Habakkuk 2
1 I will stand vpon my watch, and set me vpon the towre, and wil looke and see what he would say vnto mee, and what I shall answere to him that rebuketh me.
Je veux me tenir dans mon donjon et me placer sur la tour et observer pour voir ce qu'il me dira et ce que je répliquerai en sus de mon grief.
2 And the Lord answered me, and sayde, Write the vision, and make it plaine vpon tables, that he may runne that readeth it.
Et l'Éternel me répondit et dit: Écris la vision et la grave sur des tables, afin que couramment on la lise.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the last it shall speake, and not lie: though it tarie, waite: for it shall surely come, and shall not stay.
Car la vision a trait à un temps à venir, mais elle aspire au but, et ne mentira pas; si elle tarde, attends-la, car elle arrivera, elle n'y manquera pas.
4 Beholde, he that lifteth vp himselfe, his minde is not vpright in him, but the iust shall liue by his fayth,
Voici, son âme s'est enflée, elle n'est pas droite en lui, mais le juste par sa foi vivra.
5 Yea, in deede the proude man is as hee that transgresseth by wine: therefore shall he not endure, because he hath enlarged his desire as the hell, and is as death, and can not be satisfied, but gathereth vnto him all nations, and heapeth vnto him all people. (Sheol h7585)
Oui, le vin est insolent, l'homme qu'il enorgueillit n'a point de repos; pareil à l'Enfer, il ouvre une large bouche, et il est comme la mort, et insatiable, et il s'empare de tous les peuples et accapare toutes les nations. (Sheol h7585)
6 Shall not all these take vp a parable against him, and a tanting prouerbe against him, and say, Ho, he that increaseth that which is not his? howe long? and hee that ladeth himselfe with thicke clay?
Toutes ne diront-elles pas sur lui une chanson et des railleries et des sarcasmes, parlant ainsi: Malheur à qui accumulait ce qui n'était pas à lui! jusques à quand?… et à qui se chargeait d'emprunts à gages!
7 Shall they not rise vp suddenly, that shall bite thee? and awake, that shall stirre thee? and thou shalt be their praye?
Ne se lèveront-ils pas soudain, tes créanciers, et ne s'éveilleront-ils pas, tes oppresseurs? Et tu seras leur proie.
8 Because thou hast spoyled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoyle thee, because of mens blood, and for the wrong done in the land, in the citie, and vnto all that dwell therein.
Parce que tu pillas des peuples nombreux, tous les autres peuples te pilleront, à cause du meurtre des hommes et de l'outrage fait au pays, aux villes et à tous leurs habitants.
9 Ho, he that coueteth an euil couetousnesse to his house, that he may set his nest on hie, to escape from the power of euil.
Malheur à qui fait un gain inique pour sa maison, afin de placer son nid sur la hauteur pour se dérober au bras du malheur!
10 Thou hast consulted shame to thine owne house, by destroying many people, and hast sinned against thine owne soule.
Tu décidas l'opprobre de ta maison, la destruction des peuples nombreux, et tu as péché contre toi-même.
11 For the stone shall crie out of the wall, and the beame out of the timber shall answere it.
Car de la muraille la pierre crie, et de la charpente la poutre lui répond.
12 Wo vnto him that buildeth a towne with blood, and erecteth a citie by iniquitie.
Malheur à qui bâtit une ville avec le sang, et fonde une ville avec l'iniquité!
13 Beholde, is it not of the Lord of hostes that the people shall labour in ye very fire? the people shall euen weary themselues for very vanitie.
Voici, n'est-ce pas de par l'Éternel des armées que les peuples se fatiguent pour un feu, et les nations se peinent pour le néant?
14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters couer the sea.
Car la terre se remplira de la connaissance de la gloire de l'Éternel, de même que les eaux recouvrent la mer.
15 Wo vnto him that giueth his neighbour drinke: thou ioynest thine heate, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest see their priuities.
Malheur à qui fait boire son prochain! à toi qui lui verses le feu de ton vin et l'enivres pour voir sa nudité!
16 Thou art filled with shame for glorie: drinke thou also, and be made naked: the cup of the Lords right hand shall be turned vnto thee, and shamefull spuing shalbe for thy glory.
Tu seras rassasié d'opprobre au lieu de gloire; bois aussi toi-même et découvre ton prépuce! qu'elle arrive à toi la coupe de la droite de l'Éternel, et que l'ignominie couvre ta gloire!
17 For the crueltie of Lebanon shall couer thee: so shall the spoyle of the beastes, which made them afraide, because of mens blood, and for the wrong done in the land, in the citie, and vnto all that dwell therein.
Car la violence faite au Liban retombera sur toi, ainsi que la ruine des bêtes qu'elle épouvanta, à cause du meurtre des hommes et de la violence faite au pays, à la ville et a tous ses habitants.
18 What profiteth the image? for the maker thereof hath made it an image, and a teacher of lies, though he that made it, trust therein, when he maketh dumme idoles.
A quoi sert l'idole, pour que le sculpteur la taille? la statue et le docteur de mensonges, pour que le sculpteur se confie en sa sculpture en faisant des idoles muettes?
19 Wo vnto him that sayth to the wood, Awake, and to the dumme stone, Rise vp, it shall teach thee: beholde, it is layde ouer with golde and siluer, and there is no breath in it.
Malheur à qui dit au bois: « Éveille-toi! » « Lève-toi! » à la pierre muette, « qu'elle enseigne! » Voici, elle est plaquée d'or et d'argent, et il n'y a point d'esprit au dedans d'elle.
20 But the Lord is in his holy Temple: let all the earth keepe silence before him.
Mais l'Éternel est dans son temple saint! Que toute la terre se taise devant lui!
