Genesis 37
1 Iaakob nowe dwelt in the lande, wherein his father was a stranger, in the lande of Canaan.
Ja Jakob asui sillä maalla, jossa hänen isänsä muukalainen oli ollut: (nimittäin) Kanaanin maalla.
2 These are the generations of Iaakob, when Ioseph was seuenteene yeere olde: he kept sheepe with his brethren, and the childe was with the sonnes of Bilhah, and with the sonnes of Zilpah, his fathers wiues. And Ioseph brought vnto their father their euill saying.
Ja nämät ovat Jakobin sukukunnat: Joseph oli seitsemäntoistakymmenen ajastaikainen, koska hän kaitsi karjaa veljeinsä kanssa, ja hän oli nuorella ijällänsä Bilhan ja Silpan, isänsä emäntäin lasten kanssa: ja Joseph ilmoitti isällensä, mikä paha sanoma heistä kuului.
3 Nowe Israel loued Ioseph more then all his sonnes, because he begate him in his old age, and he made him a coat of many colours.
Mutta Israel rakasti Josephia enemmin kuin kaikkia muita lapsiansa, että hän oli syntynyt hänelle vanhalla ijällänsä: ja teki hänelle kirjavan hameen.
4 So when his brethren sawe that their father loued him more then all his brethren, then they hated him, and could not speake peaceably vnto him.
Kuin hänen veljensä näkivät, että hänen isänsä rakasti häntä enemmin kuin kaikkia hänen veljiänsä, vihasivat he häntä; ja ei voineet puhutella häntä ystävällisesti.
5 And Ioseph dreamed a dreame, and told his brethren, who hated him so much the more.
Niin Joseph näki unen, ja ilmoitti sen veljillensä, josta he rupesivat häntä enemmin vihaamaan.
6 For he saide vnto them, Heare, I pray you, this dreame which I haue dreamed.
Sillä hän oli sanonut heille, kuulkaas tätä unta, jonka minä näin.
7 Beholde nowe, wee were binding sheues in the middes of the field: and loe, my shefe arose and also stoode vpright, and behold, your sheues compassed rounde about, and did reuerence to my shefe.
Katso, me olimme sitovanamme jalallisia vainiolla ja minun jalalliseni nousi ja seisoi; ja katso, teidän jalallisenne seisoivat ympärillä, ja kumarsivat minun jalallistani.
8 Then his brethren saide to him, What, shalt thou reigne ouer vs, and rule vs? or shalt thou haue altogether dominion ouer vs? And they hated him so much the more, for his dreames, and for his wordes.
Niin sanoivat hänen veljensä hänelle: sinäkö tulet meidän kuninkaaksemme, kokonansa hallitsemaan meitä? Ja vihasivat häntä vielä enemmin, hänen unensa ja puheensa tähden.
9 Againe hee dreamed an other dreame, and tolde it his brethren, and saide, Behold, I haue had one dreame more, and beholde, the Sunne and the Moone and eleuen starres did reuerence to me.
Ja hän taas näki toisen unen, ja jutteli sen veljillensä, ja sanoi: katso, minä näin vielä unta: ja katso, aurinko, kuu ja yksitoista tähteä kumarsivat minua.
10 Then he tolde it vnto his father and to his brethren, and his father rebuked him, and saide vnto him, What is this dreame, which thou hast dreamed? shall I, and thy mother, and thy brethren come in deede and fall on the ground before thee?
Ja kuin hän sitä saneli isällensä ja veljillensä, nuhteli hänen isänsä häntä ja sanoi hänelle: mikä uni se on, kuin sinä olet nähnyt? Pitääkö minun ja sinun äitis ja veljes tuleman ja kumartaman meitämme sinun edessäs maahan?
11 And his brethren enuied him, but his father noted the saying.
Ja hänen veljensä kadehtivat häntä; mutta hänen isänsä piti nämät sanat mielessänsä.
12 Then his brethren went to keepe their fathers sheepe in Shechem.
Koska hänen veljensä menivät kaitsemaan karjaa Sikemiin,
13 And Israel said vnto Ioseph, Doe not thy brethren keepe in Shechem? come and I will send thee to them.
Sanoi Israel Josephille: eikö veljes kaitse karjaa Sikemissä? Tule, minä lähetän sinun heidän tykönsä; hän vastasi: tässä minä olen.
14 And he answered him, I am here. Then he saide vnto him, Goe now, see whether it bee well with thy brethren, and how the flocks prosper, and bring me word againe. so hee sent him from the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
Hän sanoi: mene ja katso, ovatko veljes ja karja rauhassa, ja palaja minulle sitä sanomaan. Ja hän lähetti hänen Hebronin laaksosta; ja hän tuli Sikemiin.
15 Then a man found him: for lo, hee was wandring in the fielde, and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
Niin yksi mies kohtasi hänen eksyksissä kedolla; ja kysyi häneltä sanoen: mitäs etsit?
16 And he answered, I seeke my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they keepe sheepe.
Hän vastasi: minä etsin veljiäni: sanos minulle, kussa he kaitsevat karjaa.
17 And the man said, they are departed hece: for I heard them say, Let vs goe vnto Dothan. Then went Ioseph after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
Ja mies sanoi: he läksivät täältä; sillä minä kuulin heidän sanovan: käykäämme Dotaniin. Niin Joseph meni veljeinsä perään, ja löysi heidät Dotanista.
18 And when they sawe him a farre off, euen before he came at them, they conspired against him for to slay him.
Kuin he kaukana näkivät hänen, ja ennenkuin hän heitä lähestyi, pitivät he neuvoa häntä vastaan, tappaaksensa häntä.
19 For they sayd one to another, Behold, this dreamer commeth.
Ja sanoivat toinen toisellensa: katso, tuo unennäkiä tulee.
20 Come now therefore, and let vs slay him, and cast him into some pitte, and wee will say, A wicked beast hath deuoured him: then wee shall see, what will come of his dreames.
Tulkaat siis, tappakaamme häntä, ja heittäkäämme häntä yhteen kuoppaan, ja sanokaamme: paha peto on hänen syönyt: niin saadaan nähdä, mihinkä hänen unensa joutuvat.
21 But when Reuben heard that, he deliuered him out of their handes, and saide, Let vs not kill him.
Koska Ruben sen kuuli, tahtoi hän häntä pelastaa heidän käsistänsä, ja sanoi: älkäämme hänen henkeänsä ottako.
22 Also Reuben saide vnto them, Shed not blood, but cast him into this pitte that is in the wildernesse, and lay no hande vpon him. Thus he said, that he might deliuer him out of their hand, and restore him to his father againe.
Ja Ruben vielä sanoi heille: älkäät vuodattako verta, vaan heittäkäät häntä tähän kuoppaan, joka on korvessa, ja älkäät satuttako kättänne häneen; sillä hän tahtoi pelastaa häntä heidän käsistänsä, saattaaksensa häntä jälleen isänsä tykö.
23 Now when Ioseph was come vnto his brethren, they stript Ioseph out of his coate, his particoloured coate that was vpon him.
Ja tapahtui, koska Joseph tuli veljeinsä tykö, riisuivat he häneltä hameen, (nimittäin) sen kirjavan hameen, joka hänen yllänsä oli;
24 And they tooke him, and cast him into a pit, and the pit was emptie, without water in it.
Ja ottivat hänen ja heittivät kuoppaan: ja kuoppa oli tyhjä, ja ei ollut siinä vettä.
25 Then they sate them downe to eate bread: and they lift vp their eyes and looked, and behold, there came a companie of Ishmeelites from Gilead, and their camels laden with spicerie, and balme, and myrrhe, and were going to cary it downe into Egypt.
Sitte istuivat he syömään leipää: ja kuin he nostivat silmänsä ja katselivat, niin katso, Ismaelilaisten joukko tuli Gileadista; ja heidän kameleinsa kannatus oli styraks, mastiks ja ladanum, ja vaelsivat viemään niitä alas Egyptiin.
26 Then Iudah said vnto his brethren, What auaileth it, if we slay our brother, though wee keepe his blood secret?
Niin sanoi Juuda veljillensä: mitä me siitä hyödymme, että me murhaamme meidän veljemme ja salaamme hänen verensä?
27 Come and let vs sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our handes be vpon him: for he is our brother and our flesh: and his brethren obeyed.
Tulkaat ja myykäämme häntä Ismaelilaisille, ja älkäämme satuttako käsiämme häneen: sillä hän on meidän veljemme ja lihamme; ja he kuulivat häntä.
28 Then the Midianites marchant men passed by, and they drewe foorth, and lift Ioseph out of the pit, and solde Ioseph vnto the Ishmeelites for twentie pieces of siluer: who brought Ioseph into Egypt.
Koska Midianilaisten kauppamiehet siitä menivät ohitse, vetivät he Josephin ja ottivat ylös kuopasta, ja myivät hänen Ismaelilaisille, kahteenkymmeneen hopiapenninkiin; jotka veivät Josephin pois Egyptiin.
29 Afterwarde Reuben returned to the pit, and beholde, Ioseph was not in the pit: then he rent his clothes,
Koska Ruben palasi kuopalle, niin katso, ei ollut Joseph kuopassa: ja hän repäisi vaatteensa
30 And returned to his brethren, and said, The childe is not yonder, and I, whither shall I goe?
Ja palasi veljeinsä tykö, ja sanoi: ei ole nuorukainen siellä, voi minua! kuhunka minä menen?
31 And they tooke Iosephs coate, and killed a kidde of the goates, and dipped the coate in the blood.
Niin he ottivat Josephin hameen ja tappoivat kauriin, ja tahrasivat hameen vereen
32 So they sent that particoloured coat, and they brought it vnto their father, and saide, This haue we founde: see nowe, whether it be thy sonnes coate, or no.
Ja lähettivät sen kirjavan hameen, ja antoivat kantaa isällensä, ja sanoivat: tämän me löysimme: tunnustele, jos tämä on poikas hame taikka ei?
33 Then he knewe it and said, It is my sonnes coate: a wicked beast hath deuoured him: Ioseph is surely torne in pieces.
Ja hän tunsi sen, ja sanoi: tämä on minun poikani hame, paha peto on hänen syönyt: raadellen on Joseph revelty.
34 And Iaakob rent his clothes, and put sackecloth about his loynes, and sorowed for his sonne a long season.
Ja Jakob repäisi vaatteensa, ja kääri säkin kupeisiinsa; ja murehti poikaansa monta päivää.
35 Then all his sonnes and all his daughters rose vp to comfort him, but he woulde not be comforted, but said, Surely I will go downe into the graue vnto my sonne mourning: so his father wept for him. (Sheol h7585)
Ja kaikki hänen poikansa ja tyttärensä nousivat häntä lohduttamaan; vaan ei hän tahtonut antaa itsiänsä lohdutettaa, mutta sanoi: minä menen murehtien alas poikani tykö hautaan. Ja hänen isänsä itki häntä. (Sheol h7585)
36 And the Midianites solde him into Egypt vnto Potiphar an Eunuche of Pharaohs, and his chiefe stewarde.
Mutta Midianilaiset myivät hänen Egyptiin Potipharille, Pharaon kamaripalvelialle ja huovinhaltialle.
