Isaiah 31
1 Woe vnto them that goe downe into Egypt for helpe, and stay vpon horses, and trust in charets, because they are many, and in horsemen, because they be very strong: but they looke not vnto the holy one of Israel, nor seeke vnto the Lord.
Guai a quelli che scendono in Egitto in cerca di soccorso, e s’appoggian su cavalli; e confidano nei carri perché son numerosi; e ne’ cavalieri, perché molto potenti, ma non guardano al Santo d’Israele, e non cercano l’Eterno!
2 But he yet is wisest: therefore he wil bring euill, and not turne backe his worde, but he will arise against the house of the wicked, and against the helpe of them that worke vanitie.
Eppure, anch’Egli è savio; fa venire il male, e non revoca le sue parole; ma insorge contro la casa de’ malvagi, e contro il soccorso degli artefici d’iniquità.
3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God, and their horses flesh and not spirite: and when the Lord shall stretch out his hand, the helper shall fall, and hee that is holpen shall fall, and they shall altogether faile.
Or gli Egiziani son uomini, e non Dio; i loro cavalli son carne, e non spirito; e quando l’Eterno stenderà la sua mano, il protettore inciamperà, cadrà il protetto, e periranno tutti assieme.
4 For thus hath the Lord spoken vnto me, As the lyon or lyons whelpe roareth vpon his praye, against whom if a multitude of shepheards be called, hee will not be afraide at their voyce, neither will humble him selfe at their noise: so shall the Lord of hostes come downe to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.
Poiché così m’ha detto l’Eterno: Come il leone o il leoncello rugge sulla sua preda, e benché una folla di pastori gli sia chiamata contro non si spaventa alla lor voce né si lascia intimidire dallo strepito che fanno, così scenderà l’Eterno degli eserciti a combattere sul monte Sion e sul suo colle.
5 As birds that flie, so shall the Lord of hostes defend Ierusalem by defending and deliuering, by passing through and preseruing it.
Come gli uccelli spiegan l’ali sulla loro nidiata, così l’Eterno degli eserciti proteggerà Gerusalemme; la proteggerà, la libererà, la risparmierà, la farà scampare.
6 O ye children of Israel, turne againe, in as much as ye are sunken deepe in rebellion.
Tornate a colui dal quale vi siete così profondamente allontanati, o figliuoli d’Israele!
7 For in that day euery man shall cast out his idoles of siluer, and his idoles of golde, which your handes haue made you, euen a sinne.
Poiché, in quel giorno, ognuno getterà via i suoi idoli d’argento e i suoi idoli d’oro, che le vostre proprie mani han fatti per peccare.
8 Then shall Asshur fall by the sworde, not of man, neither shall the sworde of man deuoure him, and hee shall flee from the sworde, and his yong men shall faint.
Allora l’Assiro cadrà per una spada non d’uomo, e una spada, che non è d’uomo, lo divorerà; ed ei fuggirà d’innanzi alla spada, e i suoi giovani saranno asserviti.
9 And he shall go for feare to his towre, and his princes shall be afraide of the standart, sayeth the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and his fornace in Ierusalem.
La sua ròcca fuggirà spaventata, e i suoi principi saranno atterriti dinanzi al vessillo, dice l’Eterno che ha il suo fuoco in Sion e la sua fornace in Gerusalemme.
