Isaiah 10
1 Woe vnto them that decree wicked decrees, and write grieuous things,
Malheur à ceux qui font des ordonnances d'iniquité, et qui dictent l'oppression qu'on leur a dictée.
2 To keepe backe ye poore from iudgement, and to take away the iudgement of the poore of my people, that widowes may be their pray, and that they may spoyle the fatherlesse.
Pour enlever aux chétifs de leur droit, et pour ravir le droit des affligés de mon peuple, afin d'avoir les veuves pour leur butin, et de piller les orphelins.
3 What will ye doe nowe in the day of visitation, and of destruction, which shall come from farre? to whom will ye flee for helpe? and where will ye leaue your glorie?
Et que ferez-vous au jour de la visitation, et de la ruine éclatante qui viendra de loin? vers qui recourrez-vous pour avoir du secours, et où laisserez-vous votre gloire?
4 Without me euery one shall fall among them that are bound, and they shall fall downe among the slayne: yet for all this his wrath is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Sans qu'aucun soit courbé sous les prisonniers, ils tomberont même sous ceux qui auront été tués. Malgré tout cela il ne fera point cesser sa colère, mais sa main sera encore étendue.
5 O Asshur, the rodde of my wrath: and the staffe in their hands is mine indignation.
Malheur à Assur, la verge de ma colère; quoique le bâton qui est en leur main [soit] mon indignation.
6 I will sende him to a dissembling nation, and I will giue him a charge against the people of my wrath to take the spoyle and to take the pray, and to treade them vnder feete like the mire in the streete.
Je l'enverrai contre la nation hypocrite, et je le dépêcherai contre le peuple de ma fureur, afin qu'il fasse un grand butin, et un grand pillage, et qu'il le foule comme la boue des rues.
7 But he thinketh not so, neither doeth his heart esteeme it so: but he imagineth to destroy and to cut off not a fewe nations.
Mais il ne l'estimera pas ainsi, et son cœur ne le pensera pas ainsi; mais [il aura] en son cœur de détruire et d'exterminer beaucoup de nations.
8 For he sayeth, Are not my princes altogether Kings?
Car il dira; mes Princes ne sont-ils pas autant de Rois?
9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?
Calno, n'est-elle pas comme Carchémis? Hamath, n'est-elle pas comme Arpad? et Samarie, n'est-elle pas comme Damas?
10 Like as mine hand hath founde the kingdomes of the idoles, seeing their idoles were aboue Ierusalem, and aboue Samaria:
Ainsi que ma main a soumis les Royaumes [qui avaient] des idoles, et desquels les images taillées [valaient plus] que [celles] de Jérusalem et de Samarie;
11 Shall not I, as I haue done to Samaria, and to the idoles thereof, so doe to Ierusalem and to the idoles thereof?
Ne ferai-je pas aussi à Jérusalem et à ses dieux, comme j'ai fait à Samarie et à ses idoles?
12 But when the Lord hath accomplished all his worke vpon mount Zion and Ierusalem, I will visite the fruite of the proude heart of the King of Asshur, and his glorious and proud lookes,
Mais il arrivera que quand le Seigneur aura achevé toute son œuvre dans la montagne de Sion et à Jérusalem, j'examinerai le fruit de la grandeur du cœur du Roi d'Assyrie, et la gloire de la fierté de ses yeux.
13 Because he said, By ye power of mine owne hand haue I done it, and by my wisdome, because I am wise: therefore I haue remooued the borders of the people, and haue spoyled their treasures, and haue pulled downe the inhabitants like a valiant man.
Parce qu'il aura dit; je l'ai fait par la force de ma main, et par ma sagesse, car je suis intelligent; j'ai ôté les bornes des peuples, et j'ai pillé ce qu'ils avaient de plus précieux, et comme puissant j'ai fait descendre ceux qui étaient assis.
14 And mine hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people, and as one gathereth egges that are left, so haue I gathered all the earth: and there was none to mooue the wing or to open the mouth, or to whisper.
Et ma main a trouvé comme un nid les richesses des peuples; et ainsi qu'on rassemble les œufs délaissés, ainsi ai-je rassemblé toute la terre, et il n'y a eu personne qui ait remué l'aile, ou qui ait ouvert le bec, ou qui ait grommelé.
15 Shall the axe boast it selfe against him that heweth therewith? or shall the sawe exalt it selfe against him that moueth it? as if the rod shoulde lift vp it selfe against him that taketh it vp, or the staffe should exalt it selfe, as it were no wood.
La cognée se glorifiera-t-elle contre celui qui en coupe? ou la scie se magnifiera-t-elle contre celui qui la remue? comme si la verge se remuait contre ceux qui la lèvent en haut, et que le bâton s'élevât, [comme] s'il n'était pas du bois.
16 Therefore shall the Lord God of hostes send amog his fat men, leannes, and vnder his glorie he shall kindle a burning, like the burning of fire.
C'est pourquoi le Seigneur, l'Eternel des armées enverra la maigreur sur ses hommes gras, et par le dessous de sa gloire il allumera un embrasement, tel que l'embrasement d'un feu.
17 And the light of Israel shalbe as a fire, and the Holy one thereof as a flame, and it shall burne, and deuoure his thornes and his briers in one day:
Car la lumière d'Israël sera un feu, et son Saint sera une flamme, qui embrasera et consumera ses épines et ses ronces tout en un jour.
18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitfull fieldes both soule and flesh: and he shalbe as ye fainting of a standard bearer.
Et il consumera la gloire de sa forêt, et de son Carmel, depuis l'âme jusqu'à la chair; et il en sera comme quand celui qui porte l'étendart est défait.
19 And the rest of the trees of his forest shalbe fewe, that a childe may tell them.
Et le reste des arbres de sa forêt seront aisés à compter, tellement qu'un enfant les mettrait bien en écrit.
20 And at that day shall the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Iaakob, stay no more vpon him that smote them, but shall stay vpon ye Lord, ye Holy one of Israel in trueth.
Et il arrivera en ce jour-là que le résidu d'Israël, et ceux qui seront réchappés de la maison de Jacob, ne s'appuieront plus sur celui qui les frappait, mais ils s'appuieront en vérité sur l'Eternel, le Saint d'Israël.
21 The remnant shall returne, euen the remnant of Iaakob vnto the mightie God.
Le résidu sera converti, le résidu, [dis-je], de Jacob [sera converti] au [Dieu] Fort et puissant.
22 For though thy people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea, yet shall the remnant of them returne. The consumption decreed shall ouerflow with righteousnesse.
Car, ô Israël! quand ton peuple serait comme le sablon de la mer, un résidu en sera converti, [mais] la consomption déterminée fera déborder la justice.
23 For the Lord God of hostes shall make the consumption, euen determined, in the middes of all the land.
Car le Seigneur l'Eternel des armées s'en va faire une consomption, même déterminée, au milieu de toute la terre.
24 Therefore thus saith ye Lord God of hostes, O my people, that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of Asshur: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift vp his staffe against thee after the maner of Egypt:
C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel des armées; mon peuple qui habites dans Sion, ne crains point le Roi d'Assyrie; il te frappera de la verge, et il lèvera son bâton sur toi à la manière d'Egypte.
25 But yet a very litle time, and the wrath shall be consumed, and mine anger in their destruction.
Mais encore un peu de temps, un peu de temps, et [mon] indignation sera consommée, et ma colère sera à leur destruction.
26 And ye Lord of hostes shall raise vp a scourge for him, according to the plague of Midian in the rocke Oreb: and as his staffe was vpon the Sea, so he will lift it vp after the maner of Egypt.
Et l'Eternel des armées lèvera sur lui un fouet, [qui sera] comme la plaie de Madian au rocher d'Horeb; et [comme] son bâton sur la mer, lequel il élèvera aussi comme contre les Egyptiens.
27 And at that day shall his burden be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy necke: and the yoke shalbe destroied because of the anoynting.
Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que son fardeau sera ôté de dessus ton épaule, et son joug de dessus ton cou; et le joug sera rompu à cause de l'onction.
28 He is come to Aiath: he is passed into Migron: at Michmash shall he lay vp his armour.
Il est venu à Hajath, il est passé à Migron, et il a mis son bagage à Michmas.
29 They haue gone ouer the foorde: they lodged in the lodging at Geba: Ramah is afraide: Gibeah of Saul is fled away.
Ils ont passé le gué; ils ont fait leur gîte à Guébah, Rama s'est effrayée, Guibha-Saül s'en est fuie.
30 Lift vp thy voyce, O daughter Gallim, cause Laish to heare, O poore Anathoth.
Fille de Gallim, élève ta voix, pauvre Hanathoth, fais-toi ouïr vers Laïs.
31 Madmenah is remoued: the inhabitants of Gebim haue gathered themselues together.
Madména s'est écartée, les habitants de Guébim s'en sont fuis en foule.
32 Yet there is a time that he will stay at Nob: he shall lift vp his hand towarde the mount of the daughter Zion, the hill of Ierusalem.
Encore un jour, il s'arrêtera à Nob; il lèvera sa main [contre] la montagne de la fille de Sion, [contre] le coteau de Jérusalem.
33 Beholde, the Lord God of hostes shall cut off the bough with feare, and they of high stature shalbe cut off, and the hie shalbe humbled.
Voici, le Seigneur, l'Eternel des armées ébranchera les rameaux avec force, et ceux qui sont les plus haut élevés, seront coupés; et les haut montés seront abaissés.
34 And he shall cut away the thicke places of the forest with yron, and Lebanon shall haue a mightie fall.
Et il taillera avec le fer les lieux les plus épais de la forêt, et le Liban tombera avec impétuosité.
