Genesis 44
1 Afterward he commanded his steward, saying, Fill the mens sackes with foode, as much as they can carry, and put euery mans money in his sackes mouth.
E [GIUSEPPE] comandò, e disse al suo mastro di casa: Empi le sacca di questi uomini di vittuaglia, quanto essi ne potranno portare; e rimetti i danari di ciascuno di essi alla bocca del suo sacco.
2 And put my cup, I meane the siluer cup, in the sackes mouth of the yongest, and his corne money. And he did according to the commandement that Ioseph gaue him.
Metti eziandio la mia coppa, quella coppa di argento, alla bocca del sacco del minore, insieme co' danari del suo grano. Ed egli fece come Giuseppe gli avea detto.
3 And in the morning the men were sent away, they, and their asses.
In su lo schiarir della mattina, quegli uomini furono accommiatati co' loro asini.
4 And when they went out of the citie not farre off, Ioseph sayd to his stewarde, Vp, follow after the men: and when thou doest ouertake them, say vnto them, Wherefore haue ye rewarded euill for good?
Essendo usciti fuor della città, [e] non essendo ancora lungi, Giuseppe disse al suo mastro di casa: Levati, persegui quegli uomini; e, quando tu li avrai aggiunti, di' loro: Perchè avete voi renduto mal per bene?
5 Is that not the cuppe, wherein my Lord drinketh? and in the which he doeth deuine and prophecie? ye haue done euill in so doing.
Non [è] quella [la coppa], nella quale il mio signore suol bere, per la quale egli suole indovinare? voi avete malvagiamente operato [in ciò] che avete fatto.
6 And when he ouertooke them, he sayde those wordes vnto them.
Egli adunque li raggiunse, e disse loro quelle parole.
7 And they answered him, Wherefore sayeth my lorde such wordes? God forbid that thy seruants should do such a thing.
Ed essi gli dissero: Perchè dice il mio signore cotali parole? tolga Iddio che i tuoi servitori facciano una cotal cosa.
8 Behold, the money which we found in our sackes mouthes, wee brought againe to thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steale out of thy lordes house siluer or golde?
Ecco, noi ti riportammo dal paese di Canaan i danari che avevamo trovati alle bocche delle nostre sacca; come dunque avremmo noi rubato della casa del tuo signore oro od argento?
9 With whomesoeuer of thy seruants it bee found, let him dye, and we also will be my lordes bondmen.
Muoia colui de' tuoi servitori, appo il quale [quella coppa] sarà trovata; e oltre a ciò noi saremo servi al mio signore.
10 And he said, Now then let it be according vnto your wordes: he with whome it is found, shall be my seruant, and ye shalbe blamelesse.
Ed egli disse: Quantunque ora [fosse] ragionevole [di far] secondo le vostre parole, [pur nondimeno] colui [solo] appo il quale ella sarà trovata, mi sarà servo, e voi altri sarete sciolti.
11 Then at once euery man tooke downe his sacke to the grounde, and euery one opened his sacke.
E ciascun d'essi mise giù il suo sacco in terra, e l'aperse.
12 And he searched, and began at the eldest and left at the yongest: and the cuppe was found in Beniamins sacke.
E [il maestro di casa li] frugò [tutti], cominciando dal [sacco del] maggiore, e finendo a [quel del] minore; e la coppa fu ritrovata nel sacco di Beniamino.
13 Then they rent their clothes, and laded euery man his asse, and went againe into the citie.
Allora essi stracciarono i lor vestimenti; e, caricato ciascuno il suo asino, tornarono nella città.
14 So Iudah and his brethren came to Iosephs house (for he was yet there) and they fel before him on the ground.
E Giuda, co' suoi fratelli, entrò nella casa di Giuseppe, il quale [era] ancora quivi; ed essi si gittarono in terra davanti a lui.
15 Then Ioseph sayd vnto them, What acte is this, which ye haue done? know ye not that such a man as I, can deuine and prophecie?
E Giuseppe disse loro: Quale [è] questo atto che voi avete fatto? non sapete voi che un par mio per certo indovina?
16 Then sayd Iudah, What shall we say vnto my lord? what shall we speake? and howe can we iustifie our selues? God hath found out the wickednesse of thy seruants: beholde, we are seruants to my Lord, both wee, and he, with whome the cuppe is founde.
E Giuda disse: Che diremo al mio signore? quali parole useremo? e come ci giustificheremo noi? Iddio ha ritrovata l'iniquità de' tuoi servitori; ecco, noi [siamo] servi al mio signore, così noi [altri], come colui appo il quale è stata ritrovata la coppa.
17 But he answered, God forbid, that I should doe so, but the man, with whome the cuppe is founde, he shalbe my seruant, and go ye in peace vnto your father.
Ma [Giuseppe] disse: Tolga Iddio che io faccia questo; colui, appo il quale è stata trovata la coppa, mi sia servo, e voi [altri] ritornatevene in pace a vostro padre.
18 Then Iudah drewe neere vnto him, and sayde, O my Lord, let thy seruant nowe speake a worde in my lordes eares, and let not thy wrath be kindled against thy seruant: for thou art euen as Pharaoh.
E Giuda gli si accostò, e disse: Ahi! signor mio: deh! [lascia] che il tuo servitore dica una parola al mio signore, e non accendasi la tua ira contro al tuo servitore; conciossiachè tu sii appunto come Faraone.
19 My Lord asked his seruants, saying, Haue ye a father, or a brother?
Il mio signore domandò i suoi servitori, dicendo: Avete voi padre o fratello?
20 And we answered my Lord, We haue a father that is olde, and a young childe, which he begate in his age: and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loueth him.
Enoi: dicemmo al mio signore: Noi abbiamo un padre vecchio, e un giovane piccol fratello, nato [a nostro padre] nella [sua] vecchiezza, e il suo fratello è morto; talchè egli è rimasto solo di sua madre, e suo padre l'ama.
21 Now thou saidest vnto thy seruants, Bring him vnto me, that I may set mine eye vpon him.
Allora tu dicesti a' tuoi servitori: Menatemelo, ed io porrò l'occhio mio sopra lui.
22 And we answered my lord, The childe can not depart from his father: for if he leaue his father, his father would die.
E noi dicemmo al mio signore: Il fanciullo non può lasciar suo padre; perciocchè s'egli lo lasciasse, suo padre morrebbe.
23 Then saydest thou vnto thy seruants, Except your yonger brother come downe with you, looke in my face no more.
E tu dicesti a' tuoi servitori: Se il vostro fratel minore non iscende con voi, voi non vedrete più la mia faccia.
24 So when we came vnto thy seruant our father, and shewed him what my lord had sayd,
Come dunque fummo ritornati a mio padre, tuo servitore, gli rapportammo le parole del mio signore.
25 And our father sayde vnto vs, Goe againe, bye vs a litle foode,
Dipoi nostro padre disse: Tornate a comperarci un poco di vittuaglia.
26 Then we answered, We can not go downe: but if our yongest brother go with vs, then will we go downe: for we may not see the mans face, except our yongest brother be with vs.
E noi dicemmo: Noi non possiamo scender [là; ma], se il nostro fratello minore è con noi, noi vi scenderemo; perciocchè noi non possiam veder la faccia di quell'uomo, se il nostro fratel minore non [è] con noi.
27 Then thy seruant my father sayde vnto vs, Ye knowe that my wife bare me two sonnes,
E mio padre, tuo servitore, ci disse: Voi sapete che mia moglie mi partorì due [figliuoli].
28 And the one went out from me, and I said, Of a suretie he is torne in pieces, and I sawe him not since.
L'uno de' quali, essendosi dipartito d'appresso a me, io ho detto: Certo egli del tutto è stato lacerato; ed io non l'ho veduto fino ad ora.
29 Nowe yee take this also away from me: if death take him, then yee shall bring my graye head in sorowe to the graue. (Sheol h7585)
E se voi togliete ancora questo d'appresso a me, e gli avviene alcuna mortal sciagura, voi farete scender la mia canutezza con afflizione nel sepolcro. (Sheol h7585)
30 Nowe therefore, when I come to thy seruant my father, and the childe be not with vs (seeing that his life dependeth on the childes life)
Ora dunque se, quando io giungerò a mio padre, tuo servitore, il fanciullo, alla cui anima la sua è legata, non è con noi;
31 Then when hee shall see that the childe is not come, he will die: so shall thy seruants bring the graye head of thy seruant our father with sorowe to the graue. (Sheol h7585)
egli avverrà che, come vedrà che il fanciullo non [vi sarà], egli si morrà; e [così] i tuoi servitori avranno fatto scender la canutezza di nostro padre, tuo servitore, con cordoglio, nel sepolcro. (Sheol h7585)
32 Doubtlesse thy seruant became suertie for the childe to my father, and said, If I bring him not vnto thee againe, then I will beare the blame vnto my father for euer.
[Ora], perciocchè il tuo servitore ha assicurato di questo fanciullo a mio padre, [menandonelo] d'appresso a lui, dicendo: Se io non te lo riconduco, io sarò colpevole inverso mio padre in perpetuo;
33 Nowe therefore, I pray thee, let me thy seruant bide for the childe, as a seruant to my Lord, and let the childe go vp with his brethren.
deh! [lascia] ora che il tuo servitore rimanga servo al mio signore, in luogo del fanciullo, e che il fanciullo se ne ritorni co' suoi fratelli.
34 For how can I go vp to my father, if the childe be not with me, vnlesse I woulde see the euil that shall come on my father?
Perciocchè, come ritornerei io a mio padre, non [essendo] il fanciullo meco? [Io non potrei farlo], che talora io non vedessi l'afflizione che ne avverrebbe a mio padre.
