Isaiah 30
1 Wo to the rebellious children, sayth the Lord, that take counsell, but not of me, and couer with a couering, but not by my spirit, that they may lay sinne vpon sinne:
Wee de weerspannige zonen, is de godsspraak van Jahweh, Die plannen beramen, maar buiten Mij om, Verbonden sluiten, maar tegen mijn geest, Om zonde op zonde te stapelen;
2 Which walke forth to goe downe into Egypt (and haue not asked at my mouth) to strengthen them selues with the strength of Pharaoh, and trust in the shadowe of Egypt.
Die naar Egypte trekken, Zonder Mij te hebben geraadpleegd, Om onder Farao’s schutse te vluchten, In Egypte’s schaduw te schuilen.
3 But the strength of Pharaoh shalbe your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
Maar Farao’s schuts zal een smaad voor u zijn, De vlucht in Egypte’s schaduw een schande.
4 For his princes were at Zoan, and his Ambassadours came vnto Hanes.
Want al gaan ook uw vorsten naar Sóan, En trekken uw boden tot Chanes,
5 They shalbe all ashamed of the people that cannot profite them, nor helpe nor doe them good, but shalbe a shame and also a reproche.
Allen komen bedrogen uit Bij een volk, dat hen toch niet kan helpen; Dat hulp brengt noch redding, Maar enkel schande en smaad.
6 The burden of the beasts of the South, in a land of trouble and anguish, from whence shall come the yong and olde lyon, the viper and fierie flying serpent against them that shall beare their riches vpon the shoulders of the coltes, and their treasures vpon the bounches of the camels, to a people that cannot profite.
Door de gloeiende Négeb trekken ze heen, Door het land van benauwing en angst, Van leeuwinnen en brullende leeuwen, Van adders en vliegende draken. Ze dragen hun rijkdom op de ruggen der ezels, Op kemel-bulten hun schatten, naar een volk, dat niet helpt,
7 For the Egyptians are vanitie, and they shall helpe in vaine. Therefore haue I cried vnto her, Their strength is to sit still.
Naar Egypte, wiens hulp ijdel en leeg is, Dat ik genoemd heb: Slapende Ráhab!
8 Now go, and write it before them in a table, and note it in a booke that it may be for the last day for euer and euer:
Ga nu, en schrijf het voor hen op een blad, En teken het op in een boek, Opdat het in de komende tijden Een getuigenis blijve voor eeuwig:
9 That it is a rebellious people, lying children, and children that would not heare the law of the Lord.
Ze zijn een weerbarstige natie, Ontrouwe zonen, Kinderen, die niet willen horen Naar Jahweh’s gebod.
10 Which say vnto the Seers, See not: and to the Prophets, Prophecie not vnto vs right things: but speake flattering things vnto vs: prophecie errours.
Tot de zieners zeggen ze: Ziet niet; Tot de profeten: voorspelt ons geen waarheid; Maar zegt ons enkel wat aangenaam is, Voorspelt ons wat ons kan strelen.
11 Depart out of the way: go aside out of the path: cause the holy one of Israel to cease from vs.
Wijkt af van de weg, Buigt af van het pad, En laat ons met rust, en verveelt ons niet Met Israëls Heilige!
12 Therefoe thus saith the holy one of Israel, Because you haue cast off this worde, and trust in violence, and wickednes, and stay thereupon,
Daarom zegt Israëls Heilige: Omdat gij dit woord veracht, En vertrouwt en steunt op leugen en bedrog,
13 Therefore this iniquitie shalbe vnto you as a breach that falleth, or a swelling in an hie wall, whose breaking commeth suddenly in a moment.
Zal deze zonde u zijn als een wankel stuk van een hoge muur, Dat overhelt en plotseling omlaag stort.
14 And the breaking thereof is like the breaking of a potters pot, which is broken without pitie, and in the breaking thereof is not found a sheard to take fire out of the hearth, or to take water out of the pit.
Het breekt, zoals een aarden kruik wordt verbrijzeld, Meedogenloos, zodat er geen scherf van heel blijft: Om vuur te halen uit de haard, Of water uit de put te scheppen.
15 For thus sayd the Lord God, the Holy one of Israel, In rest and quietnes shall ye be saued: in quietnes and in confidence shall be your strength, but ye would not.
Want zo heeft Jahweh gesproken, De Heer, Israëls Heilige: In bekering en berusting Ligt uw redding; In stilte en vertrouwen Ligt uw kracht; Maar gij hebt niet willen horen,
16 For ye haue sayd, No, but we wil flee away vpon horses. Therefore shall ye flee. We will ride vpon the swiftest. Therefore shall your persecuters be swifter.
Ge hebt gezegd: Neen! Op paarden willen we vluchten; Ja, ge zùlt moeten vluchten! Op dravers zullen we rennen; Ja, uw vervolgers rennen achter u aan!
17 A thousand as one shall flee at the rebuke of one: at the rebuke of fiue shall ye flee, till ye be left as a ship maste vpon the top of a mountaine, and as a beaken vpon an hill.
Duizend van u slaan op de vlucht voor het dreigen van één, Tienduizend voor het dreigen van vijf; Totdat uw overschot zal zijn als een mast op een bergtop, Als een banier op een heuvel.
18 Yet therefore will the Lord waite, that he may haue mercy vpon you, and therefore wil he be exalted, that hee may haue compassion vpon you: for the Lord is the God of iudgement. Blessed are all they that waite for him.
Toch blijft Jahweh wachten op u, om u genadig te zijn, Verheft Hij zich, om zich over u te ontfermen; Want Jahweh is een rechtvaardig God: Gelukkig allen, die op Hem hopen!
19 Surely a people shall dwell in Zion, and in Ierusalem: thou shalt weepe no more: he wil certainly haue mercy vpon thee at the voyce of thy crye: when he heareth thee, he wil answere thee.
Ja, volk van Sion, dat in Jerusalem woont: Gij zult niet altijd hoeven wenen; Zodra gij roept, zal Hij zich uwer ontfermen, Zodra Hij u hoort, u verhoren.
20 And when the Lord hath giuen you the bread of aduersitie, and the water of affliction, thy raine shalbe no more kept backe, but thine eyes shall see thy raine.
Al reikt ook de Heer u het brood der benauwing, En het water van nood, Uw Leraar zal zich niet altijd verbergen. Uw ogen zullen uw Leidsman aanschouwen;
21 And thine eares shall heare a worde behind thee, saying, This is the way, walke ye in it, when thou turnest to the right hand, and when thou turnest to the left.
Uw oren zullen de woorden horen, Die achter u worden gesproken: Dit is de weg; blijft hem bewandelen, Al zoudt ge ook rechts of links willen gaan;
22 And ye shall pollute the couering of the images of siluer, and the riche ornament of thine images of golde, and cast them away as a menstruous cloth, and thou shalt say vnto it, Get thee hence.
Dan zult ge het zilver, dat uw goden bedekt, En het gouden beslag uwer beelden Als onrein beschouwen, en verwerpen als drek: Weg er mee, zult ge zeggen!
23 Then shall hee giue raine vnto thy seede, when thou shalt sowe the ground, and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shalbe fat and as oyle: in that day shall thy cattell be fed in large pastures.
Dan zal Hij regen schenken voor uw zaad, Waarmede gij uw akker bezaait; En het koren, dat aan uw bodem ontspruit, Zal mals zijn en sappig. Dan zal uw kudde op ruime weiden grazen,
24 The oxen also and the yong asses, that till the ground, shall eate cleane prouender, which is winowed with the shoouel and with the fanne.
Met uw ossen en ezels, die de akker bewerken, En veevoer eten, met hartige kruiden vermengd, Met zeef en wan gezift.
25 And vpon euery hie mountaine, and vpon euery hie hill shall there be riuers and streames of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers shall fall.
Dan zullen op alle hoge bergen en heuvels De beken stromen van water! En als de grote slachting begint, en torens vallen,
26 Moreouer, the light of the moone shall be as the light of the sunne, and the light of the sunne shalbe seuen folde, and like the light of seuen dayes in the day that the Lord shall binde vp the breach of his people, and heale the stroke of their wound.
Zal het licht der maan als zonnelicht stralen. Het licht der zon zal zevenmaal krachtiger zijn, En als het licht van zeven dagen schitteren, Wanneer Jahweh de wonden van zijn volk zal verbinden, De striemen geneest, die Hij sloeg.
27 Beholde, the Name of the Lord commeth from farre, his face is burning, and the burden thereof is heauy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a deuouring fire.
Zie, daar nadert de Naam van Jahweh van verre, In laaiende woede en dichte rook; Zijn lippen vol gramschap, Verslindende vlammen zijn tong;
28 And his spirit is as a riuer that ouerfloweth vp to the necke: it deuideth asunder, to fanne the nations with the fanne of vanitie, and there shall be a bridle to cause them to erre in the chawes of the people.
Zijn adem als een bruisende stroom, Die reikt tot de hals. Hij zal de naties ziften met de wan der vernieling, En de toom van verderf om de kaken der volkeren slaan!
29 But there shall be a song vnto you as in the night, when solemne feast is kept: and gladnes of heart, as he that commeth with a pipe to goe vnto the mount of the Lord, to the mightie one of Israel.
En terwijl bij u de zangen weerschallen, Als in de nacht, dat er feest wordt gevierd, En er vreugd in uw hart is, als gij optrekt met fluiten, Om naar de berg van Jahweh te gaan, Israëls Rots:
30 And the Lord shall cause his glorious voyce to be heard, and shall declare the lighting downe of his arme with the anger of his countenance, and flame of a deuouring fire, with scattering and tempest, and hailestones.
Dan zal Jahweh de majesteit van zijn donder doen horen, En zijn dreigende arm laten zien, In grimmige toorn en verslindende vlammen, In orkaan en stortvloed en hagelstenen.
31 For with the voyce of the Lord shall Asshur be destroyed, which smote with the rod.
Ja, Assjoer zal sidderen voor Jahweh’s stem, Als Hij hem met de roede zal slaan;
32 And in euery place that ye staffe shall passe, it shall cleaue fast, which the Lord shall lay vpon him with tabrets and harpes: and with battels, and lifting vp of hands shall he fight against it.
En iedere stokslag, waarmee Jahweh hem tuchtigt, Zal hem raken bij pauken, citer en dans!
33 For Tophet is prepared of olde: it is euen prepared for the King: hee hath made it deepe and large: the burning thereof is fire and much wood: the breath of the Lord, like a riuer of brimstone, doeth kindle it.
Want al lang staat zijn Tófet gereed, Diep en breed als voor Molok; Zijn brandstapel ligt vol stoppels en hout, Als een zwavelstroom steekt de adem van Jahweh hem aan!
