Isaiah 28

1 Woe to the crowne of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim: for his glorious beautie shall be a fading flowre, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fat, and are ouercome with wine.

Celaka atas mahkota kemegahan pemabuk-pemabuk Efraim, atas bunga yang sudah mulai layu di perhiasan kepala mereka yang indah-indah--yaitu kota yang terletak tinggi di atas bukit, di atas lembah yang subur yang penuh peminum anggur yang sudah pening--!

2 Beholde, the Lord hath a mightie and strong hoste, like a tempest of haile, and a whirlewinde that ouerthroweth, like a tempest of mightie waters that ouerflowe, which throwe to the ground mightily.

Sesungguhnya, pada Tuhan ada seorang yang kuat dan tegap, seorang yang seperti angin ribut disertai hujan batu, yakni badai yang membinasakan, seorang yang seperti angin ribut disertai air hujan yang hebat menghanyutkan; ia akan menghempaskan mereka ke tanah dengan kekerasan.

3 They shall be troden vnder foote, euen the crowne and the pride of the drunkards of Ephraim.

Mahkota kemegahan pemabuk-pemabuk Efraim itu akan diinjak-injak dengan kaki,

4 For his glorious beautie shall be a fading floure, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fatte, and as the hastie fruite afore sommer, which when hee that looketh vpon it, seeth it, while it is in his hand, he eateth it.

dan bunga yang sudah mulai layu di perhiasan kepala mereka yang indah-indah itu--yaitu kota yang terletak tinggi di atas bukit, di atas lembah yang subur--nasibnya akan seperti nasib buah ara yang masak duluan sebelum musim kemarau: baru saja dilihat orang terus dipetik dan ditelan.

5 In that day shall the Lord of hostes be for a crowne of glory, and for a diademe of beautie vnto the residue of his people:

Pada waktu itu TUHAN semesta alam akan menjadi mahkota kepermaian, dan perhiasan kepala yang indah-indah bagi sisa umat-Nya,

6 And for a spirite of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudgement, and for strength vnto them that turne away the battell to the gate.

akan menjadi roh keadilan bagi orang yang duduk mengadili, dan menjadi roh kepahlawanan bagi orang yang memukul mundur peperangan ke arah pintu gerbang.

7 But they haue erred because of wine, and are out of the way by strong drinke: the priest and the prophet haue erred by strong drinke: they are swallowed vp with wine: they haue gone astraye through strong drinke: they faile in vision: they stumble in iudgement.

Tetapi orang-orang di sinipun pening karena anggur dan pusing karena arak. Baik imam maupun nabi pening karena arak, kacau oleh anggur; mereka pusing oleh arak, pening pada waktu melihat penglihatan, goyang pada waktu memberi keputusan.

8 For all their tables are full of filthy vomiting: no place is cleane.

Sungguh, segala meja penuh dengan muntah, kotoran, sehingga tidak ada tempat yang bersih lagi.

9 Whome shall he teache knowledge? and whome shall he make to vnderstand the thinges that hee heareth? them that are weyned from the milke, and drawen from the breastes.

Dan orang berkata: "Kepada siapakah dia ini mau mengajarkan pengetahuannya dan kepada siapakah ia mau menjelaskan nubuat-nubuatnya? Seolah-olah kepada anak yang baru disapih, dan yang baru cerai susu!

10 For precept must be vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle, and there a litle.

Sebab harus ini harus itu, mesti begini mesti begitu, tambah ini, tambah itu!"

11 For with a stammering tongue and with a strange language shall he speake vnto this people.

Sungguh, oleh orang-orang yang berlogat ganjil dan oleh orang-orang yang berbahasa asing akan berbicara kepada bangsa ini

12 Vnto whome hee saide, This is the rest: giue rest to him that is weary: and this is the refreshing, but they would not heare.

Dia yang telah berfirman kepada mereka: "Inilah tempat perhentian, berilah perhentian kepada orang yang lelah; inilah tempat peristirahatan!" Tetapi mereka tidak mau mendengarkan.

13 Therefore shall the worde of the Lord be vnto them precept vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle and there a litle, that they may goe, and fall backward, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

Maka mereka akan mendengarkan firman TUHAN yang begini: "Harus ini harus itu, mesti begini mesti begitu, tambah ini tambah itu!" supaya dalam berjalan mereka jatuh telentang, sehingga luka, tertangkap dan tertawan.

14 Wherefore, heare the worde of the Lord, ye scornefull men that rule this people, which is at Ierusalem.

Sebab itu dengarlah firman TUHAN, hai orang-orang pencemooh, hai orang-orang yang memerintah rakyat yang ada di Yerusalem ini!

15 Because ye haue said, We haue made a couenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement: though a scourge runne ouer, and passe through, it shall not come at vs: for we haue made falshood our refuge, and vnder vanitie are we hid, (Sheol h7585)

Karena kamu telah berkata: "Kami telah mengikat perjanjian dengan maut, dan dengan dunia maut kami telah mengadakan persetujuan; biarpun cemeti berdesik-desik dengan kerasnya, kami tidak akan kena; sebab kami telah membuat bohong sebagai perlindungan kami, dan dalam dusta kami menyembunyikan diri," (Sheol h7585)

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will laye in Zion a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation. Hee that beleeueth, shall not make haste.

sebab itu beginilah firman Tuhan ALLAH: "Sesungguhnya, Aku meletakkan sebagai dasar di Sion sebuah batu, batu yang teruji, sebuah batu penjuru yang mahal, suatu dasar yang teguh: Siapa yang percaya, tidak akan gelisah!

17 Iudgement also will I laye to the rule, and righteousnesse to the balance, and the haile shall sweepe away the vaine confidence, and the waters shall ouerflowe the secret place.

Dan Aku akan membuat keadilan menjadi tali pengukur, dan kebenaran menjadi tali sipat; hujan batu akan menyapu bersih perlindungan bohong, dan air lebat akan menghanyutkan persembunyian."

18 And your couenant with death shalbe disanulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand: when a scourge shall runne ouer and passe through, then shall ye be trode downe by it. (Sheol h7585)

Perjanjianmu dengan maut itu akan ditiadakan, dan persetujuanmu dengan dunia orang mati itu tidak akan tetap berlaku; apabila cemeti berdesik-desik dengan kerasnya, kamu akan hancur diinjak-injak. (Sheol h7585)

19 When it passeth ouer, it shall take you away: for it shall passe through euery morning in the day, and in the night, and there shalbe onely feare to make you to vnderstand the hearing.

Seberapa kali ia datang, ia akan menyeret kamu, sebab pagi demi pagi ia akan datang, pada waktu siang dan pada waktu malam; maka adalah semata-mata kengerian untuk mengerti firman yang didengar itu.

20 For the bed is streight that it can not suffice, and the couering narowe that one can not wrappe himselfe.

Sebab tempat tidur akan kurang panjang untuk dipakai membujurkan diri dan selimut akan kurang lebar untuk dipakai menyelubungi diri.

21 For the Lord shall stand as in mount Perazim: hee shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his worke, his strage worke, and bring to passe his acte, his strange acte.

Sebab TUHAN akan bangkit seperti di gunung Perasim, Ia akan mengamuk seperti di lembah dekat Gibeon, untuk melakukan perbuatan-Nya--ganjil perbuatan-Nya itu; dan untuk mengerjakan pekerjaan-Nya--ajaib pekerjaan-Nya itu!

22 Nowe therefore be no mockers, least your bondes increase: for I haue heard of the Lord of hostes a consumption, euen determined vpon the whole earth.

Oleh sebab itu, janganlah kamu mencemooh, supaya tali belenggumu jangan semakin keras, sebab kudengar tentang kebinasaan yang sudah pasti yang datang dari Tuhan ALLAH semesta alam atas seluruh negeri itu.

23 Hearken ye, and heare my voyce: hearken ye, and heare my speach.

Pasanglah telinga dan dengarkanlah suaraku; perhatikanlah dan dengarkanlah perkataanku!

24 Doeth the plowe man plowe all the day, to sowe? doeth he open, and breake the clots of his ground?

Setiap harikah orang membajak, mencangkul dan menyisir tanahnya untuk menabur?

25 When he hath made it plaine, wil he not then sowe the fitches, and sowe cummin, and cast in wheat by measure, and the appointed barly and rye in their place?

Bukankah setelah meratakan tanahnya, ia menyerakkan jintan hitam dan menebarkan jintan putih, menaruh gandum jawawut dan jelai kehitam-hitaman dan sekoi di pinggirnya?

26 For his God doeth instruct him to haue discretion, and doeth teach him.

Mengenai adat kebiasaan ia telah diajari, diberi petunjuk oleh Allahnya.

27 For fitches shall not be threshed with a threshing instrument, neither shall a cart wheele be turned about vpon the cummin: but ye fitches are beaten out with a staffe, and cummin with a rod.

Sebab jintan hitam tidak diirik dengan eretan pengirik, dan roda gerobak tidak dipakai untuk menggiling jintan putih, tetapi jintan hitam diirik dengan memukul-mukulnya dengan galah, dan jintan putih dengan tongkat.

28 Bread corne when it is threshed, hee doeth not alway thresh it, neither doeth the wheele of his cart still make a noyse, neither will he breake it with the teeth thereof.

Apakah orang waktu mengirik memukul gandum sampai hancur? sungguh tidak, orang tidak terus-menerus memukulnya sampai hancur! Dan sekalipun orang menjalankan di atas gandum itu jentera gerobak dengan kudanya, namun orang tidak akan menggilingnya sampai hancur.

29 This also commeth from the Lord of hostes, which is wonderfull in counsell, and excellent in workes.

Dan inipun datangnya dari TUHAN semesta alam; Ia ajaib dalam keputusan dan agung dalam kebijaksanaan.
