Isaiah 1
1 A vision of Isaiah, the sonne of Amoz, which he sawe concerning Iudah and Ierusalem: in the dayes of Vzziah, Iotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah Kings of Iudah.
Vision d'Ésaïe, fils d'Amoz, concernant Juda et Jérusalem, au temps d'Ozias, de Jotham, d'Achaz et d'Ézéchias, rois de Juda.
2 Heare, O heauens, and hearken, O earth: for the Lord hath sayde, I haue nourished and brought vp children, but they haue rebelled against me.
Écoutez, cieux, et écoute, terre, car Yahvé a parlé: « J'ai nourri et élevé des enfants et ils se sont rebellés contre moi.
3 The oxe knoweth his owner, and the asse his masters crib: but Israel hath not knowen: my people hath not vnderstand.
Le bœuf connaît son propriétaire, et l'âne la crèche de son maître; mais Israël ne le sait pas. Mon peuple n'en tient pas compte. »
4 Ah, sinfull nation, a people laden with iniquitie: a seede of the wicked, corrupt children: they haue forsaken the Lord: they haue prouoked the holy one of Israel to anger: they are gone backewarde.
Ah nation pécheresse, un peuple chargé d'iniquité, la progéniture des méchants, les enfants qui font des affaires corrompues! Ils ont abandonné Yahvé. Ils ont méprisé le Saint d'Israël. Ils sont éloignés et arriérés.
5 Wherefore shoulde ye be smitten any more? for ye fall away more and more: the whole head is sicke, and the whole heart is heauie.
Pourquoi devriez-vous être plus battu, que vous vous révoltez de plus en plus? La tête entière est malade, et le cœur entier s'évanouit.
6 From the sole of the foote vnto the head, there is nothing whole therein, but wounds, and swelling, and sores full of corruption: they haue not bene wrapped, nor bound vp, nor mollified with oyle.
De la plante du pied à la tête, il n'y a pas de solidité, mais les blessures, les zébrures et les plaies ouvertes. Elles n'ont pas été refermées, pansées, ou apaisées avec de l'huile.
7 Your land is waste: your cities are burnt with fire: strangers deuoure your lande in your presence, and it is desolate like the ouerthrowe of strangers.
Ton pays est dévasté. Vos villes sont brûlées par le feu. Les étrangers dévorent votre terre en votre présence et elle est désolée, comme renversé par des étrangers.
8 And the daughter of Zion shall remaine like a cotage in a vineyarde, like a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, and like a besieged citie.
La fille de Sion est abandonnée comme un abri dans une vigne, comme une cabane dans un champ de melons, comme une ville assiégée.
9 Except the Lord of hostes had reserued vnto vs, euen a small remnant: we should haue bene as Sodom, and should haue bene like vnto Gomorah.
A moins que Yahvé des armées ne nous ait laissé un tout petit reste, nous aurions été comme Sodome. Nous aurions été comme Gomorrah.
10 Heare the worde of the Lord, O princes of Sodom: hearken vnto the Law of our God, O people of Gomorah.
Écoutez la parole de Yahvé, chefs de Sodome! Écoutez la loi de notre Dieu, peuple de Gomorrhe!
11 What haue I to doe with the multitude of your sacrifices, sayth the Lord? I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and of the fat of fed beasts: and I desire not the blood of bullocks, nor of lambs, nor of goates.
« Quelle est la multitude de vos sacrifices pour moi? », dit Yahvé. « J'en ai assez des holocaustes de béliers... et la graisse des animaux nourris. Je ne me délecte pas du sang des taureaux, ou d'agneaux, ou de chèvres mâles.
12 When ye come to appeare before me, who required this of your hands to tread in my courts?
Quand tu viendras comparaître devant moi, qui a exigé cela de ta main, pour piétiner mes cours?
13 Bring no more oblations, in vaine: incense is an abomination vnto me: I can not suffer your newe moones, nor Sabbaths, nor solemne dayes (it is iniquitie) nor solemne assemblies.
N'apportez plus d'offrandes vaines. L'encens est une abomination pour moi. Nouvelles lunes, sabbats, et convocations... Je ne supporte pas les assemblées maléfiques.
14 My soule hateth your newe moones and your appointed feastes: they are a burden vnto me: I am weary to beare them.
Mon âme déteste vos nouvelles lunes et vos fêtes fixes. Ils sont un fardeau pour moi. Je suis fatigué de les supporter.
15 And when you shall stretch out your hands, I wil hide mine eyes from you: and though ye make many prayers, I wil not heare: for your hands are full of blood.
Quand tu étends tes mains, je te cache mes yeux. Oui, quand tu fais beaucoup de prières, je n'entends pas. Vos mains sont pleines de sang.
16 Wash you, make you cleane: take away the euill of your workes from before mine eyes: cease to doe euill.
Lavez-vous. Rendez vous propres. Ôtez de devant mes yeux la méchanceté de vos actes. Cessez de faire le mal.
17 Learne to doe well: seeke iudgement, relieue the oppressed: iudge the fatherlesse and defend the widowe.
Apprenez à bien faire. Cherchez la justice. Soulager les opprimés. Défendez les orphelins. Plaidez pour la veuve. »
18 Come nowe, and let vs reason together, sayth the Lord: though your sinnes were as crimsin, they shalbe made white as snowe: though they were red like skarlet, they shalbe as wooll.
« Viens maintenant, et raisonnons ensemble », dit l'Éternel: « Si vos péchés sont comme l'écarlate, ils deviendront blancs comme la neige. Même s'ils sont rouges comme la cramoisie, ils seront comme la laine.
19 If ye consent and obey, ye shall eate the good things of the land.
Si vous êtes volontaires et obéissants, vous mangerez le bien de la terre;
20 But if ye refuse and be rebellious, ye shalbe deuoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
mais si vous refusez et vous rebellez, vous serez dévorés par l'épée; car la bouche de Yahvé l'a dit. »
21 Howe is the faithfull citie become an harlot? it was full of iudgement, and iustice lodged therein, but now they are murtherers.
Comment la ville fidèle est devenue une prostituée! Elle était pleine de justice. La droiture s'est logée en elle, mais maintenant il y a des meurtriers.
22 Thy siluer is become drosse: thy wine is mixt with water.
Votre argent est devenu de la poussière, votre vin mélangé à de l'eau.
23 Thy Princes are rebellious and companions of theeues: euery one loueth giftes, and followeth after rewards: they iudge not the fatherlesse, neither doeth the widowes cause come before them.
Tes princes sont rebelles et compagnons de voleurs. Tout le monde aime les pots-de-vin et suit les récompenses. Ils ne défendent pas les orphelins, la cause de la veuve ne leur revient pas non plus.
24 Therefore sayth the Lord God of hostes, the mightie one of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine aduersaries, and auenge me of mine enemies.
C'est pourquoi l'Éternel, le Yahvé des Armées, le Puissant d'Israël, dit: « Ah, je vais être soulagé de mes adversaires, et me venger de mes ennemis.
25 Then I will turne mine hand vpon thee, and burne out thy drosse, till it be pure, and take away all thy tinne.
Je tournerai ma main vers toi, purgez complètement vos scories, et emportera tout ton étain.
26 And I will restore thy iudges as at the first, and thy counsellers as at the beginning: afterward shalt thou be called a citie of righteousnes, and a faithfull citie.
Je rétablirai vos juges comme au début, et vos conseillers comme au début. Ensuite, on t'appellera « la cité de la justice », une ville fidèle.
27 Zion shall be redeemed in iudgement, and they that returne in her, in iustice.
Sion sera rachetée avec justice, et ses convertis avec droiture.
28 And the destruction of the transgressers and of the sinners shalbe together: and they that forsake the Lord, shalbe consumed.
Mais la destruction des transgresseurs et des pécheurs sera commune, et ceux qui abandonnent Yahvé seront consumés.
29 For they shalbe confounded for the okes, which ye haue desired, and ye shall be ashamed of the gardens, that ye haue chosen.
Car ils auront honte des chênes que tu as désirés, et tu seras confondu pour les jardins que tu as choisis.
30 For ye shalbe as an oke, whose leafe fadeth: and as a garden that hath no water.
Car vous serez comme un chêne dont la feuille se fane, et comme un jardin qui n'a pas d'eau.
31 And the strong shall be as towe, and the maker thereof, as a sparke: and they shall both burne together, and none shall quench them.
Les forts seront comme de l'amadou, et son travail comme une étincelle. Ils brûleront tous les deux ensemble, et personne ne les éteindra. »
