Genesis 42
1 Then Iaakob saw that there was foode in Egypt, and Iaakob said vnto his sonnes, Why gaze ye one vpon an other?
E vendo Jacó que no Egito havia alimentos, disse a seus filhos: Por que estais olhando uns para os outros?
2 And he said, Behold, I haue heard that there is foode in Egypt, Get you downe thither, and bie vs foode thence, that we may liue and not die.
E disse: Eis que, eu ouvi que há alimentos no Egito; descei ali, e comprai dali para nós, para que possamos viver, e não nos morramos.
3 So went Iosephs ten brethren downe to bye corne of the Egyptians.
E desceram os dez irmãos de José a comprar trigo ao Egito.
4 But Beniamin Iosephs brother woulde not Iaakob send with his brethren: for he saide, Least death should befall him.
Mas Jacó não enviou a Benjamim irmão de José com seus irmãos; porque disse: Não seja acaso que lhe aconteça algum desastre.
5 And the sonnes of Israel came to bye foode among them that came: for there was famine in the land of Canaan.
E vieram os filhos de Israel a comprar entre os que vinham: porque havia fome na terra de Canaã.
6 Now Ioseph was gouerner of the land, who solde to all the people of the lande: then Iosephs brethren came, and bowed their face to the groud before him.
E José era o senhor da terra, que vendia a todo o povo da terra: e chegaram os irmãos de José, e inclinaram-se a ele rosto por terra.
7 And when Ioseph sawe his brethren, hee knewe them, and made himselfe straunge toward them, and spake to them roughly, and saide vnto them, Whence come yee? Who answered, Out of the land of Canaan, to bye vitaile.
E José quando viu seus irmãos, reconheceu-os; mas fez que não os conhecesse, e falou-lhes asperamente, e lhes disse: De onde viestes? Eles responderam: Da terra de Canaã, para comprar alimentos.
8 (Now Ioseph knewe his brethren, but they knew not him.
José, pois, reconheceu a seus irmãos; mas eles não o reconheceram.
9 And Ioseph remembred the dreames, which he dreamed of them) and he sayde vnto them, Ye are spies, and are come to see the weaknesse of the land.
Então se lembrou José dos sonhos que havia tido deles, e disse-lhes: Sois espias; viestes ver a fraqueza desta terra.
10 But they sayde vnto him, Nay, my lorde, but to bye vitayle thy seruants are come.
E eles lhe responderam: Não, meu senhor; teus servos vieram comprar alimentos.
11 Wee are all one mans sonnes: wee meane truely, and thy seruants are no spies.
Todos nós somos filhos de um homem; somos homens honestos; teus servos nunca foram espias.
12 But he saide vnto them, Nay, but yee are come to see the weakenes of the land.
E ele lhes disse: Não; viestes ver a fraqueza desta terra.
13 And they said, We thy seruants are twelue brethren, the sonnes of one man in the lande of Canaan: and beholde, the yongest is this day with our father, and one is not.
E eles responderam: Teus servos somos doze irmãos, filhos de um homem na terra de Canaã; e eis que o menor está hoje com nosso pai, e outro desapareceu.
14 Againe Ioseph sayde vnto them, This is it that I spake vnto you, saying, Ye are spies.
E José lhes disse: Isso é o que vos disse, afirmando que sois espias;
15 Hereby ye shall be proued: by the life of Pharaoh, ye shall not goe hence, except your yongest brother come hither.
Nisto sereis provados: Vive Faraó que não saireis daqui, a não ser quando vosso irmão menor vier aqui.
16 Send one of you which may fet your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proued, whether there bee trueth in you: or els by the life of Pharaoh ye are but spies.
Enviai um de vós, e traga a vosso irmão; e vós ficai presos, e vossas palavras serão provadas, se há verdade convosco: e se não, vive Faraó, que sois espias.
17 So he put them in warde three dayes.
E juntou-os no cárcere por três dias.
18 Then Ioseph said vnto them the third day, This do, and liue: for I feare God.
E ao terceiro dia disse-lhes José: Fazei isto, e vivei; eu temo a Deus;
19 If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bounde in your prison house, and goe ye, carie foode for the famine of your houses:
Se sois homens honestos, fique preso na casa de vosso cárcere um de vossos irmãos; e vós ide, levai o alimento para a fome de vossa casa;
20 But bring your yonger brother vnto me, that your wordes may be tried, and that ye dye not: and they did so.
Porém haveis de trazer-me a vosso irmão mais novo, e serão comprovadas vossas palavras, e não morrereis. E eles o fizeram assim.
21 And they said one to another, We haue verily sinned against our brother, in that we sawe the anguish of his soule, when he besought vs, and we would not heare him: therefore is this trouble come vpon vs.
E diziam um ao outro: Verdadeiramente pecamos contra nosso irmão, que vimos a angústia de sua alma quando nos rogava, e não o ouvimos; por isso veio sobre nós esta angústia.
22 And Reuben answered them, saying, Warned I not you, saying, Sinne not against the childe, and ye would not heare? and lo, his blood is now required.
Então Rúben lhes respondeu, dizendo: Não vos falei eu e disse: Não pequeis contra o jovem; e não escutastes? Eis que também o sangue dele é requerido.
23 (And they were not aware that Ioseph vnderstoode them: for he spake vnto them by an interpreter.)
E eles não sabiam que os entendia José, porque havia intérprete entre eles.
24 Then he turned from them, and wept, and turned to them againe, and communed with them, and tooke Simeon from among them, and bounde him before their eyes.
E apartou-se ele deles, e chorou: depois voltou a eles, e lhes falou, e tomou dentre eles a Simeão, e aprisionou-lhe à vista deles.
25 So Ioseph commanded that they should fill their sackes with wheate, and put euery mans money againe in his sacke, and giue them vitaile for the iourney: and thus did he vnto them.
E mandou José que enchessem seus sacos de trigo, e devolvessem o dinheiro de cada um deles, pondo-o em seu saco, e lhes dessem comida para o caminho; e fez-se assim com eles.
26 And they layed their vitaile vpon their asses, and departed thence.
E eles puseram seu trigo sobre seus asnos, e foram-se dali.
27 And as one of them opened his sacke for to giue his asse prouender in the ynne, he espyed his money: for lo, it was in his sackes mouth.
E abrindo um deles seu saco para dar de comer a seu asno no lugar de parada, viu seu dinheiro que estava na boca de seu saco.
28 Then he sayde vnto his brethren, My money is restored: for loe, it is euen in my sacke. And their heart fayled them, and they were astonished, and sayde one to another, What is this, that God hath done vnto vs?
E disse a seus irmãos: Meu dinheiro se me foi devolvido, e ainda ei-lo aqui em meu saco. Alarmou-se, então, o coração deles e, espantados, disseram um ao outro: Que é isto que Deus nos fez?
29 And they came vnto Iaakob their father vnto the lande of Canaan, and tolde him all that had befallen them, saying,
E vindos a Jacó seu pai em terra de Canaã, contaram-lhe tudo o que lhes havia acontecido, dizendo:
30 The man, who is Lord of the lande, spake roughly to vs, and put vs in prison as spyes of the countrey.
Aquele homem, senhor da terra, nos falou asperamente, e nos tratou como espias da terra:
31 And we sayd vnto him, We are true men, and are no spies.
E nós lhe dissemos: Somos homens honestos, nunca fomos espias:
32 We be twelue brethren, sonnes of our father: one is not, and the yongest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.
Somos doze irmãos, filhos de nosso pai; um desapareceu, e o menor está hoje com nosso pai na terra de Canaã.
33 Then the Lord of the countrey sayde vnto vs, Hereby shall I knowe if ye be true men: Leaue one of your brethren with me, and take foode for the famine of your houses and depart,
E aquele homem, senhor da terra, nos disse: Nisto conhecerei que sois homens honestos; deixai comigo um de vossos irmãos, e tomai para a fome de vossas casas, e ide,
34 And bring your yongest brother vnto me, that I may knowe that ye are no spies, but true men: so will I deliuer you your brother, and yee shall occupie in the land.
E trazei-me a vosso irmão o mais novo, para que eu saiba que não sois espias, mas sim homens honestos: assim vos darei a vosso irmão, e negociareis na terra.
35 And as they emptied their sacks, behold, euery mans bundel of money was in his sacke: and when they and their father sawe the bundels of their money, they were afrayde.
E aconteceu que esvaziando eles seus sacos, eis que no saco de cada um estava o pacote de seu dinheiro: e vendo eles e seu pai os pacotes de seu dinheiro, tiveram temor.
36 Then Iaakob their father said to them, Ye haue robbed me of my children: Ioseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Beniamin: all these things are against me.
Então seu pai Jacó lhes disse: Vós me privastes de meus filhos; José desapareceu, nem Simeão tampouco, e a Benjamim o levareis; contra mim são todas estas coisas.
37 Then Reuben answered his father, saying, Slay my two sonnes, if I bring him not to thee againe: deliuer him to mine hand, and I will bring him to thee againe.
E Rúben falou a seu pai, dizendo: Podes matar meus dois filhos, se eu não o devolver a ti; entrega-o em minha mão, que eu o devolverei a ti.
38 But he said, My sonne shall not go downe with you: for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if death come vnto him by the way which ye goe, then ye shall bring my gray head with sorow vnto the graue. (Sheol h7585)
E ele disse: Não descerá meu filho convosco; que seu irmão é morto, e ele somente restou; e se lhe acontecer algum desastre no caminho por onde vades, fareis descer meus cabelos brancos com tristeza ao Xeol. (Sheol h7585)
