Habakkuk 1
1 The burden, which Habakkuk the Prophet did see.
Malheur accablant qu’a vu Habacuc, le prophète.
2 O Lord, howe long shall I crye, and thou wilt not heare! euen crye out vnto thee for violence, and thou wilt not helpe!
Jusques à quand, Seigneur, crierai-je et vous ne m’exaucerez pas, jusques à quand élèverai-je ma voix avec force vers vous, souffrant violence, et vous ne me sauverez pas?
3 Why doest thou shewe mee iniquitie, and cause me to beholde sorowe? for spoyling, and violence are before me: and there are that rayse vp strife and contention.
Pourquoi m’avez-vous montré l’iniquité et la peine, pourquoi avez-vous fait voir la rapine et l’injustice devant moi? Il y a eu jugement, mais l’opposition a été plus puissante.
4 Therefore the Lawe is dissolued, and iudgement doeth neuer go forth: for the wicked doeth compasse about the righteous: therefore wrong iudgement proceedeth.
À cause de cela, la loi a été déchirée, et le jugement n’est pas parvenu à l’exécution, parce que l’impie prévaut contre le juste; c’est pourquoi il sort de là une décision injuste.
5 Beholde among the heathen, and regarde, and wonder, and maruaile: for I will worke a worke in your dayes: yee will not beleeue it, though it be tolde you.
Jetez les yeux sur les nations, et voyez; admirez et soyez frappés de stupeur: parce qu’il s’est fait en vos jours une œuvre que personne ne croira lorsqu’elle sera racontée.
6 For lo, I raise vp the Caldeans, that bitter and furious nation, which shall goe vpon the breadth of the lande to possesse the dwelling places, that are not theirs.
Car voici que moi je susciterai les Chaldéens, nation cruelle et prompte, qui parcourt l’étendue de la terre, afin de s’emparer des tabernacles qui ne sont pas à elle.
7 They are terrible and fearefull: their iudgement and their dignitie shall proceede of theselues.
Elle est horrible et formidable; c’est d’elle-même que le jugement et la charge sortiront.
8 Their horses also are swifter then the leopards, and are more fierce then the wolues in the euening: and their horsemen are many: and their horsemen shall come from farre: they shall flie as the eagle hasting to meate.
Ses chevaux sont plus légers que les léopards, et plus vîtes que les loups du soir; et ses cavaliers se répandront; car ses cavaliers viendront de loin, ils voleront comme un aigle se hâtant pour manger.
9 They come all to spoyle: before their faces shalbe an Eastwinde, and they shall gather the captiuitie, as the sand.
Tous viendront au butin; leur face est comme un vent brûlant; et ils assembleront les captifs, comme le sable.
10 And they shall mocke the Kings, and the princes shalbe a skorne vnto them: they shall deride euery strong holde: for they shall gather dust, and take it.
Et lui-même triomphera des rois, et les princes seront pour lui un sujet de dérision; lui-même se moquera de toute fortification, et il formera un terrassement, et il la prendra.
11 Then shall they take a courage, and transgresse and doe wickedly, imputing this their power vnto their god.
Alors son esprit sera changé; il passera et tombera; voilà quelle est sa puissance qu’il tient de son Dieu.
12 Art thou not of olde, O Lord my God, mine holy one? we shall not die: O Lord, thou hast ordeined them for iudgement, and O God, thou hast established them for correction.
Est-ce que vous, vous n’êtes pas dès le commencement, Seigneur mon Dieu, mon Saint, pour que nous ne mourions pas? Seigneur, vous l’avez établi pour accomplir votre jugement et vous l’avez rendu fort, afin de le châtier.
13 Thou art of pure eyes, and canst not see euill: thou canst not behold wickednesse: wherefore doest thou looke vpon the transgressors, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked deuoureth the man, that is more righteous then he?
Vos yeux sont purs, afin de ne point voir le mal; vous ne pourrez regarder l’iniquité: pourquoi regardez-vous ceux qui font des iniquités et gardez-vous le silence, l’impie dévorant celui qui est plus juste que lui?
14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, and as the creeping things, that haue no ruler ouer them.
Et vous traitez des hommes comme les poissons de la mer, et comme un reptile qui n’a pas de prince.
15 They take vp all with the angle: they catch it in their net, and gather it in their yarne, whereof they reioyce and are glad.
Il a tout enlevé avec un hameçon, il l’a entraîné dans sa seine, et rassemblé dans son rets. Sur cela il se réjouira, et il exultera.
16 Therefore they sacrifice vnto their net, and burne incense vnto their yarne, because by them their portion is fat and their meat plenteous.
À cause de cela, il immolera des victimes à sa seine, et il sacrifiera à son rets, parce que par eux son partage s’est accru, et sa nourriture a été acquise.
17 Shall they therefore stretch out their net and not spare continually to slay the nations?
À cause de cela, donc il tend sa seine, et jamais il ne s’abstiendra de tuer des nations.
