Genesis 33
1 And as Iaakob lift vp his eyes, and looked, behold, Esau came, and with him foure hundreth men: and he deuided the children to Leah, and to Rahel, and to the two maides.
Jacob leva les yeux et regarda. Et voici, Ésaü arrivait, et avec lui quatre cents hommes. Il partagea les enfants entre Léa, Rachel et les deux serviteurs.
2 And he put the maides, and their children formost, and Leah, and her children after, and Rahel, and Ioseph hindermost.
Il plaça les serviteurs et leurs enfants en avant, Léa et ses enfants après, et Rachel et Joseph en arrière.
3 So he went before them and bowed him selfe to the ground seuen times, vntill he came neere to his brother.
Lui-même passa devant eux, et se prosterna sept fois à terre, jusqu'à ce qu'il s'approche de son frère.
4 Then Esau ranne to meete him, and embraced him, and fell on his necke, and kissed him, and they wept.
Ésaü courut à sa rencontre, l'embrassa, se jeta à son cou, le baisa, et ils pleurèrent.
5 And he lift vp his eyes, and sawe the women, and the children, and saide, Who are these with thee? And he answered, They are ye childre whome God of his grace hath giuen thy seruant.
Il leva les yeux, et vit les femmes et les enfants; il dit: « Qui sont ceux-ci avec toi? » Il dit: « Les enfants que Dieu a gracieusement donnés à votre serviteur. »
6 Then came the maides neere, they, and their children, and bowed themselues.
Alors les serviteurs s'approchèrent avec leurs enfants, et ils se prosternèrent.
7 Leah also with her children came neere and made obeysance: and after Ioseph and Rahel drew neere, and did reuerence.
Léa et ses enfants s'approchèrent aussi, et se prosternèrent. Après eux, Joseph s'approcha avec Rachel, et ils se prosternèrent.
8 Then he said, What meanest thou by all this droue, which I met? Who answered, I haue sent it, that I may finde fauour in the sight of my lorde:
Ésaü dit: « Que veux-tu dire par toute cette compagnie que j'ai rencontrée? » Jacob a dit: « Pour trouver grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur. »
9 And Esau said, I haue ynough, my brother: keepe that thou hast to thy selfe.
Ésaü dit: « J'ai assez, mon frère; que ce que tu as soit à toi. »
10 But Iaakob answered, Nay, I pray thee: if I haue found grace nowe in thy sight, then receiue my present at mine hande: for I haue seene thy face, as though I had seene the face of God, because thou hast accepted me.
Jacob dit: « Je t'en prie, non, si j'ai maintenant trouvé grâce à tes yeux, alors reçois mon présent de ma main, car j'ai vu ton visage, comme on voit le visage de Dieu, et tu as été satisfait de moi.
11 I pray thee take my blessing, that is brought thee: for God hath had mercie on me, and therefore I haue all things: so he compelled him, and he tooke it.
Je te prie de prendre le présent que je t'ai apporté, parce que Dieu m'a fait grâce, et parce que j'en ai assez. » Il le pressa, et il le prit.
12 And he saide, Let vs take our iourney and go, and I will goe before thee.
Ésaü dit: « Prenons notre route, partons, et je te précéderai. »
13 Then he answered him, My lord knoweth, that the children are tender, and the ewes and kine with yong vnder mine hande: and if they should ouerdriue them one day, all the flocke would die.
Jacob lui dit: « Mon seigneur sait que les enfants sont tendres, et que les troupeaux qui sont avec moi ont leurs petits, et que s'ils les surmènent un jour, tous les troupeaux mourront.
14 Let now my lord go before his seruant, and I will driue softly, according to ye pase of ye cattel, which is before me, and as the children be able to endure, vntill I come to my lord vnto Seir.
Je vous prie de laisser mon seigneur passer devant son serviteur, et je continuerai doucement, au rythme du bétail qui est devant moi et au rythme des enfants, jusqu'à ce que j'arrive auprès de mon seigneur en Séir. »
15 Then Esau said, I will leaue then some of my folke with thee. And he answered, what needeth this? let me finde grace in the sight of my lorde.
Ésaü dit: « Laisse-moi maintenant laisser avec toi quelques-uns des gens qui sont avec moi. » Il a dit: « Pourquoi? Que je trouve grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur. »
16 So Esau returned, and went his way that same day vnto Seir.
Ce jour-là, Ésaü s'en retourna en direction de Séir.
17 And Iaakob went forwarde towarde Succoth, and built him an house, and made boothes for his cattell: therefore he called the name of the place Succoth.
Jacob se rendit à Succoth, se construisit une maison et fit des abris pour son bétail. C'est pourquoi le nom de ce lieu est appelé Succoth.
18 Afterward, Iaakob came safe to Sheche a citie, which is in the lande of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram, and pitched before the citie.
Jacob arriva en paix à la ville de Sichem, qui est dans le pays de Canaan, lorsqu'il vint de Paddan Aram, et il campa devant la ville.
19 And there he bought a parcell of ground, where hee pitched his tent, at the hande of the sonnes of Hamor Shechems father, for an hundreth pieces of money.
Il acheta la parcelle de terrain où il avait étendu sa tente, de la main des fils de Hamor, père de Sichem, pour cent pièces d'argent.
20 And he set vp there an altar, and called it, The mightie God of Israel.
Il y dressa un autel, et l'appela El Elohe Israël.
