Genesis 38
1 And at that time Iudah went downe from his brethren, and turned in to a man called Hirah an Adullamite.
Ihinda-inĩ rĩu-rĩ, Juda agĩtiga ariũ a ithe agĩikũrũka agĩthiĩ gũikara na mũndũ wa Adulamu wetagwo Hira.
2 And Iudah sawe there the daughter of a man called Suah a Canaanite: and he tooke her to wife, and went in vnto her.
Juda arĩ kũu agĩcemania na mwarĩ wa Mũkaanani wetagwo Shua. Akĩmũhikia na agĩkoma nake;
3 So she conceiued and bare a sonne, and he called his name Er.
nake akĩgĩa nda na agĩciara kahĩĩ, gagĩtuuo Eri.
4 And she conceiued againe, and bare a sonne, and she called his name Onan.
Akĩgĩa nda ĩngĩ, agĩciara kahĩĩ kangĩ gagĩtuuo Onani.
5 Moreouer she bare yet a sonne, whome she called Shelah: and Iudah was at Chezib when she bare him.
O na ningĩ agĩciara kahĩĩ kangĩ, agĩgatua Shela. Aagaciarĩire kũu Chezibu.
6 Then Iudah tooke a wife to Er his first borne sonne whose name was Tamar.
Maagimara Juda akĩgũrĩra Eri ũrĩa warĩ irigithathi rĩake, mũtumia wetagwo Tamaru.
7 Now Er the first borne of Iudah was wicked in the sight of the Lord: therefore the Lord slewe him.
No Eri, irigithathi rĩa Juda, aarĩ mwaganu maitho-inĩ ma Jehova; nĩ ũndũ ũcio Jehova akĩmũũraga.
8 Then Iudah said to Onan, Goe in vnto thy brothers wife, and do the office of a kinsman vnto her, and raise vp seede vnto thy brother.
Nake Juda akĩĩra Onani atĩrĩ, “Koma na mũtumia wa mũrũ wa nyũkwa, ũmũhingĩrie ũrĩa wagĩrĩirwo nĩkũmwĩka ũrĩ mũrũ wa nyina na mũthuuri wake, nĩguo ũciarĩre mũrũ wa nyũkwa rũciaro.”
9 And Onan knewe that the seede should not be his: therefore when he went in vnto his brothers wife, he spilled it on the grounde, least he should giue seede vnto his brother.
Nake Onani nĩamenyaga atĩ rũciaro rũu rũtigatuĩka rwake; nĩ ũndũ ũcio o akoma na mũtumia wa mũrũ wa nyina, agaita mbeũ ya ũciari thĩ, nĩguo ndagaciarĩre mũrũ wa nyina rũciaro.
10 And it was wicked in the eyes of the Lord, which he did: wherefore he slewe him also.
Ũndũ ũcio eekire warĩ mũũru maitho-inĩ ma Jehova; nĩ ũndũ ũcio o nake akĩũragwo nĩ Jehova.
11 Then said Iudah to Tamar his daughter in lawe, Remaine a widowe in thy fathers house, till Shelah my sonne growe vp (for he thought thus, Least he die as well as his brethren.) So Tamar went and dwelt in her fathers house.
Juda akĩĩra Tamaru mũtumia wa mũriũ atĩrĩ, “Thiĩ ũtũũre ũrĩ wa ndigwa gwa thoguo mũciĩ nginya mũrũ wakwa Shela agimare.” Tondũ eeciiririe atĩrĩ, “O nake Shela ahota gũkua ta ariũ a nyina.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Tamaru agĩthiĩ gũtũũra mũciĩ gwa ithe.
12 And in processe of time also the daughter of Shuah Iudahs wife dyed. Then Iudah, when he had left mourning, went vp to his sheepe sherers to Timnah, he, and his neighbour Hirah the Adullamite.
Thuutha wa ihinda iraaya, mũtumia wa Juda, mwarĩ wa Shua, agĩkua. Na kahinda ka macakaya gaathira na Juda athirwo nĩ kĩeha, akĩambata agĩthiĩ Timina kũrĩ andũ arĩa meenjaga ngʼondu ciake guoya, na agĩthiĩ hamwe na mũrata wake, Hira wa Adulamu.
13 And it was tolde Tamar, saying, beholde, thy father in lawe goeth vp to Timnah, to shere his sheepe.
Na rĩrĩa Tamaru eerirwo atĩrĩ, “Ithe wa mũthuuriguo erekeire Timina kwenja ngʼondu ciake guoya,”
14 Then she put her widowes garments off from her, and couered her with a vaile, and wrapped her selfe, and sate downe in Pethah-enaim, which is by the way to Timnah, because she sawe that Shelah was growen, and she was not giuen vnto him to wife.
akĩruta nguo ciake cia mũtumia wa ndigwa, akĩĩhumbĩra na taama nginya ũthiũ nĩguo ndakae kũmenyeka, agĩikara thĩ itoonyero-inĩ rĩa Enaimu, rĩrĩa rĩarĩ njĩra-inĩ ya gũthiĩ Timina. Nĩgũkorwo nĩonire atĩ, o na gũtuĩka Shela aarĩ mũndũ mũgima, Juda ndaheanĩte Tamaru kũrĩ we atuĩke mũtumia wake.
15 When Iudah sawe her, he iudged her an whore: for she had couered her face.
Rĩrĩa Juda aamuonire-rĩ, agĩĩciiria atĩ Tamaru aarĩ mũmaraya tondũ nĩehumbĩrĩte ũthiũ.
16 And he turned to the way towardes her, and saide, Come, I pray thee, let me lie with thee. (for he knewe not that she was his daughter in lawe) And she answered, What wilt thou giue me for to lie with me?
Na tondũ ndooĩ atĩ aarĩ mũtumia wa mũriũ, agĩthiĩ harĩ we mũkĩra-inĩ wa njĩra, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ũka, ĩtĩkĩra ngome nawe.” Mũtumia ũcio akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Na nĩ kĩĩ ũkũũhe nĩguo ngome nawe?”
17 Then said he, I will sende thee a kid of the goates from the flocke. and she said, Well, if thou wilt giue me a pledge, till thou sende it.
Juda akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Nĩngũgũtũmĩra koori kuuma rũũru-inĩ rwakwa.” Mũtumia ũcio akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Nĩũkũndigĩra kĩndũ gĩa kũrũgamĩrĩra kĩĩranĩro gĩaku nginya rĩrĩa ũgaakaneana?”
18 Then he saide, What is the pledge that I shall giue thee? And she answered, Thy signet, and thy cloke, and thy staffe that is in thine hande. So he gaue it her, and lay by her, and she was with childe by him.
Juda akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Ũkwenda ngũtigĩre kĩĩ gĩa kũrũgamĩrĩra?” Mũtumia ũcio akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Ndigĩra gĩcũhĩ kĩa rũũri rwaku na rũrigi rwakĩo, o na rũthanju rũu rũrĩ guoko-inĩ gwaku.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Juda agĩtigĩra mũtumia ũcio indo icio na agĩkoma nake; na Tamaru akĩgĩa nda yake.
19 Then she rose, and went and put her vaile from her and put on her widowes raiment.
Mũtumia ũcio aarĩkia gwĩthiĩra, akĩaũra taama wake, akĩĩhumba nguo ciake cia mũtumia wa ndigwa rĩngĩ.
20 Afterwarde Iudah sent a kid of the goates by the hande of his neighbour the Adullamite, for to receiue his pledge from the womans hand: but he found her not.
Rĩrĩa Juda atũmire mũratawe ũcio wa kũu Adulamu na koori nĩgeetha acookerio indo icio cia kũrũgamĩrĩra kuuma kũrĩ mũtumia ũcio-rĩ, ndaamuonire.
21 Then asked he the men of that place, saying, Where is ye whore, that sate in Enaim by the way side? And they answered, There was no whore here.
Nake akĩũria andũ arĩa maatũũraga kũu atĩrĩ, “Arĩ ha mũmaraya ũrĩa ũraarĩ haha mũkĩra-inĩ wa njĩra ya gũthiĩ Enaimu?” Nao magĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Haha hatirĩ hakorwo na mũmaraya.”
22 He came therefore to Iudah againe, and said, I can not finde her, and also the men of the place said, There was no whore there.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio agĩcooka kũrĩ Juda, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ndinamuona. Hamwe na ũguo-rĩ, andũ arĩa matũũraga hau moigire atĩrĩ, ‘Haha hatirĩ hakorwo na mũmaraya.’”
23 Then Iudah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: beholde, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.
Nake Juda akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩakĩrekwo aikare na kĩrĩa arĩ nakĩo, kana tũtuĩke a gũthekererwo. Ningĩ-rĩ, nĩngũmũtũmĩire koori gaka, no ndũnamuona.”
24 Now after three moneths, one tolde Iudah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the whore, and lo, with playing the whore, she is great with childe. Then Iudah saide, Bring ye her foorth and let her be burnt.
Thuutha wa mĩeri ĩtatũ, Juda akĩĩrwo atĩrĩ, “Tamaru mũtumia wa mũrũguo nĩehĩtie, akahũũra ũmaraya, na nĩ ũndũ ũcio arĩ na nda.” Juda akiuga atĩrĩ, “Mumiei mũmũrehe, acinwo akue!”
25 When she was brought foorth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, vnto whom these things pertaine, am I with childe: and saide also, Looke, I pray thee, whose these are, the seale, and the cloke, and the staffe.
Na rĩrĩa oimagio-rĩ, agĩtũma ndũmĩrĩri kũrĩ ithe wa mũthuuriwe, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Niĩ ndĩ na nda ya mũndũ ũrĩa mwene indo ici.” Agĩcooka akiuga atĩrĩ, “Ta rora kana no ũmenye nũũ mwene gĩcũhĩ gĩkĩ kĩ na mũhũũri, na rũrigi rũrũ, o na rũthanju rũrũ.”
26 Then Iudah knewe them, and said, She is more righteous then I: for she hath done it because I gaue her not to Shelah my sonne. So he lay with her no more.
Juda agĩcimenya, na akiuga atĩrĩ, “Mũtumia ũyũ nĩ mũthingu kũngĩra; ekĩte ũguo nĩgũkorwo ndiamũheanire kũrĩ mũrũ wakwa Shela.” Juda ndaacookire gũkoma nake rĩngĩ.
27 Now, when the time was come that she should be deliuered, beholde, there were twinnes in her wombe.
Rĩrĩa ihinda rĩake rĩakinyire rĩa gũciara-rĩ, kwarĩ na tũhĩĩ twĩrĩ twa mahatha nda yake.
28 And when she was in trauell, the one put out his hand: and the midwife tooke and bound a red threde about his hand, saying, This is come out first.
Na rĩrĩa aaciaraga-rĩ, kamwe gatuo gagĩcomora guoko; nake mũmũciarithia akĩoya uthi mũtune, akĩwoherera guoko-inĩ gwako, na akiuga atĩrĩ, “Ũyũ nĩwe woima mbere.”
29 But when he plucked his hand backe againe, loe, his brother came out, and the midwife said, How hast thou broken the breach vpon thee? and his name was called Pharez.
No rĩrĩa aacookirie guoko na thĩinĩ, mũrũ wa nyina akiuma, nake mũciarithania akiuga atĩrĩ, “Githĩ nĩguo weturĩra njĩra!” Nake agĩtuuo Perezu.
30 And afterward came out his brother that had the red threde about his hande, and his name was called Zarah.
Nake mũrũ wa nyina ũrĩa warĩ na uthi mũtune guoko-inĩ gwake akiuma, nake agĩtuuo Zera.
