Genesis 49

1 Then Iaakob called his sonnes, and sayde, Gather your selues together, that I may tell you what shall come to you in the last dayes.

Or Jacob appela ses fils et leur dit: Assemblez-vous, afin que je vous annonce ce qui doit vous arriver dans les jours derniers.

2 Gather your selues together, and heare, ye sonnes of Iaakob, and hearken vnto Israel your father.

Assemblez-vous, et écoutez, fils de Jacob, écoutez Israël votre père:

3 Reuben mine eldest sonne, thou art my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellencie of dignitie, and the excellencie of power:

Ruben, mon premier-né, toi ma force et le principe de ma douleur; premier en dons, plus grand en puissance,

4 Thou wast light as water: thou shalt not be excellent, because thou wentest vp to thy fathers bed: then diddest thou defile my bed, thy dignitie is gone.

Tu t’es répandu comme l’eau; tu ne croîtras pas, parce que tu es monté sur le lit de ton père, et que tu as souillé sa couche.

5 Simeon and Leui, brethren in euill, the instruments of crueltie are in their habitations.

Siméon et Lévi sont frères, instruments d’iniquité dans le combat.

6 Into their secret let not my soule come: my glory, be not thou ioyned with their assembly: for in their wrath they slew a man, and in their selfe will they digged downe a wall.

Que dans leur conseil n’entre pas mon âme, et que dans leurs assemblées ne se trouve pas ma gloire, parce que dans leur fureur, ils ont tué un homme, et que dans leur résolution ils ont renversé un mur.

7 Cursed be their wrath, for it was fierce, and their rage, for it was cruell: I will deuide them in Iaakob, and scatter them in Israel.

Maudite leur fureur, parce qu’elle est opiniâtre, et leur indignation, parce qu’elle est implacable! je les diviserai dans Jacob, et je les disperserai dans Israël.

8 Thou Iudah, thy brethre shall praise thee: thine hande shalbe in the necke of thine enemies: thy fathers sonnes shall bowe downe vnto thee.

Juda, tes frères te loueront; ta main sera sur le cou de tes ennemis; les enfants de ton père se prosterneront devant toi.

9 Iudah, as a Lions whelpe shalt thou come vp from the spoyle, my sonne. He shall lye downe and couche as a Lion, and as a Lionesse: Who shall stirre him vp?

C’est le petit d’un lion, que Juda. Tu t’es élancé sur la proie, ô mon fils: te reposant, tu t’es couché comme le lion et comme la lionne; qui le provoquera?

10 The scepter shall not depart from Iudah, nor a Lawegiuer from betweene his feete, vntill Shiloh come, and the people shall be gathered vnto him.

Le sceptre ne sera pas ôté de Juda, ni le prince de sa postérité, jusqu’à ce que vienne celui qui doit être envoyé, et lui-même sera l’attente des nations.

11 He shall binde his Asse foale vnto ye vine, and his Asses colte vnto the best vine. hee shall wash his garment in wine, and his cloke in the blood of grapes.

Il liera, ô mon fils, à la vigne son ânon, et au cep son ânesse. Il lavera dans le vin sa robe, et dans le sang du raisin son manteau.

12 His eyes shalbe red with wine, and his teeth white with milke.

Ses yeux sont plus beaux que le vin, et ses dents plus blanches que le lait.

13 Zebulun shall dwell by the sea side, and he shalbe an hauen for shippes: and his border shalbe vnto Zidon.

Zabulon habitera sur le rivage de la mer, et près du port des navires, s’étendant jusqu’à Sidon.

14 Issachar shalbe a strong asse, couching downe betweene two burdens:

Issachar, âne robuste, couché au milieu de son héritage.

15 And he shall see that rest is good, and that the land is pleasant, and he shall bow his shoulder to beare, and shalbe subiect vnto tribute.

Il a vu que le repos était bon, et que sa terre était excellente; il a soumis son épaule aux fardeaux, et il s’est assujetti aux tributs.

16 Dan shall iudge his people as one of the tribes of Israel.

Dan jugera son peuple, aussi bien qu’une autre tribu en Israël.

17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder by the path, byting the horse heeles, so that his rider shall fall backward.

Que Dan devienne un serpent sur le chemin, un céraste dans le sentier, mordant le talon du cheval, afin que son cavalier tombe à la renverse.

18 O Lord, I haue waited for thy saluation.

C’est votre Salut que j’attendrai, Seigneur.

19 Gad, an hoste of men shall ouercome him, but he shall ouercome at the last.

Gad tout armé combattra devant lui; et lui-même se revêtira de ses armes en arrière.

20 Concerning Asher, his bread shalbe fat, and he shall giue pleasures for a king.

Aser, gras est son pain, et il fournira des délices aux rois

21 Naphtali shalbe a hinde let goe, giuing goodly wordes.

Nephthali, cerf échappé; il donne des paroles pleines de beauté.

22 Ioseph shalbe a fruitefull bough, euen a fruitful bough by the well side: the small boughs shall runne vpon the wall.

Joseph, fils croissant, fils croissant et beau à voir: les jeunes filles ont couru sur la muraille.

23 And the archers grieued him, and shotte against him and hated him.

Mais ils l’ont irrité, ils l’ont querellé, et ils lui ont porté envie, ceux qui avaient des dards.

24 But his bowe abode strong, and the hands of his armes were strengthened, by the handes of the mighty God of Iaakob, of whom was the feeder appointed, by the stone of Israel,

Son arc s’est appuyé sur le fort; les liens de ses bras et de ses mains ont été brisés par les mains du puissant de Jacob; de là il est sorti pasteur, pierre d’Israël.

25 Euen by the God of thy father, who shall helpe thee, and by the almightie, who shall blesse thee with heauenly blessinges from aboue, with blessings of the deepe, that lyeth beneath, with blessings of the brestes, and of the wombe.

Le Dieu de ton père sera ton soutien, et le Tout-Puissant te bénira des bénédictions célestes d’en haut, des bénédictions de l’abîme qui est en bas, des bénédictions de mamelles et de sein.

26 The blessings of thy father shalbe stronger then the blessings of mine elders: vnto the ende of the hilles of the worlde they shall be on the head of Ioseph, and on the top of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

Les bénédictions de ton père seront fortifiées par les bénédictions de ses pères jusqu’à ce que vienne le désir des collines éternelles; qu’elles se répandent sur la tête de Joseph et sur la tête de celui qui est Nazaréen entre ses frères.

27 Beniamin shall rauine as a wolfe: in the morning he shall deuoure the pray, and at night he shall deuide the spoyle.

Benjamin, loup ravissant: le matin, il dévorera la proie, et le soir, il partagera les dépouilles.

28 All these are the twelue tribes of Israel, and thus their father spake vnto them, and blessed them: euery one of them blessed hee with a seuerall blessing.

Tous ceux-là sont les douze dans les tribus d’Israël: ainsi leur parla leur père, et il les bénit les uns après les autres des bénédictions propres à chacun deux.

29 And he charged them and sayd vnto them, I am ready to be gathered vnto my people: burie mee with my fathers in the caue, that is in the fielde of Ephron the Hittite,

Et il leur commanda, disant; Je vais être réuni à mon peuple: ensevelissez-moi avec mes pères dans la caverne double qui est dans le champ d’Ephron l’Hétéen,

30 In the caue that is in the field of Machpelah besides Mamre in the land of Canaan: which caue Abraham bought with the fielde of Ephron the Hittite for a possession to burie in.

Vis-à-vis de Mambré dans la terre de Chanaan, et qu’Abraham acheta d’Ephron l’Hétéen, avec le champ, pour y posséder un sépulcre.

31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife: there they buryed Izhak and Rebekah his wife: and there I buried Leah.

C’est là qu’on l’a enseveli lui et Sara sa femme: là a été enseveli Isaac avec Rébecca sa femme: là aussi, ensevelie, repose Lia.

32 The purchase of the fielde and the caue that is therein, was bought of the children of Heth.

Les recommandations qu’il adressait à ses fils achevées, il retira ses pieds sur son lit, et mourut; et il fut réuni à son peuple.

33 Thus Iaakob made an end of giuing charge to his sonnes, and plucked vp his feete into the bed and gaue vp the ghost, and was gathered to his people.
