Isaiah 37
1 And when the King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth and came into the House of the Lord.
Lorsque le roi Ézéchias les eut ouïs, il déchira ses vêtements, se couvrit d'un cilice, et alla au temple du Seigneur.
2 And he sent Eliakim the stewarde of the house, aud Shebna the chanceller, with the Elders of the Priestes, clothed in sackcloth vnto Isaiah the Prophet, the sonne of Amoz.
Et il envoya, couverts de cilices, l'économe Éliacim, et le scribe Somna, et les anciens des prêtres, auprès du prophète Isaïe, fils d'Amos.
3 And they sayd vnto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of tribulation and of rebuke and blasphemie: for the children are come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring foorth.
Et ils lui dirent: Voici ce que dit Ézéchias: Ce jour est un jour d'affliction et d'opprobre, de reproches et de colère; car les douleurs de l'enfantement sont venues à la femme, mais elle n'a pas la force d'enfanter.
4 If so be the Lord thy God hath heard the wordes of Rabshakeh, whom the King of Asshur his master hath sent to raile on the liuing God, and to reproch him with wordes which the Lord thy God hath heard, then lift thou vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
Puisse le Seigneur ton Dieu entendre les paroles de Rabsacès, que le roi des Assyriens a envoyé pour outrager le Dieu vivant et le blasphémer par les paroles que le Seigneur ton Dieu a entendues; et prie le Seigneur ton Dieu pour ce qui reste encore des siens.
5 So the seruants of the King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
Et les serviteurs du roi Ézéchias vinrent auprès d'Isaïe;
6 And Isaiah sayde vnto them, Thus say vnto your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afrayd of the wordes that thou hast heard, wherewith the seruants of the king of Asshur haue blasphemed me.
Et le prophète leur dit: Dites à votre maître: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ne crains pas les paroles de blasphème que tu as entendues des envoyés du roi des Assyriens.
7 Beholde, I wil send a blast vpon him, and he shall heare a noyse, and returne to his owne land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his owne land.
Voilà que je mets en lui un esprit; il va apprendre une nouvelle, et il retournera en son royaume, et il périra par le glaive en son royaume.
8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the King of Asshur fighting against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
Et Rabsacès s'en retourna, et il rejoignit le roi des Assyriens qui assiégeait Lobna, et il avait oui dire qu'il était parti de Lachis.
9 He heard also men say of Tirhakah, King of Ethiopia, Beholde, he is come out to fight against thee: and when he heard it, he sent other messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
Et Tharaca, roi d'Éthiopie, se mit en campagne pour le combattre; et l'ayant su, il partit, et il envoya des messagers à Ézéchias, disant:
10 Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, saying, Let not thy God deceiue thee, in whom thou trustest, saying, Ierusalem shall not be giuen into the hand of the King of Asshur.
Voici ce que vous direz à Ézéchias, roi de la Judée: Que ton Dieu, en qui tu as mis ta confiance, ne te trompe pas, en te disant: Jérusalem ne sera pas livrée au roi des Assyriens.
11 Beholde, thou hast heard what the Kings of Asshur haue done to all lands in destroying them, and shalt thou be deliuered?
Ne sais-tu pas de quelle manière les rois des Assyriens ont traité toutes les contrées qu'ils ont détruites? Et toi, tu leur échapperais!
12 Haue the gods of the nations deliuered them, which my fathers haue destroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were at Telassar?
Est-ce que les dieux des nations, que nos pères ont anéanties, les ont sauvés? ont-ils sauvé Gozan, Harran et Rapheth, qui sont dans la terre de Théémath?
13 Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the citie of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah?
Où sont les rois d'Émath? Où sont ceux d'Arphath et de la ville d'Eppharvam, et d'Anagougana?
14 So Hezekiah receiued the letter of the hand of the messengers and read it, and he went vp into the House of the Lord, and Hezekiah spread it before the Lord.
Et Ézéchias prit la lettre de Sennachérib des mains des messagers, et il l'ouvrit devant le Seigneur.
15 And Hezekiah prayed vnto the Lord, saying,
Et Ézéchias pria le Seigneur, disant:
16 O Lord of hostes, God of Israel, which dwellest betweene the Cherubims, thou art very God alone ouer all the kingdomes of the earth: thou hast made the heauen and the earth.
Seigneur des armées, Dieu d'Israël, qui êtes assis sur les chérubins, vous êtes le seul Dieu de tous les royaumes de la terre; vous avez créé le ciel et la terre.
17 Encline thine eare, O Lord, and heare: open thine eyes, O Lord, and see, and heare all the wordes of Saneherib, who hath sent to blaspheme the liuing God.
Seigneur, inclinez votre oreille; Seigneur, écoutez; Seigneur, ouvrez les yeux, regardez et voyez les paroles que Sennachérib envoie pour outrager le Dieu vivant.
18 Trueth it is, O Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed all lands, and their countrey,
Il est vrai, Seigneur, que les Assyriens ont dépeuplé toute la terre et les contrées des nations,
19 And haue cast their gods in ye fire: for they were no gods, but the worke of mans hands, euen wood or stone: therefore they destroyed them.
Et qu'ils ont jeté au feu leurs idoles; car ce n'étaient pas des dieux, mais des œuvres de la main des hommes, du bois, de la pierre, et ils les ont répudiées.
20 Nowe therefore, O Lord our God, saue thou vs out of his hand, that all the kingdomes of the earth may knowe, that thou onely art the Lord.
Maintenant, Seigneur notre Dieu, délivrez-nous des mains de Sennachérib, afin que tout royaume de la terre sache que vous êtes le seul Dieu.
21 Then Isaiah the sonne of Amoz sent vnto Hezekiah, saying, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Because thou hast prayed vnto me, concerning Saneherib king of Asshur,
Et Isaie, fils d'Amos, envoya un messager chez Ézéchias, disant: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël J'ai entendu la prière que tu m'as faite au sujet de Sennachérib, roi des Assyriens;
22 This is the worde that the Lord hath spoken against him, the virgine, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne: the daughter of Ierusalem, hath shaken her head at thee.
Or voici les paroles que Dieu a dites sur lui: il t'a méprisée, ô vierge, fille de Sion, il t'a raillée; il a secoué la tête sur toi, fille de Jérusalem.
23 Whome hast thou railed on and blasphemed? and against whome hast thou exalted thy voyce, and lifted vp thine eyes on hie? euen against the holy one of Israel.
Qui as-tu outragé et irrité? Contre qui as-tu élevé la voix? N'as-tu pas levé tes regards hautains contre le Saint d'Israël?
24 By thy seruants hast thou railed on the Lord, and sayd, By the multitude of my charets I am come vp to the top of the mountaines to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut downe the hie cedars thereof, and the faire firre trees thereof, and I will goe vp to the heightes of his top and to the forest of his fruitfull places.
Tu as outragé le Seigneur par tes messagers, et tu as dit: Avec la multitude de mes chars je suis monté sur la cime des montagnes et sur les pics du Liban; j'ai abattu ses grands cèdres et ses plus beaux cyprès, et je suis venu au plus haut de la forêt de chênes.
25 I haue digged and drunke the waters, and with the plant of my feete haue I dryed all the riuers closed in.
Et j'ai fait une digue, et j'ai desséché les eaux et tous les rassemblements d'eau.
26 Hast thou not heard howe I haue of olde time made it, and haue formed it long ago? and should I now bring it, that it should be destroyed, and layde on ruinous heapes, as cities defensed?
N'as-tu pas ouï parler des choses que j'ai faites jadis? Dès les anciens jours je les ai ordonnées; et aujourd'hui j'ai montré mon dessein de désoler des nations dans leurs forteresses et les habitants des villes fortes.
27 Whose inhabitants haue small power, and are afrayd and confounded: they are like the grasse of the field and greene herbe, or grasse on the house tops, or corne blassed afore it be growen.
J'ai énervé leurs mains, et ils se sont flétris, ils sont devenus comme le gazon des terrasses.
28 But I know thy dwelling, and thy going out, and thy comming in, and thy fury against me.
Et maintenant je connais ta demeure, ton départ et ton arrivée.
29 Because thou ragest against me, and thy tumult is come vnto mine eares, therefore will I put mine hooke in thy nostrels, and my bridle in thy lips, and wil bring thee backe againe the same way thou camest.
Ta fureur, tes paroles superbes sont parvenues jusqu'à moi; mais je mettrai un harpon dans tes narines et un mors à tes lèvres, et je te renverrai par le chemin que tu as pris en venant.
30 And this shalbe a signe vnto thee, O Hezekiah, Thou shalt eate this yeere such as groweth of it selfe: and the second yeere, such things as growe without sowing: and in the third yeere, sowe ye and reape, and plant vineyards, and eate the fruite thereof.
Pour toi, Ezéchias, voici mon signe: Mange cette année ce que tu auras semé, et la seconde année, les restes; mais, la troisième année, semez et moissonnez; plantez vos vignes, et vous en mangerez les fruits.
31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Iudah, shall againe take roote downward and beare fruite vpward.
Et ceux qui seront restés en Judée enfonceront leurs racines dans le sol, et produiront des fruits jusqu'au haut des branches.
32 For out of Ierusalem shall goe a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the Lord of hostes shall doe this.
Car il sortira de Jérusalem des restes, et de la montagne de Sion des hommes sauvés. Et c'est l'amour du Seigneur des armées qui fera ces choses.
33 Therefore thus sayth the Lord, concerning the King of Asshur, He shall not enter into this citie, nor shoote an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a mount against it.
A cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur sur le roi des Assyriens: Il n'entrera point en cette ville; il ne lancera pas contre elle une flèche; il ne poussera pas contre elle un bouclier; il ne l'entourera point de palissades.
34 By the same way that he came, he shall returne, and not come into this citie, saith the Lord.
Il s'en retournera par le chemin qu'il a pris, et il n'entrera point en cette ville: voilà ce que dit le Seigneur.
35 For I will defend this citie to saue it, for mine owne sake, and for my seruant Dauids sake.
J'étendrai mon bouclier sur cette ville pour la sauver à cause de moi, et à cause de David, mon serviteur.
36 Then the Angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the campe of Asshur an hundreth, fourescore, and fiue thousand: so when they arose early in the morning, beholde, they were all dead corpses.
Et l'ange du Seigneur s'avança, et il extermina dans le camp des Assyriens cent quatre-vingt-cinq mille hommes; et les survivants se levèrent dès l'aurore, et ils ne trouvèrent que des cadavres.
37 So Saneherib king of Asshur departed, and went away and returned and dwelt at Nineueh.
Et Sennachérib, roi des Assyriens, partit et il s'en retourna, et il ne sortit plus de Ninive.
38 And as he was in the temple worshipping of Nisroch his god, Adramelech and Sharezer his sonnes slewe him with the sword, and they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his sonne reigned in his steade.
Et comme il adorait, dans le temple de Nasarach, le premier de ses dieux, ses fils Adramélech et Sarasar le tuèrent de leurs épées; puis ils se sauvèrent en Arménie, et Asordan, son fils, régna à sa place.
