Genesis 39
1 Now Ioseph was brought downe into Egypt: and Potiphar an Eunuche of Pharaohs (and his chiefe stewarde an Egyptian) bought him at the hande of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him thither.
Cependant Joseph fut emmené en Égypte, et Potiphar, eunuque de Pharaon, chef des satellites, Egyptien, l'acheta des Ismaélites qui l'avaient amené.
2 And the Lord was with Ioseph, and he was a man that prospered and was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
Et l'Éternel fut avec Joseph, et il fut un homme qui réussit étant dans la maison de son maître, l'Egyptien.
3 And his master sawe that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that hee did to prosper in his hande.
Et son maître voyant que l'Éternel était avec lui et faisait réussir entre ses mains tout ce qu'il entreprenait,
4 So Ioseph founde fauour in his sight, and serued him: and he made him ruler of his house, and put all that he had in his hand.
Joseph trouva grâce à ses yeux, et fut à son service personnel, et son maître le fit intendant de sa maison et lui remit en main tout ce qu'il avait.
5 And from that time that he had made him ruler ouer his house and ouer all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptians house for Iosephs sake: and the blessing of the Lord was vpon all that he had in the house, and in the fielde.
Et dès qu'il lui eut confié l'intendance de sa maison et de tout ce qu'il avait, l'Éternel bénit la maison de l'Egyptien pour l'amour de Joseph, et il y eut bénédiction de l'Éternel sur tout ce qui lui appartenait au dedans et au dehors.
6 Therefore he left all that he had in Iosephs hand, and tooke accompt of nothing, that was with him, saue onely of the bread, which he did eate. And Ioseph was a faire person, and well fauoured.
Et il abandonna à Joseph le maniement de tout ce qu'il avait, et avec lui, il ne prenait plus souci de rien, sinon des aliments dont il se nourrissait. Or Joseph avait une belle taille et une belle figure.
7 Nowe therefore after these thinges, his masters wife cast her eyes vpon Ioseph, and saide, Lye with me.
Et sur ces entrefaites il advint que la femme de son maître porta ses regards sur Joseph, et lui dit: Couche avec moi!
8 But he refused and said to his masters wife, Beholde, my master knoweth not what he hath in the house with me, but hath committed all that he hath to mine hande.
Et il s'y refusa et dit à la femme de son maître: Voici, mon maître ne revoit après moi quoi que ce soit dans la maison, et il m'a donné le maniement de tout ce qu'il a;
9 There is no man greater in this house then I: neither hath he kept any thing from me, but only thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickednes and so sinne against God?
il n'a pas dans cette maison une plus haute position que moi, et il ne me tient à distance de rien, que de toi, parce que tu es sa femme: comment donc pour-rais-je commettre ce grand crime et pécher contre Dieu?
10 And albeit she spake to Ioseph day by day, yet he hearkened not vnto her, to lye with her, or to be in her company.
Et quoiqu'elle parlât à Joseph tous les jours, il ne voulait point l'écouter, pour coucher auprès d'elle et avoir commerce avec elle;
11 Then on a certaine day Ioseph entred into the house, to doe his businesse: and there was no man of the houshold in the house:
et il lui arriva dans ce temps, d'entrer dans la maison pour vaquer à son occupation, dans un moment où aucun des gens de la maison n'était au logis;
12 Therefore she caught him by his garmet, saying, Sleepe with me: but he left his garment in her hand and fled, and got him out.
alors elle le saisit par son vêtement en disant: Couche avec moi! Et il laissa son vêtement dans sa main, et s'enfuit et courut dehors.
13 Nowe when she sawe that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled out,
Et quand elle vit qu'il lui avait laissé son vêtement dans la main, et s'était enfui dehors,
14 She called vnto the men of her house, and tolde them, saying, Beholde, he hath brought in an Ebrewe vnto vs to mocke vs: who came in to me for to haue slept with me: but I cryed with a loude voyce.
elle appela les gens de sa maison et leur dit: Voyez, il nous a amené un homme hébreu pour se jouer de nous. Il est entré chez moi pour coucher avec moi; alors j'ai appelé à haute voix,
15 And when he heard that I lift vp my voice and cryed, he left his garment with me, and fled away, and got him out.
et quand il m'a entendu élever la voix et appeler, il a laissé son vêtement à mes côtés et s'est enfui et a couru dehors;
16 So she layde vp his garment by her, vntill her lord came home.
et elle posa le vêtement à côté d'elle en attendant le retour de son seigneur au logis.
17 Then she tolde him according to these words, saying, The Ebrew seruat, which thou hast brought vnto vs, came in to me, to mocke me.
Et elle lui parla dans ce sens en ces termes: L'esclave hébreu que tu nous as amené est entré chez moi pour se jouer de moi;
18 But assoone as I lift vp my voyce and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled out.
puis quand j'ai élevé la voix et appelé, il a laissé son vêtement à côté de moi et s'est enfui dehors.
19 Then when his master heard the wordes of his wife, which she tolde him, saying, After this maner did thy seruant to me, his anger was kindled.
Et à l'ouïe des discours de sa femme qui lui avait parlé en ces termes: Ton esclave m'a traitée de la sorte, le maître de Joseph fut enflammé de colère,
20 And Iosephs master tooke him and put him in prison, in the place, where the kings prisoners lay bounde: and there he was in prison.
et il le prit et le mit dans la maison de force, dans le lieu où les prisonniers du roi étaient détenus; et il fut là dans la maison de force.
21 But the Lord was with Ioseph, and shewed him mercie, and got him fauour in the sight of the master of the prison.
Mais l'Éternel fut avec Joseph et lui concilia de la bienveillance et lui fit trouver grâce aux yeux du commandant de la maison de force.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Iosephs hande all the prisoners that were in the prison, and whatsoeuer they did there, that did he.
Et le commandant de la maison de force plaça sous l'autorité de Joseph tous les prisonniers qui étaient dans la maison de force; et tout ce qui s'y faisait se faisait par lui.
23 And the keeper of the prison looked vnto nothing that was vnder his hande, seeing that the Lord was with him: for whatsoeuer he did, the Lord made it to prosper.
Le commandant de la maison de force ne contrôlait rien de ce qu'il avait à manier, parce que l'Éternel était avec lui; et l'Éternel faisait réussir ce qu'il entreprenait.
