Genesis 50
1 Then Ioseph fell vpon his fathers face and wept vpon him, and kissed him.
Et Joseph se jeta sur le visage de son père, et pleura sur lui, et l’embrassa.
2 And Ioseph commanded his seruantes the physicions, to enbaume his father, and the physicions enbaumed Israel.
Et Joseph commanda à ses serviteurs, les médecins, d’embaumer son père; et les médecins embaumèrent Israël.
3 So fourtie dayes were accomplished (for so long did the dayes of them that were enbaumed last) and the Egyptians bewayled him seuentie dayes.
Et 40 jours s’accomplirent pour lui; car ainsi s’accomplissaient les jours de l’embaumement. Et les Égyptiens le pleurèrent 70 jours.
4 And when the dayes of his mourning were past, Ioseph spake to the house of Pharaoh, saying, If I haue nowe found fauour in your eyes, speake, I pray you, in the eares of Pharaoh, and say,
Et les jours où on le pleura étant passés, Joseph parla à la maison du Pharaon, disant: Si j’ai trouvé grâce à vos yeux, parlez, je vous prie, aux oreilles du Pharaon, disant:
5 My father made me sweare, saying, Loe, I die, bury me in my graue, which I haue made me in the land of Canaan: now therefore let me go, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I wil come againe.
Mon père m’a fait jurer, disant: Voici, je meurs; dans le sépulcre que je me suis taillé dans le pays de Canaan, là tu m’enterreras. Et maintenant, permets que je monte, et que j’enterre mon père; et je reviendrai.
6 Then Pharaoh said, Goe vp and bury thy father, as he made thee to sweare.
Et le Pharaon dit: Monte, et enterre ton père, comme il t’a fait jurer.
7 So Ioseph went vp to bury his father, and with him went all the seruants of Pharaoh, both the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt.
Et Joseph monta pour enterrer son père; et tous les serviteurs du Pharaon, les anciens de sa maison, et tous les anciens du pays d’Égypte, montèrent avec lui,
8 Likewise all the house of Ioseph, and his brethren, and his fathers house: onely their children, and their sheepe, and their cattell left they in the land of Goshen.
et toute la maison de Joseph, et ses frères, et la maison de son père; seulement ils laissèrent leurs petits enfants, et leur menu et leur gros bétail dans le pays de Goshen.
9 And there went vp with him both charets and horsemen: and they were an exceeding great company.
Et avec lui montèrent aussi des chariots et des cavaliers; et il y eut un très gros camp.
10 And they came to Goren Atad, which is beyond Iorden, and there they made a great and exceeding sore lamentation: and he mourned for his father seuen dayes.
Et ils vinrent à l’aire d’Atad, qui est au-delà du Jourdain, et ils s’y lamentèrent de grandes et profondes lamentations; et [Joseph] fit à son père un deuil de sept jours.
11 And when the Canaanites the inhabitants of the lande sawe the mourning in Goren Atad, they sayde, This is a great mourning vnto the Egyptians: wherefore the name thereof was called Abel Mizraim, which is beyond Iorden.
Et les habitants du pays, les Cananéens, virent le deuil dans l’aire d’Atad, et ils dirent: C’est ici un grand deuil pour les Égyptiens. C’est pourquoi on appela son nom Abel-Mitsraïm, – qui est au-delà du Jourdain.
12 So his sonnes did vnto him, according as he had commanded them:
Et les fils de Jacob firent pour lui comme il leur avait commandé;
13 For his sonnes caried him into the lande of Canaan, and buried him in the caue of the fielde of Machpelah, which caue Abraham bought with the fielde, to be a place to bury in, of Ephron the Hittite besides Mamre.
et ses fils le transportèrent dans le pays de Canaan, et l’enterrèrent dans la caverne du champ de Macpéla, qu’Abraham avait achetée d’Éphron, le Héthien, avec le champ, en face de Mamré, pour la posséder comme sépulcre.
14 Then Ioseph returned into Egypt, he and his brethren, and al that went vp with him to bury his father, after that he had buried his father.
Et Joseph, après qu’il eut enterré son père, retourna en Égypte, lui et ses frères, et tous ceux qui étaient montés avec lui pour enterrer son père.
15 And when Iosephs brethren saw that their father was dead, they sayde, It may be that Ioseph will hate vs, and will pay vs againe all the euill, which we did vnto him.
Et les frères de Joseph virent que leur père était mort, et ils dirent: Peut-être Joseph nous haïra-t-il, et ne manquera-t-il pas de nous rendre tout le mal que nous lui avons fait.
16 Therefore they sent vnto Ioseph, saying, Thy father commanded before his death, saying,
Et ils firent dire à Joseph, disant: Ton père a commandé avant sa mort, disant:
17 Thus shall ye say vnto Ioseph, Forgiue now, I pray thee, the trespasse of thy brethren, and their sinne: for they rewarded thee euil. And nowe, we pray thee, forgiue the trespasse of the seruants of thy fathers God. And Ioseph wept, when they spake vnto him.
Vous direz ainsi à Joseph: Pardonne, je te prie, la transgression de tes frères, et leur péché; car ils t’ont fait du mal. Et maintenant, pardonne, nous te prions, la transgression des serviteurs du Dieu de ton père. Et Joseph pleura quand ils lui parlèrent.
18 Also his brethren came vnto him, and fell downe before his face, and sayde, Beholde, we be thy seruants.
Et ses frères aussi allèrent, et tombèrent [sur leurs faces] devant lui, et dirent: Nous voici, nous sommes tes serviteurs.
19 To whome Ioseph sayde, Feare not: for am not I vnder God?
Et Joseph leur dit: Ne craignez point; car suis-je à la place de Dieu?
20 When ye thought euill against mee, God disposed it to good, that he might bring to passe, as it is this day, and saue much people aliue.
Vous, vous aviez pensé du mal contre moi: Dieu l’a pensé en bien, pour faire comme il en est aujourd’hui, afin de conserver la vie à un grand peuple.
21 Feare not nowe therefore, I will nourish you, and your children: and hee comforted them, and spake kindly vnto them.
Et maintenant, ne craignez point; moi je vous entretiendrai, vous et vos petits enfants. Et il les consola, et parla à leur cœur.
22 So Ioseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his fathers house: and Ioseph liued an hundreth and tenne yeere.
Et Joseph habita en Égypte, lui et la maison de son père; et Joseph vécut 110 ans.
23 And Ioseph saw Ephraims children, euen vnto the third generation: also the sonnes of Machir the sonne of Manasseh were brought vp on Iosephs knees.
Et Joseph vit les fils d’Éphraïm de la troisième [génération]; les fils aussi de Makir, fils de Manassé, naquirent sur les genoux de Joseph.
24 And Ioseph sayd vnto his brethren, I am ready to dye, and God will surely visite you, and bring you out of this land, vnto ye land which hee sware vnto Abraham, vnto Izhak, and vnto Iaakob.
Et Joseph dit à ses frères: Je meurs, et Dieu vous visitera certainement, et vous fera monter de ce pays-ci dans le pays qu’il a promis par serment à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.
25 And Ioseph tooke an othe of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visite you, and ye shall cary my bones hence.
Et Joseph fit jurer les fils d’Israël, disant: Certainement Dieu vous visitera, et vous ferez monter d’ici mes os.
26 So Ioseph died, when he was an hundreth and ten yere olde: and they enbaumed him and put him in a chest in Egypt.
Et Joseph mourut, âgé de 110 ans; et on l’embauma, et on le mit dans un cercueil en Égypte.
