Isaiah 28
1 Woe to the crowne of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim: for his glorious beautie shall be a fading flowre, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fat, and are ouercome with wine.
Malheur à la couronne superbe des ivrognes d'Éphraïm, fleur qui passe, leur brillante parure, sise sur une cime dans la vallée fertile de ceux qu'étourdit le vin!
2 Beholde, the Lord hath a mightie and strong hoste, like a tempest of haile, and a whirlewinde that ouerthroweth, like a tempest of mightie waters that ouerflowe, which throwe to the ground mightily.
Voici venir de par le Seigneur, un fort et puissant ennemi, comme un orage de grêle, un ouragan destructeur, comme une trombe de grosses eaux qui inondent; il va la faire tomber en terre sous ses coups.
3 They shall be troden vnder foote, euen the crowne and the pride of the drunkards of Ephraim.
Sous les pieds elle va être foulée, la couronne superbe des ivrognes d'Éphraïm;
4 For his glorious beautie shall be a fading floure, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fatte, and as the hastie fruite afore sommer, which when hee that looketh vpon it, seeth it, while it is in his hand, he eateth it.
et la fleur qui passe, leur parure brillante, sise sur une cime dans la vallée fertile, sera comme avant la récolte la figue primeur; on l'aperçoit; à peine dans la main, elle est avalée.
5 In that day shall the Lord of hostes be for a crowne of glory, and for a diademe of beautie vnto the residue of his people:
En ce même jour, l'Éternel des armées sera une couronne de parure et un diadème brillant pour les restes de son peuple,
6 And for a spirite of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudgement, and for strength vnto them that turne away the battell to the gate.
et un esprit de jugement pour le juge qui siège, et une force pour ceux qui font rentrer les agresseurs dans leurs portes.
7 But they haue erred because of wine, and are out of the way by strong drinke: the priest and the prophet haue erred by strong drinke: they are swallowed vp with wine: they haue gone astraye through strong drinke: they faile in vision: they stumble in iudgement.
Mais ceux-ci aussi sont troublés par le vin, et la cervoise les fait chanceler; prêtres et prophètes sont troublés par la cervoise, subjugués par le vin, la cervoise les fait chanceler; ils sont troublés quand ils prophétisent, égarés quand ils jugent.
8 For all their tables are full of filthy vomiting: no place is cleane.
Car toutes les tables sont pleines de vomissements et d'ordures; il n'y a plus de place.
9 Whome shall he teache knowledge? and whome shall he make to vnderstand the thinges that hee heareth? them that are weyned from the milke, and drawen from the breastes.
« A qui veut-il enseigner la sagesse et à qui donner des leçons? A des enfants sevrés, ôtés à la mamelle?
10 For precept must be vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle, and there a litle.
Car c'est loi sur loi, loi sur loi, règle sur règle, règle sur règle; un peu ici, un peu là! »
11 For with a stammering tongue and with a strange language shall he speake vnto this people.
Oui, c'est par des hommes aux lèvres balbutiantes, et en langue étrangère, qu'il parlera à ce peuple
12 Vnto whome hee saide, This is the rest: giue rest to him that is weary: and this is the refreshing, but they would not heare.
auquel Il disait: « C'est ici le lieu du repos; procurez du repos au peuple fatigué; c'est ici le lieu du relâche; » mais ils ne voulurent point écouter.
13 Therefore shall the worde of the Lord be vnto them precept vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle and there a litle, that they may goe, and fall backward, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
Et pour eux la parole de l'Éternel sera: « Loi sur loi, loi sur loi, règle sur règle, règle sur règle, un peu ici, un peu là, » afin qu'ils aillent et qu'ils tombent à la renverse, et qu'ils se brisent, et qu'ils s'enlacent, et qu'ils se prennent.
14 Wherefore, heare the worde of the Lord, ye scornefull men that rule this people, which is at Ierusalem.
Aussi, écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, moqueurs, dominateurs de ce peuple qui est dans Jérusalem!
15 Because ye haue said, We haue made a couenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement: though a scourge runne ouer, and passe through, it shall not come at vs: for we haue made falshood our refuge, and vnder vanitie are we hid, (Sheol h7585)
Parce que vous dites: « Nous avons fait un pacte avec la mort, et avec l'Enfer un compromis, la verge de l'inondation à son passage ne nous atteindra pas, car nous prenons le mensonge pour asile et la fraude pour abri; » (Sheol h7585)
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will laye in Zion a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation. Hee that beleeueth, shall not make haste.
c'est pourquoi, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: C'est moi qui ai mis en Sion pour fondement une pierre, pierre éprouvée, pierre angulaire de prix, fondement bien fondé; qui s'y fie, n'aura pas à fuir;
17 Iudgement also will I laye to the rule, and righteousnesse to the balance, and the haile shall sweepe away the vaine confidence, and the waters shall ouerflowe the secret place.
et je ferai du bon droit le cordeau et de la justice la balance, et la grêle détruira l'asile du mensonge, et l'abri sera submergé par les eaux.
18 And your couenant with death shalbe disanulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand: when a scourge shall runne ouer and passe through, then shall ye be trode downe by it. (Sheol h7585)
Et votre pacte avec la mort sera déjoué, et votre compromis avec l'Enfer sera sans effet, par la verge de l'inondation à son passage vous serez écrasés. (Sheol h7585)
19 When it passeth ouer, it shall take you away: for it shall passe through euery morning in the day, and in the night, and there shalbe onely feare to make you to vnderstand the hearing.
Toujours à son passage elle vous saisira; car chaque matin elle passera, le jour et la nuit, c'est une terreur seulement d'en entendre le bruit.
20 For the bed is streight that it can not suffice, and the couering narowe that one can not wrappe himselfe.
Oui, le lit sera trop court pour s'y étendre, et la couverture trop étroite pour s'en envelopper.
21 For the Lord shall stand as in mount Perazim: hee shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his worke, his strage worke, and bring to passe his acte, his strange acte.
Car, comme au mont Peratsim, l'Éternel se lèvera, comme dans la vallée de Gabaon Il se courroucera, pour exécuter son œuvre, son œuvre étrange, et pour faire son travail, son travail inouï.
22 Nowe therefore be no mockers, least your bondes increase: for I haue heard of the Lord of hostes a consumption, euen determined vpon the whole earth.
Et maintenant, ne vous moquez point, de peur que vos chaînes ne se serrent! car j'ai appris de l'Éternel des armées que la ruine de toute la terre est décidée.
23 Hearken ye, and heare my voyce: hearken ye, and heare my speach.
Prêtez l'oreille et entendez ma voix! écoutez et entendez ma parole!
24 Doeth the plowe man plowe all the day, to sowe? doeth he open, and breake the clots of his ground?
Le laboureur laboure-t-il sans cesser pour semer? il ouvre aussi et herse son sol:
25 When he hath made it plaine, wil he not then sowe the fitches, and sowe cummin, and cast in wheat by measure, and the appointed barly and rye in their place?
en a-t-il aplani la surface, il y sème de l'anet et y répand du cumin; il plante le froment par rangées, et l'orge à une place fixe, et l'épeautre sur ses bords.
26 For his God doeth instruct him to haue discretion, and doeth teach him.
Son Dieu lui enseigna la manière, et Il l'instruisit.
27 For fitches shall not be threshed with a threshing instrument, neither shall a cart wheele be turned about vpon the cummin: but ye fitches are beaten out with a staffe, and cummin with a rod.
Car ce n'est pas non plus avec le traîneau qu'on foule l'anet, et le madrier avec ses roues ne passe pas sur le cumin; mais l'anet est battu avec le bâton, et le cumin avec la perche.
28 Bread corne when it is threshed, hee doeth not alway thresh it, neither doeth the wheele of his cart still make a noyse, neither will he breake it with the teeth thereof.
Le blé est battu, mais il ne le bat pas sans fin; il y fait passer les roues de son chariot et ses chevaux, il ne l'écrase pas.
29 This also commeth from the Lord of hostes, which is wonderfull in counsell, and excellent in workes.
Cela aussi procède de l'Éternel des armées: admirable est son conseil, et grande sa sagesse.
