< Genesis 42 >

1 Then Iaakob saw that there was foode in Egypt, and Iaakob said vnto his sonnes, Why gaze ye one vpon an other?
Yakobo bwe yategeera nga mu Misiri eriyo emmere, n’agamba batabani be nti, “Lwaki mutunula butunuzi?
2 And he said, Behold, I haue heard that there is foode in Egypt, Get you downe thither, and bie vs foode thence, that we may liue and not die.
Mpulidde nti mu Misiri eriyo emmere, muserengete mutugulireyo emmere, tube balamu, tuleme okufa.”
3 So went Iosephs ten brethren downe to bye corne of the Egyptians.
Awo baganda ba Yusufu ekkumi ne baserengeta e Misiri okugula emmere.
4 But Beniamin Iosephs brother woulde not Iaakob send with his brethren: for he saide, Least death should befall him.
Kyokka Yakobo n’atasindika Benyamini, muto wa Yusufu wamu ne baganda be kubanga yatya nti akabi kayinza okumutuukako.
5 And the sonnes of Israel came to bye foode among them that came: for there was famine in the land of Canaan.
Bwe batyo batabani ba Isirayiri ne bajja mu Misiri wamu n’abalala abajja okugula emmere, kubanga ensi ya Kanani yali ejjudde enjala.
6 Now Ioseph was gouerner of the land, who solde to all the people of the lande: then Iosephs brethren came, and bowed their face to the groud before him.
Mu kiseera ekyo Yusufu ye yali afuga Misiri; nga y’aguza abantu emmere. Awo baganda be ne bajja ne bamuvuunamira.
7 And when Ioseph sawe his brethren, hee knewe them, and made himselfe straunge toward them, and spake to them roughly, and saide vnto them, Whence come yee? Who answered, Out of the land of Canaan, to bye vitaile.
Yusufu n’abalaba n’abategeera, wabula n’abayisa nga b’atamanyi n’ayogera nabo n’obukambwe. N’ababuuza nti, “Muva wa?” Ne bamuddamu nti, “Tuva mu nsi ya Kanani, tuzze kugula mmere.”
8 (Now Ioseph knewe his brethren, but they knew not him.
Bw’atyo Yusufu n’ategeera baganda be kyokka bo ne batamutegeera.
9 And Ioseph remembred the dreames, which he dreamed of them) and he sayde vnto them, Ye are spies, and are come to see the weaknesse of the land.
Awo Yusufu n’ajjukira ebirooto bye ku bo. N’abagamba nti, “Muli bakessi; muzze kuketta nsi yaffe mulabe bw’eri ennafu.”
10 But they sayde vnto him, Nay, my lorde, but to bye vitayle thy seruants are come.
Ne bamuddamu nti, “Nedda mukama waffe; abaddu bo tuzze kugula mmere.
11 Wee are all one mans sonnes: wee meane truely, and thy seruants are no spies.
Ffenna tuli batabani ba musajja omu, tuli basajja ba mazima. Abaddu bo tetuli bakessi.”
12 But he saide vnto them, Nay, but yee are come to see the weakenes of the land.
Ye n’abaddamu nti, “Nedda muzze kulaba obunafu bw’ensi yaffe bwe buli.”
13 And they said, We thy seruants are twelue brethren, the sonnes of one man in the lande of Canaan: and beholde, the yongest is this day with our father, and one is not.
Ne bamuddamu nti, “Abaddu bo tuli kkumi na babiri, tuli baana ba muntu omu mu nsi ya Kanani, laba muto waffe n’olwa leero ali ne kitaffe, n’omulala yafa.”
14 Againe Ioseph sayde vnto them, This is it that I spake vnto you, saying, Ye are spies.
Naye Yusufu n’alumiriza nti, “Kiri nga bwe mbagambye, muli bakessi.
15 Hereby ye shall be proued: by the life of Pharaoh, ye shall not goe hence, except your yongest brother come hither.
Nzija kubategeerera ku kino, ndayidde obulamu bwa Falaawo temujja kuva wano, okuggyako nga muto wammwe aleeteddwa wano.
16 Send one of you which may fet your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proued, whether there bee trueth in you: or els by the life of Pharaoh ye are but spies.
Mutume omu ku mmwe, aleete muganda wammwe, mwe mubeere mu kkomera, ebigambo byammwe byetegerezebwe obanga ddala bye mwogedde bya mazima. Oba si ekyo ndayidde obulamu bwa Falaawo, muli bakessi.”
17 So he put them in warde three dayes.
Awo n’abateeka bonna mu kkomera okumala ennaku ssatu.
18 Then Ioseph said vnto them the third day, This do, and liue: for I feare God.
Ku lunaku olwokusatu Yusufu n’abagamba nti, “Mukole bwe muti okuwonya obulamu bwammwe, kubanga ntya Katonda;
19 If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bounde in your prison house, and goe ye, carie foode for the famine of your houses:
obanga ddala muli basajja b’amazima, omu ku baganda bammwe asigale ng’asibiddwa mu kkomera, abalala mugende mutwalire abantu bammwe emmere,
20 But bring your yonger brother vnto me, that your wordes may be tried, and that ye dye not: and they did so.
mundeetere muto wammwe, olwo ebigambo byammwe bikakasibwe muleme okufa.” Awo ne bakola bwe batyo.
21 And they said one to another, We haue verily sinned against our brother, in that we sawe the anguish of his soule, when he besought vs, and we would not heare him: therefore is this trouble come vpon vs.
Awo ne bagambagana nti, “Ddala tuliko omusango gwa muganda waffe, kubanga twalaba nga mweraliikirivu, bwe yatwegayirira ne tutamuwuliriza; akabi kano kyekavudde katutuukako.”
22 And Reuben answered them, saying, Warned I not you, saying, Sinne not against the childe, and ye would not heare? and lo, his blood is now required.
Lewubeeni kwe kubaddamu nti, “Nnabagamba muleme kukola kabi ku mulenzi, nga mmwe temumpuliriza; kale omusaayi gwe kyeguva gutuwalanwako.”
23 (And they were not aware that Ioseph vnderstoode them: for he spake vnto them by an interpreter.)
Ne batamanya nti Yusufu ategedde bye boogedde, kubanga bayogeranga naye nga bayita mu mutaputa.
24 Then he turned from them, and wept, and turned to them againe, and communed with them, and tooke Simeon from among them, and bounde him before their eyes.
Awo Yusufu n’atunula ebbali n’akaaba, ate n’akyuka gye bali n’ayogera nabo. Awo n’atwala Simyoni n’amusiba nga balaba.
25 So Ioseph commanded that they should fill their sackes with wheate, and put euery mans money againe in his sacke, and giue them vitaile for the iourney: and thus did he vnto them.
N’alagira bajjuze ensawo zaabwe eŋŋaano, era bazze ensimbi za buli omu mu nsawo ye, baweebwe n’entanda; ne bibakolerwa.
26 And they layed their vitaile vpon their asses, and departed thence.
Awo ne batikka endogoyi zaabwe eŋŋaano ne bagenda.
27 And as one of them opened his sacke for to giue his asse prouender in the ynne, he espyed his money: for lo, it was in his sackes mouth.
Naye omu ku bo bwe yasumulula ensawo ye okuliisa endogoyi ye nga bali mu kifo mwe baasula, n’alaba ensimbi ze ku mumwa gw’ensawo;
28 Then he sayde vnto his brethren, My money is restored: for loe, it is euen in my sacke. And their heart fayled them, and they were astonished, and sayde one to another, What is this, that God hath done vnto vs?
n’agamba baganda be nti, “Ensimbi zange baazinzirizza, ziizino mu kamwa k’ensawo yange!” Ekyo ne kibeeralikiriza, buli omu n’atandika okutya, nga bwe bagamba nti, “Kiki kino Katonda ky’atukoze!”
29 And they came vnto Iaakob their father vnto the lande of Canaan, and tolde him all that had befallen them, saying,
Bwe baakomawo mu nsi ya Kanani eri Yakobo kitaabwe ne bamutegeeza byonna ebyababaako, nga bagamba nti,
30 The man, who is Lord of the lande, spake roughly to vs, and put vs in prison as spyes of the countrey.
“Omusajja omufuzi w’ensi y’e Misiri yayogera naffe n’obukambwe era n’atuyisa nga abaali bagenze okuketta ensi ye.
31 And we sayd vnto him, We are true men, and are no spies.
Naye ne tumugamba nti, Tuli basajja b’amazima, tetuli bakessi,
32 We be twelue brethren, sonnes of our father: one is not, and the yongest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.
tuli abooluganda kumi na babiri, baana ba muntu omu, munnaffe yafa, ne muto waffe olwa leero ali ne kitaffe mu nsi ya Kanani.
33 Then the Lord of the countrey sayde vnto vs, Hereby shall I knowe if ye be true men: Leaue one of your brethren with me, and take foode for the famine of your houses and depart,
“Awo omusajja oyo omufuzi w’ensi n’atugamba nti, ‘Ku kino kwennaategeerera nga muli beesigwa: muleke wano omu ku baganda bammwe, mutwale eŋŋaano olw’enjala eri mu maka gammwe.
34 And bring your yongest brother vnto me, that I may knowe that ye are no spies, but true men: so will I deliuer you your brother, and yee shall occupie in the land.
Mundeetere muto wammwe, kwe nnaategeerera nga temuli bakessi, muli basajja b’amazima, olwo ne ndyoka mbawa muganda wammwe, mulyoke mugule emmere mu nsi eno.’”
35 And as they emptied their sacks, behold, euery mans bundel of money was in his sacke: and when they and their father sawe the bundels of their money, they were afrayde.
Bwe baatuuka eka, buli eyafukumulanga ensawo ye, laba ng’omuvumbo gw’ensimbi ze mweziri. Awo bo ne kitaabwe bwe baalaba emivumbo gy’ensimbi ne batya.
36 Then Iaakob their father said to them, Ye haue robbed me of my children: Ioseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Beniamin: all these things are against me.
Yakobo kitaabwe n’abagamba nti, “Munzigyeko abaana bange: Yusufu taliiwo, ne Simyoni taliiwo ne kaakano mwagala muntwaleko Benyamini!”
37 Then Reuben answered his father, saying, Slay my two sonnes, if I bring him not to thee againe: deliuer him to mine hand, and I will bring him to thee againe.
Awo Lewubeeni n’agamba kitaawe nti, “Ottanga batabani bange bombi, bwe sirikomyawo Benyamini gy’oli; mumpe, nange ndimukomyawo gy’oli.”
38 But he said, My sonne shall not go downe with you: for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if death come vnto him by the way which ye goe, then ye shall bring my gray head with sorow vnto the graue. (Sheol h7585)
Naye Yakobo n’agamba nti, “Mutabani wange tajja kuserengeta nammwe, kubanga muganda we yafa, era ye y’asigalawo yekka. Akabi bwe kalimutuukako mu lugendo lwe mugendako, muliserengesa envi zange emagombe nga nkyali munakuwavu.” (Sheol h7585)
