Genesis 33
1 And as Iaakob lift vp his eyes, and looked, behold, Esau came, and with him foure hundreth men: and he deuided the children to Leah, and to Rahel, and to the two maides.
Et Jacob leva les yeux et regarda. Et voici, Ésaü venait, et quatre cents hommes avec lui. Alors il répartit les enfants entre Léa, Rachel, et les deux servantes.
2 And he put the maides, and their children formost, and Leah, and her children after, and Rahel, and Ioseph hindermost.
Et il plaça en tête les servantes et leurs enfants; Léa et ses enfants ensuite, et Rachel et Joseph au dernier rang.
3 So he went before them and bowed him selfe to the ground seuen times, vntill he came neere to his brother.
Quant à lui, il passa devant eux, et se prosterna en terre sept fois, jusqu'à ce qu'il se fût approché de son frère.
4 Then Esau ranne to meete him, and embraced him, and fell on his necke, and kissed him, and they wept.
Mais Ésaü courut au-devant de lui, et l'embrassa, et se jeta à son cou, et le baisa, et ils pleurèrent.
5 And he lift vp his eyes, and sawe the women, and the children, and saide, Who are these with thee? And he answered, They are ye childre whome God of his grace hath giuen thy seruant.
Puis il leva les yeux, et vit les femmes et les enfants, et il dit: Qui as-tu là? Et il répondit: Ce sont les enfants que Dieu a accordés à ton serviteur.
6 Then came the maides neere, they, and their children, and bowed themselues.
Et les servantes s'approchèrent, elles et leurs enfants, et se prosternèrent.
7 Leah also with her children came neere and made obeysance: and after Ioseph and Rahel drew neere, and did reuerence.
Léa aussi s'approcha, et ses enfants, et ils se prosternèrent. Et ensuite Joseph et Rachel s'approchèrent, et ils se prosternèrent.
8 Then he said, What meanest thou by all this droue, which I met? Who answered, I haue sent it, that I may finde fauour in the sight of my lorde:
Et Ésaü dit: Que veux-tu faire avec tout ce camp que j'ai rencontré? Et il répondit: C'est pour trouver grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur.
9 And Esau said, I haue ynough, my brother: keepe that thou hast to thy selfe.
Et Ésaü dit: Je suis dans l'abondance, mon frère. Garde ce qui est à toi.
10 But Iaakob answered, Nay, I pray thee: if I haue found grace nowe in thy sight, then receiue my present at mine hande: for I haue seene thy face, as though I had seene the face of God, because thou hast accepted me.
Et Jacob répondit: Non, je te prie, si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, tu accepteras mon offrande de ma main, puisque j'ai vu ta face comme on voit la face de Dieu, et que tu m'as accueilli favorablement.
11 I pray thee take my blessing, that is brought thee: for God hath had mercie on me, and therefore I haue all things: so he compelled him, and he tooke it.
Accepte, je te prie, mon présent qui t'a été offert; car Dieu m'a comblé de grâces, et j'ai de tout. Il le pressa donc tant, qu'il l'accepta.
12 And he saide, Let vs take our iourney and go, and I will goe before thee.
Et Ésaü dit: Partons, et marchons; et je marcherai devant toi.
13 Then he answered him, My lord knoweth, that the children are tender, and the ewes and kine with yong vnder mine hande: and if they should ouerdriue them one day, all the flocke would die.
Et Jacob lui dit: Mon seigneur sait que les enfants sont délicats; et je suis chargé de brebis et de vaches qui allaitent; si on les presse un seul jour, tout le troupeau mourra.
14 Let now my lord go before his seruant, and I will driue softly, according to ye pase of ye cattel, which is before me, and as the children be able to endure, vntill I come to my lord vnto Seir.
Que mon seigneur passe, je te prie, devant son serviteur; et moi, je m'avancerai tout doucement, au pas du bétail qui est devant moi, et au pas des enfants, jusqu'à ce que j'arrive chez mon seigneur, à Séir.
15 Then Esau said, I will leaue then some of my folke with thee. And he answered, what needeth this? let me finde grace in the sight of my lorde.
Et Ésaü dit: Je te prie, que je fasse demeurer avec toi quelques-uns des gens qui sont avec moi. Et il répondit: Pourquoi cela? Que je trouve grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur!
16 So Esau returned, and went his way that same day vnto Seir.
Et Ésaü retourna ce jour-là par son chemin, à Séir.
17 And Iaakob went forwarde towarde Succoth, and built him an house, and made boothes for his cattell: therefore he called the name of the place Succoth.
Mais Jacob partit pour Succoth; et il bâtit une maison pour lui, et fit des cabanes pour son bétail; c'est pourquoi, il nomma le lieu Succoth (cabanes).
18 Afterward, Iaakob came safe to Sheche a citie, which is in the lande of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram, and pitched before the citie.
Et Jacob, venant de Paddan-Aram, arriva sain et sauf à la ville de Sichem, au pays de Canaan; et il campa devant la ville.
19 And there he bought a parcell of ground, where hee pitched his tent, at the hande of the sonnes of Hamor Shechems father, for an hundreth pieces of money.
Et il acheta, de la main des fils de Hémor, père de Sichem, pour cent pièces d'argent, la portion de champ où il avait dressé sa tente.
20 And he set vp there an altar, and called it, The mightie God of Israel.
Et il dressa là un autel, et il l'appela El-Elohé-Israël (Dieu est le Dieu d'Israël).
