euen the yong men shall faint, and be wearie, and the yong men shall stumble and fall.
Car les adolescents auront faim, les jeunes gens seront fatigués, les hommes d'élite seront affaiblis.
31 But they that waite vpon the Lord, shall renue their strength: they shall lift vp the wings as the eagles: they shall runne, and not be wearie, and they shall walke and not faint.
Mais ceux qui attendent le Seigneur trouveront des forces nouvelles; il leur poussera des ailes comme aux aiglons; ils courront, et ne seront point fatigués; ils marcheront, et n'auront pas faim.
