Isaiah 37
1 And when the King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth and came into the House of the Lord.
Et il arriva que lorsque le roi Ezéchias les eut entendues, il déchira ses vêtements, et se couvrit d’un sac, et entra dans la maison du Seigneur.
2 And he sent Eliakim the stewarde of the house, aud Shebna the chanceller, with the Elders of the Priestes, clothed in sackcloth vnto Isaiah the Prophet, the sonne of Amoz.
Et il envoya Eliacim qui était intendant dans la maison, et Sobna, le scribe, et les plus anciens d’entre les prêtres, couverts de sacs, vers Isaïe, le prophète, fils d’Amos,
3 And they sayd vnto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of tribulation and of rebuke and blasphemie: for the children are come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring foorth.
Et ils lui dirent: Voici ce qu’a dit Ezéchias: Jour de tribulation, de reproche et de blasphème, est ce jour-ci, parce que des enfants sont venus jusqu’à l’enfantement, et la force manque à la mère pour enfanter.
4 If so be the Lord thy God hath heard the wordes of Rabshakeh, whom the King of Asshur his master hath sent to raile on the liuing God, and to reproch him with wordes which the Lord thy God hath heard, then lift thou vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
Peut-être que le Seigneur ton Dieu entendra les paroles de Rabsacès qu’a envoyé le roi des Assyriens son maître pour blasphémer le Dieu vivant, et pour l’insulter par les paroles qu’a entendues le Seigneur ton Dieu; fais donc monter une prière pour les restes qui ont été retrouvés.
5 So the seruants of the King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
Et les serviteurs du roi Ezéchias vinrent vers Isaïe,
6 And Isaiah sayde vnto them, Thus say vnto your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afrayd of the wordes that thou hast heard, wherewith the seruants of the king of Asshur haue blasphemed me.
Et Isaïe leur dit: Vous direz ceci à votre maître: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ne crains point à cause des paroles que tu as entendues, par lesquelles m’ont blasphémé les serviteurs du roi des Assyriens.
7 Beholde, I wil send a blast vpon him, and he shall heare a noyse, and returne to his owne land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his owne land.
Voilà que moi je lui enverrai un esprit de frayeur; il apprendra une nouvelle, et il retournera dans sa terre, et je le ferai tomber par le glaive dans sa terre.
8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the King of Asshur fighting against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
Or Rabsacès s’en retourna, et trouva le roi des Assyriens formant le siège de Lobna. Car il avait appris qu’il était parti de Lachis,
9 He heard also men say of Tirhakah, King of Ethiopia, Beholde, he is come out to fight against thee: and when he heard it, he sent other messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
Et Sennachérib entendit, au sujet de Tharaca, roi d’Ethiopie, des gens disant: Il est sorti pour combattre contre vous. Ce qu’ayant entendu, il envoya des messagers à Ezéchias, en disant:
10 Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, saying, Let not thy God deceiue thee, in whom thou trustest, saying, Ierusalem shall not be giuen into the hand of the King of Asshur.
Vous direz ceci à Ezéchias, roi de Juda: Qu’il ne vous trompe pas, votre Dieu, en qui vous vous confiez, disant: Jérusalem, ne sera pas livrée à la main du roi des Assyriens.
11 Beholde, thou hast heard what the Kings of Asshur haue done to all lands in destroying them, and shalt thou be deliuered?
Voilà que vous-même vous avez appris tout ce qu’ont fait les rois des Assyriens à tous les pays qu’ils ont détruits; et vous, vous pourrez échapper?
12 Haue the gods of the nations deliuered them, which my fathers haue destroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were at Telassar?
Est-ce que les dieux des nations ont délivré ceux qu’ont détruits mes pères, c’est-à-dire Gozam, et Haram, et Réseph, et les fils d’Eden qui étaient en Thalassar?
13 Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the citie of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah?
Où est le roi d’Emath, et le roi d’Arphad, et le roi de la ville de Sépharvaïm, d’Ana et d’Ava?
14 So Hezekiah receiued the letter of the hand of the messengers and read it, and he went vp into the House of the Lord, and Hezekiah spread it before the Lord.
Et Ezéchias reçut les livres de la main des messagers, et les lut, et il monta à la maison du Seigneur, et Ezéchias les étendit devant le Seigneur.
15 And Hezekiah prayed vnto the Lord, saying,
Et Ezéchias pria le Seigneur, disant:
16 O Lord of hostes, God of Israel, which dwellest betweene the Cherubims, thou art very God alone ouer all the kingdomes of the earth: thou hast made the heauen and the earth.
Seigneur des armées, Dieu d’Israël, qui êtes assis sur les chérubins, c’est vous qui êtes seul Dieu de tous les royaumes de la terre, c’est vous qui avez fait le ciel et la terre.
17 Encline thine eare, O Lord, and heare: open thine eyes, O Lord, and see, and heare all the wordes of Saneherib, who hath sent to blaspheme the liuing God.
Inclinez, Seigneur, votre oreille, et écoutez; ouvrez, Seigneur, vos yeux, et voyez, et écoutez toutes les paroles de Sennachérib, qu’il a envoyées pour blasphémer le Dieu vivant.
18 Trueth it is, O Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed all lands, and their countrey,
Car il est vrai, Seigneur, les rois des Assyriens ont rendu déserts les pays et leurs contrées.
19 And haue cast their gods in ye fire: for they were no gods, but the worke of mans hands, euen wood or stone: therefore they destroyed them.
Ils ont jeté leurs dieux au feu; car ce n’étaient pas des dieux, mais des ouvrages de mains d’hommes, du bois et de la pierre; et ils les ont mis en pièces.
20 Nowe therefore, O Lord our God, saue thou vs out of his hand, that all the kingdomes of the earth may knowe, that thou onely art the Lord.
Et maintenant, Seigneur notre Dieu, sauvez-nous de sa main; et qu’ils sachent, tous les royaumes de la terre, que c’est vous qui êtes le seul Seigneur.
21 Then Isaiah the sonne of Amoz sent vnto Hezekiah, saying, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Because thou hast prayed vnto me, concerning Saneherib king of Asshur,
Et Isaïe, fils d’Amos, envoya vers Ezéchias, disant: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël: À l’égard de ce que tu m’as demandé touchant Sennachérib, roi d’Assyrie,
22 This is the worde that the Lord hath spoken against him, the virgine, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne: the daughter of Ierusalem, hath shaken her head at thee.
Voici la parole que le Seigneur a dite à son sujet: Elle t’a méprisé, et elle t’a raillé, la vierge, fille de Sion; derrière toi elle a secoué la tête, la fille de Jérusalem.
23 Whome hast thou railed on and blasphemed? and against whome hast thou exalted thy voyce, and lifted vp thine eyes on hie? euen against the holy one of Israel.
Qui as-tu insulté, qui as-tu blasphémé, et contre qui as-tu élevé la voix, et porté en haut tes yeux? Contre le saint d’Israël.
24 By thy seruants hast thou railed on the Lord, and sayd, By the multitude of my charets I am come vp to the top of the mountaines to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut downe the hie cedars thereof, and the faire firre trees thereof, and I will goe vp to the heightes of his top and to the forest of his fruitfull places.
Par l’entremise de tes serviteurs tu as insulté le Seigneur, et tu as dit: Avec la multitude de mes quadriges, moi je suis monté sur la hauteur des montagnes, les chaînes du Liban; je couperai les cimes de ses cèdres, et ses plus beaux sapins, et je pénétrerai jusqu’à la pointe de son sommet, jusqu’à la forêt de son Carmel.
25 I haue digged and drunke the waters, and with the plant of my feete haue I dryed all the riuers closed in.
C’est moi qui ai creusé des sources, et j’ai bu de l’eau, et j’ai séché par la trace de mon pied toutes les rivières retenues par des digues.
26 Hast thou not heard howe I haue of olde time made it, and haue formed it long ago? and should I now bring it, that it should be destroyed, and layde on ruinous heapes, as cities defensed?
N’as-tu donc pas ouï dire les choses qu’autrefois j’y ai faites? dès les temps anciens, c’est moi qui ai disposé cela; et maintenant je l’ai amené et accompli en détruisant les collines qui s’entrechoquent et les cités fortifiées.
27 Whose inhabitants haue small power, and are afrayd and confounded: they are like the grasse of the field and greene herbe, or grasse on the house tops, or corne blassed afore it be growen.
Leurs habitants, à la main raccourcie, ont tremblé et ont été confondus; ils sont devenus comme le foin d’un champ et le gazon d’un pâturage, et l’herbe des toits, qui a séché avant qu’elle fût mûre.
28 But I know thy dwelling, and thy going out, and thy comming in, and thy fury against me.
Ton habitation, et ta sortie, et ton entrée, je les ai connues, ainsi que ta fureur extravagante contre moi.
29 Because thou ragest against me, and thy tumult is come vnto mine eares, therefore will I put mine hooke in thy nostrels, and my bridle in thy lips, and wil bring thee backe againe the same way thou camest.
Lorsque tu étais furieux contre moi, ton orgueil est monté à mes oreilles; je mettrai donc un cercle à tes narines, et un mors à ta bouche, et je te ramènerai par la voie par laquelle tu es venu.
30 And this shalbe a signe vnto thee, O Hezekiah, Thou shalt eate this yeere such as groweth of it selfe: and the second yeere, such things as growe without sowing: and in the third yeere, sowe ye and reape, and plant vineyards, and eate the fruite thereof.
Mais pour toi, Ezéchias, voici un signe: Mange cette année de ce qui naîtra de soi-même, et en la seconde année nourris-toi de fruits; mais en la troisième année, semez et moissonnez, et plantez des vignes, et mangez-en le fruit.
31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Iudah, shall againe take roote downward and beare fruite vpward.
Et ce qui sera sauvé de la maison de Juda, et ce qui est resté, jettera racine en bas, et fera du fruit en haut;
32 For out of Ierusalem shall goe a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the Lord of hostes shall doe this.
Parce que de Jérusalem sortiront des restes, et ce qui sera sauvé de la montagne de Sion; le zèle du Seigneur des armées fera cela.
33 Therefore thus sayth the Lord, concerning the King of Asshur, He shall not enter into this citie, nor shoote an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a mount against it.
À cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur du roi des Assyriens: Il n’entrera pas dans cette cité, il n’y lancera pas de flèche, et pas un bouclier ne l’occupera, et il n’élèvera pas de terrasse autour d’elle.
34 By the same way that he came, he shall returne, and not come into this citie, saith the Lord.
Il retournera par la voie par laquelle il est venu; il n’entrera pas dans cette cité, dit le Seigneur;
35 For I will defend this citie to saue it, for mine owne sake, and for my seruant Dauids sake.
Et je protégerai cette cité, afin que je la sauve à cause de moi et à cause de David, mon serviteur.
36 Then the Angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the campe of Asshur an hundreth, fourescore, and fiue thousand: so when they arose early in the morning, beholde, they were all dead corpses.
Or un ange du Seigneur sortit et frappa dans le camp des Assyriens cent quatre-vingt-cinq mille hommes. On se leva le matin, et voici que tous étaient des corps de morts.
37 So Saneherib king of Asshur departed, and went away and returned and dwelt at Nineueh.
Et il partit, et il s’en alla, et il retourna, Sennachérib, roi des Assyriens, et il habita à Ninive.
38 And as he was in the temple worshipping of Nisroch his god, Adramelech and Sharezer his sonnes slewe him with the sword, and they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his sonne reigned in his steade.
Et il arriva que, comme il adorait dans le temple de Nesroch, son dieu, Adramélech et Sarasar ses fils le frappèrent du glaive et s’enfuirent dans la terre d’Ararat, et Asarhaddon son fils régna en sa place.
