Genesis 42
1 Then Iaakob saw that there was foode in Egypt, and Iaakob said vnto his sonnes, Why gaze ye one vpon an other?
Vendo então Jacob que havia mantimento no Egypto, disse Jacob a seus filhos: Porque estaes olhando uns para os outros?
2 And he said, Behold, I haue heard that there is foode in Egypt, Get you downe thither, and bie vs foode thence, that we may liue and not die.
Disse mais: Eis que tenho ouvido que ha mantimentos no Egypto; descei para lá, e comprae-nos d'ali, para que vivamos e não morramos.
3 So went Iosephs ten brethren downe to bye corne of the Egyptians.
Então desceram os dez irmãos de José, para comprarem trigo do Egypto.
4 But Beniamin Iosephs brother woulde not Iaakob send with his brethren: for he saide, Least death should befall him.
A Benjamin, porém, irmão de José não enviou Jacob com os seus irmãos, porque dizia: Para que lhe não succeda porventura algum desastre.
5 And the sonnes of Israel came to bye foode among them that came: for there was famine in the land of Canaan.
Assim vieram os filhos de Israel para comprar, entre os que vinham lá; porque havia fome na terra de Canaan.
6 Now Ioseph was gouerner of the land, who solde to all the people of the lande: then Iosephs brethren came, and bowed their face to the groud before him.
José, pois, era o governador d'aquella terra; elle vendia a todo o povo da terra; e os irmãos de José vieram, e inclinaram-se a elle com a face na terra.
7 And when Ioseph sawe his brethren, hee knewe them, and made himselfe straunge toward them, and spake to them roughly, and saide vnto them, Whence come yee? Who answered, Out of the land of Canaan, to bye vitaile.
E José, vendo os seus irmãos, conheceu-os; porém mostrou-se estranho para com elles, e fallou com elles asperamente, e disse-lhes: D'onde vindes? E elles disseram: Da terra de Canaan, para comprarmos mantimento.
8 (Now Ioseph knewe his brethren, but they knew not him.
José, pois, conheceu os seus irmãos; mas elles não o conheceram.
9 And Ioseph remembred the dreames, which he dreamed of them) and he sayde vnto them, Ye are spies, and are come to see the weaknesse of the land.
Então José lembrou-se dos sonhos, que havia sonhado d'elles, e disse-lhes: Vós sois espias, e sois vindos para ver a nudez da terra.
10 But they sayde vnto him, Nay, my lorde, but to bye vitayle thy seruants are come.
E elles lhe disseram: Não, senhor meu; mas teus servos são vindos a comprar mantimento.
11 Wee are all one mans sonnes: wee meane truely, and thy seruants are no spies.
Todos nós somos filhos de um varão; somos homens de rectidão; os teus servos não são espias.
12 But he saide vnto them, Nay, but yee are come to see the weakenes of the land.
E elle lhes disse: Não; antes viestes para ver a nudez da terra.
13 And they said, We thy seruants are twelue brethren, the sonnes of one man in the lande of Canaan: and beholde, the yongest is this day with our father, and one is not.
E elles disseram: Nós, teus servos, somos doze irmãos, filhos de um varão na terra de Canaan; e eis que aqui o mais novo está com nosso pae hoje; mas um não está mais.
14 Againe Ioseph sayde vnto them, This is it that I spake vnto you, saying, Ye are spies.
Então lhes disse José: Isso é o que vos tenho dito, dizendo que sois espias:
15 Hereby ye shall be proued: by the life of Pharaoh, ye shall not goe hence, except your yongest brother come hither.
N'isto sereis provados; pela vida de Pharaó, não saireis d'aqui senão quando vosso irmão mais novo vier aqui.
16 Send one of you which may fet your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proued, whether there bee trueth in you: or els by the life of Pharaoh ye are but spies.
Enviae um d'entre vós, que traga vosso irmão, mas vós ficareis presos, e vossas palavras sejam provadas, se ha verdade comvosco; e se não, pela vida de Pharaó, vós sois espias.
17 So he put them in warde three dayes.
E pôl-os juntos em guarda tres dias.
18 Then Ioseph said vnto them the third day, This do, and liue: for I feare God.
E ao terceiro dia disse-lhes José: Fazei isso, e vivereis; porque eu temo a Deus.
19 If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bounde in your prison house, and goe ye, carie foode for the famine of your houses:
Se sois homens de rectidão, que fique um de vossos irmãos preso na casa de vossa prisão; e vós ide, levae mantimento para a fome de vossa casa,
20 But bring your yonger brother vnto me, that your wordes may be tried, and that ye dye not: and they did so.
E trazei-me o vosso irmão mais novo, e serão verificadas vossas palavras, e não morrereis. E elles assim fizeram.
21 And they said one to another, We haue verily sinned against our brother, in that we sawe the anguish of his soule, when he besought vs, and we would not heare him: therefore is this trouble come vpon vs.
Então disseram uns aos outros: Na verdade, somos culpados ácerca de nosso irmão, pois vimos a angustia da sua alma, quando nos rogava; nós porém não ouvimos: por isso vem sobre nós esta angustia.
22 And Reuben answered them, saying, Warned I not you, saying, Sinne not against the childe, and ye would not heare? and lo, his blood is now required.
E Ruben respondeu-lhes, dizendo: Não vol-o dizia eu, dizendo: Não pequeis contra o moço; mas não ouvistes: e vêdes aqui, o seu sangue tambem á requerido.
23 (And they were not aware that Ioseph vnderstoode them: for he spake vnto them by an interpreter.)
E elles não sabiam que José os entendia, porque havia interprete entre elles.
24 Then he turned from them, and wept, and turned to them againe, and communed with them, and tooke Simeon from among them, and bounde him before their eyes.
E retirou-se d'elles, e chorou. Depois tornou a elles, e fallou-lhes, e tomou a Simeão d'elles, e amarrou-o perante os seus olhos.
25 So Ioseph commanded that they should fill their sackes with wheate, and put euery mans money againe in his sacke, and giue them vitaile for the iourney: and thus did he vnto them.
E ordenou José, que enchessem os seus saccos de trigo, e que lhes restituissem o seu dinheiro a cada um no seu sacco, e lhes dessem comida para o caminho; e fizeram-lhes assim.
26 And they layed their vitaile vpon their asses, and departed thence.
E carregaram o seu trigo sobre os seus jumentos, e partiram d'ali.
27 And as one of them opened his sacke for to giue his asse prouender in the ynne, he espyed his money: for lo, it was in his sackes mouth.
E, abrindo um d'elles o seu sacco, para dar pasto ao seu jumento na venda, viu o seu dinheiro; porque eis que estava na bocca do seu sacco.
28 Then he sayde vnto his brethren, My money is restored: for loe, it is euen in my sacke. And their heart fayled them, and they were astonished, and sayde one to another, What is this, that God hath done vnto vs?
E disse a seus irmãos: Tornou-se o meu dinheiro, e eil-o tambem aqui no meu sacco. Então lhes desfalleceu o coração, e pasmavam, dizendo um ao outro: Que é isto que Deus nos tem feito?
29 And they came vnto Iaakob their father vnto the lande of Canaan, and tolde him all that had befallen them, saying,
E vieram para Jacob, seu pae, na terra de Canaan; e contaram-lhe tudo o que lhes aconteceu, dizendo:
30 The man, who is Lord of the lande, spake roughly to vs, and put vs in prison as spyes of the countrey.
O varão, o senhor da terra, fallou comnosco asperamente, e tratou-nos como espias da terra;
31 And we sayd vnto him, We are true men, and are no spies.
Mas dissemos-lhe: Somos homens de rectidão: não somos espias:
32 We be twelue brethren, sonnes of our father: one is not, and the yongest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.
Somos doze irmãos, filhos de nosso pae; um não é mais, e o mais novo está hoje com nosso pae na terra de Canaan.
33 Then the Lord of the countrey sayde vnto vs, Hereby shall I knowe if ye be true men: Leaue one of your brethren with me, and take foode for the famine of your houses and depart,
E aquelle varão, o senhor da terra, nos disse: N'isto conhecerei que vós sois homens de rectidão; deixae commigo um de vossos irmãos, e tomae para a fome de vossas casas, e parti,
34 And bring your yongest brother vnto me, that I may knowe that ye are no spies, but true men: so will I deliuer you your brother, and yee shall occupie in the land.
E trazei-me vosso irmão mais novo; assim saberei que não sois espias, mas homens de rectidão; então vos darei o vosso irmão e negociareis na terra.
35 And as they emptied their sacks, behold, euery mans bundel of money was in his sacke: and when they and their father sawe the bundels of their money, they were afrayde.
E aconteceu que, despejando elles os seus saccos, eis que cada um tinha a trouxinha com seu dinheiro no seu sacco; e viram as trouxinhas com seu dinheiro, elles e seu pae, e temeram.
36 Then Iaakob their father said to them, Ye haue robbed me of my children: Ioseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Beniamin: all these things are against me.
Então Jacob, seu pae, disse-lhes: Tendes-me desfilhado; José não está mais, e Simeão não está mais: agora levareis a Benjamin. Todas estas coisas vieram sobre mim.
37 Then Reuben answered his father, saying, Slay my two sonnes, if I bring him not to thee againe: deliuer him to mine hand, and I will bring him to thee againe.
Mas Ruben fallou a seu pae, dizendo: Mata os meus dois filhos, se t'o não tornar a trazer; dá-m'o em minha mão, e t'o tornarei a trazer.
38 But he said, My sonne shall not go downe with you: for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if death come vnto him by the way which ye goe, then ye shall bring my gray head with sorow vnto the graue. (Sheol h7585)
Elle porém disse: Não descerá meu filho comvosco; porquanto o seu irmão é morto, e elle só ficou. Se lhe succedesse algum desastre no caminho que fordes, fareis descer minhas cãs com tristeza á sepultura. (Sheol h7585)
