Isaiah 26
1 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Iudah, We haue a strong citie: saluation shall God set for walles and bulwarkes.
En ce jour-là, on chantera ce cantique dans le pays de Juda: « Nous avons une ville forte. Dieu destine le salut aux murs et aux remparts.
2 Open ye the gates that the righteous nation, which keepeth the trueth, may enter in.
Ouvrez les portes, pour que la nation juste puisse entrer: celui qui garde la foi.
3 By an assured purpose wilt thou preserue perfite peace, because they trusted in thee.
Tu gardes dans une paix parfaite l'esprit de celui qui est ferme, parce qu'il a confiance en vous.
4 Trust in the Lord for euer: for in the Lord God is strength for euermore.
Faites confiance à Yahvé pour toujours; car en Yah, Yahvé, est un rocher éternel.
5 For hee will bring downe them that dwell on hie: the hie citie he will abase: euen vnto the ground wil he cast it downe, and bring it vnto dust.
Car il a fait tomber les habitants des hauteurs, de la ville haute. Il fait profil bas. Il la pose à ras du sol. Il l'apporte même à la poussière.
6 The foote shall treade it downe, euen the feete of the poore, and the steppes of the needie.
Le pied la foulera, même les pieds des pauvres et les pas des nécessiteux ».
7 The way of the iust is righteousnesse: thou wilt make equall the righteous path of the iust.
La voie du juste est la droiture. Toi qui es droit, tu nivelles le chemin des justes.
8 Also we, O Lord, haue waited for thee in the way of thy iudgemets: the desire of our soule is to thy Name, and to the remembrance of thee.
Oui, dans la voie de tes jugements, Yahvé, nous t'avons attendu. Ton nom et ta renommée sont le désir de notre âme.
9 With my soule haue I desired thee in the night, and with my spirit within mee will I seeke thee in the morning: for seeing thy iudgements are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world shall learne righteousnesse.
De mon âme, je t'ai désiré pendant la nuit. Oui, avec mon esprit en moi, je vous chercherai sincèrement; car quand tes jugements sont sur la terre, les habitants du monde apprennent la justice.
10 Let mercie bee shewed to the wicked, yet hee will not learne righteousnesse: in the land of vprightnesse will he do wickedly, and will not beholde the maiestie of the Lord.
Que l'on fasse grâce aux méchants, mais il n'apprendra pas la droiture. Dans le pays de la droiture, il agira mal, et ne verront pas la majesté de Yahvé.
11 O Lord, they will not beholde thine hie hande: but they shall see it, and bee confounded with the zeale of the people, and the fire of thine enemies shall deuoure them.
Yahvé, ta main est levée, et ils ne voient pas; mais ils verront votre zèle pour le peuple et seront déçus. Oui, le feu consumera vos adversaires.
12 Lord, vnto vs thou wilt ordeine peace: for thou also hast wrought all our workes for vs.
Yahvé, tu ordonneras la paix pour nous, car tu as aussi fait tout notre travail pour nous.
13 O Lord our God, other lords beside thee, haue ruled vs, but we will remember thee onely, and thy Name.
Yahvé notre Dieu, d'autres seigneurs que toi ont dominé sur nous, mais nous ne reconnaîtrons que votre nom.
14 The dead shall not liue, neither shall the dead arise, because thou hast visited and scattered them, and destroyed all their memorie.
Les morts ne vivront pas. Les esprits défunts ne s'élèveront pas. C'est pourquoi vous les avez visités et détruits, et a fait périr toute mémoire d'eux.
15 Thou hast increased the nation, O Lord: thou hast increased the nation: thou art made glorious: thou hast enlarged all the coastes of the earth.
Tu as multiplié la nation, ô Yahvé. Vous avez augmenté la nation! Vous êtes glorifié! Tu as élargi toutes les frontières du pays.
16 Lord, in trouble haue they visited thee: they powred out a prayer when thy chastening was vpon them.
Yahvé, c'est dans la détresse qu'ils t'ont visité. Ils ont versé une prière lorsque ton châtiment s'est abattu sur eux.
17 Like as a woman with childe, that draweth neere to the trauaile, is in sorow, and cryeth in her paines, so haue we bene in thy sight, O Lord.
Comme une femme enceinte, qui approche du moment de l'accouchement, est en souffrance et crie dans ses douleurs, ainsi nous avons été devant toi, Yahvé.
18 We haue coceiued, we haue borne in paine, as though we should haue brought forth winde: there was no helpe in the earth, neither did the inhabitants of the world fall.
Nous avons été avec l'enfant. Nous avons souffert. Nous n'avons donné naissance, semble-t-il, qu'à du vent. Nous n'avons opéré aucune délivrance sur la terre; les habitants du monde ne sont pas non plus tombés.
19 Thy dead men shall liue: euen with my body shall they rise. Awake, and sing, ye that dwel in dust: for thy dewe is as the dew of herbes, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Vos morts vivront. Leurs corps morts se lèveront. Réveillez-vous et chantez, vous qui habitez dans la poussière; car ta rosée est comme la rosée des herbes, et la terre chassera les esprits des défunts.
20 Come, my people: enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doores after thee: hide thy selfe for a very litle while, vntill the indignation passe ouer.
Venez, mon peuple, entrez dans vos chambres, et fermez vos portes derrière vous. Cachez-vous pendant un petit moment, jusqu'à ce que l'indignation soit passée.
21 For lo, the Lord commeth out of his place, to visite the iniquitie of the inhabitants of the earth vpon them: and the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall no more hide her slaine.
Car voici que Yahvé sort de son lieu pour punir les habitants de la terre à cause de leur iniquité. La terre aussi dévoilera son sang, et ne couvrira plus ses morts.
