Genesis 30
1 And when Rahel saw that she bare Iaakob no children, Rahel enuied her sister, and said vnto Iaakob, Giue me children, or els I dye.
Lorsque Rachel vit qu'elle ne portait pas d'enfants à Jacob, elle envia sa sœur. Elle dit à Jacob: « Donne-moi des enfants, sinon je vais mourir. »
2 Then Iaakobs anger was kindled against Rahel, and he sayde, Am I in Gods steade, which hath withholden from thee the fruite of the wombe?
La colère de Jacob s'enflamma contre Rachel, et il dit: « Suis-je à la place de Dieu, qui t'a refusé le fruit de tes entrailles? »
3 And she said, Behold my maide Bilhah, goe in to her, and she shall beare vpon my knees, and I shall haue children also by her.
Elle dit: « Voici ma servante Bilha. Va vers elle, afin qu'elle enfante sur mes genoux, et que je puisse aussi avoir des enfants par elle. »
4 Then shee gaue him Bilhah her mayde to wife, and Iaakob went in to her.
Elle lui donna pour femme Bilha, sa servante, et Jacob entra chez elle.
5 So Bilhah conceiued and bare Iaakob a sonne.
Bilha devint enceinte, et donna un fils à Jacob.
6 Then said Rahel, God hath giuen sentence on my side, and hath also heard my voyce, and hath giuen mee a sonne: therefore called shee his name, Dan.
Rachel dit: « Dieu m'a jugée, il a aussi entendu ma voix, et il m'a donné un fils. » Et elle lui donna le nom de Dan.
7 And Bilhah Rahels maide coceiued againe, and bare Iaakob the second sonne.
Bilha, servante de Rachel, devint encore enceinte, et enfanta un second fils à Jacob.
8 Then Rahel said, with excellent wrestlings haue I wrestled with my sister, and haue gotten the vpper hande: and shee called his name, Naphtali.
Rachel dit: « J'ai lutté avec ma sœur avec force combats, et j'ai vaincu. » Elle lui donna le nom de Nephthali.
9 And when Leah saw that she had left bearing, shee tooke Zilpah her mayde, and gaue her Iaakob to wife.
Lorsque Léa vit qu'elle avait fini d'enfanter, elle prit Zilpa, sa servante, et la donna pour femme à Jacob.
10 And Zilpah Leahs mayde bare Iaakob a sonne.
Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un fils à Jacob.
11 Then sayd Leah, A companie commeth: and she called his name, Gad.
Léa dit: « Quelle chance! » Elle lui donna le nom de Gad.
12 Againe Zilpah Leahs mayde bare Iaakob another sonne.
Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un second fils à Jacob.
13 Then sayde Leah, Ah, blessed am I, for the daughters will blesse me. and she called his name, Asher.
Léa dit: « Je suis heureuse, car les filles me diront heureuse. » Elle lui donna le nom d'Asher.
14 Nowe Reuben went in the dayes of the wheateharuest, and founde mandrakes in the fielde and brought them vnto his mother Leah. Then sayde Rahel to Leah, Giue me, I pray thee, of thy sonnes mandrakes.
Ruben partit les jours de la moisson du blé, trouva des mandragores dans les champs et les apporta à Léa, sa mère. Rachel dit à Léa: « Donne-moi des mandragores de ton fils. »
15 But shee answered her, Is it a small matter for thee to take mine husband, except thou take my sonnes mandrakes also? Then sayde Rahel, Therefore he shall sleepe with thee this night for thy sonnes mandrakes.
Léa lui dit: « Est-ce une petite affaire que tu aies pris mon mari? Veux-tu aussi enlever les mandragores de mon fils? » Rachel a dit: « Il couchera donc avec toi cette nuit pour les mandragores de ton fils. »
16 And Iaakob came from the fielde in the euening, and Leah went out to meete him, and sayde, Come in to mee, for I haue bought and payed for thee with my sonnes mandrakes: and he slept with her that night.
Jacob revint des champs le soir, et Léa sortit à sa rencontre et dit: « Il faut que tu entres chez moi, car je t'ai sûrement engagé avec les mandragores de mon fils. » Il coucha avec elle cette nuit-là.
17 And God heard Leah and shee conceiued, and bare vnto Iaakob the fift sonne.
Dieu écouta Léa; elle conçut, et enfanta à Jacob un cinquième fils.
18 Then said Leah, God hath giuen me my reward, because I gaue my mayde to my husband, and she called his name Issachar.
Léa dit: « Dieu m'a donné mon salaire, parce que j'ai donné mon serviteur à mon mari. » Elle lui donna le nom d'Issachar.
19 After, Leah conceiued againe, and bare Iaakob the sixt sonne.
Léa conçut de nouveau, et enfanta un sixième fils à Jacob.
20 Then Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowrie: nowe will mine husband dwell with me, because I haue borne him sixe sonnes: and she called his name Zebulun.
Léa dit: « Dieu m'a donné une bonne dot. Maintenant, mon mari vivra avec moi, car je lui ai donné six fils ». Elle lui donna le nom de Zabulon.
21 After that, shee bare a daughter, and shee called her name Dinah.
Ensuite, elle enfanta une fille, qu'elle appela Dina.
22 And God remembred Rahel, and God heard her, and opened her wombe.
Dieu se souvint de Rachel, il l'écouta, et il lui ouvrit les entrailles.
23 So she conceiued and bare a sonne, and said, God hath taken away my rebuke.
Elle conçut, enfanta un fils, et dit: « Dieu a ôté mon opprobre. »
24 And shee called his name Ioseph, saying, The Lord wil giue me yet another sonne.
Elle lui donna le nom de Joseph, en disant: « Que Yahvé me donne un autre fils! »
25 And assoone as Rahel had borne Ioseph, Iaakob said to Laban, Sende me away that I may go vnto my place and to my countrey.
Lorsque Rachel eut enfanté Joseph, Jacob dit à Laban: « Renvoie-moi, afin que j'aille dans mon lieu et dans mon pays.
26 Giue me my wiues and my children, for whom I haue serued thee, and let me go: for thou knowest what seruice I haue done thee.
Donne-moi mes femmes et mes enfants pour lesquels je t'ai servi, et laisse-moi partir; car tu connais le service que je t'ai rendu. »
27 To whom Laban answered, If I haue nowe found fauour in thy sight tarie: I haue perceiued that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake.
Laban lui dit: « Si maintenant j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, reste ici, car je devine que Yahvé m'a béni à cause de toi. »
28 Also he said, Appoynt vnto me thy wages, and I will giue it thee.
Il répondit: « Fixe-moi ton salaire, et je le donnerai. »
29 But he sayd vnto him, Thou knowest, what seruice I haue done thee, and in what taking thy cattell hath bene vnder me.
Jacob lui dit: « Tu sais comment je t'ai servi, et comment ton bétail s'est comporté avec moi.
30 For the litle, that thou haddest before I came, is increased into a multitude: and the Lord hath blessed thee by my comming: but nowe when shall I trauell for mine owne house also?
Car le peu que tu avais avant mon arrivée s'est transformé en une multitude. Yahvé vous a bénis partout où je me suis rendu. Quand donc pourvoirai-je aussi à ma propre maison? »
31 Then he saide, What shall I giue thee? And Iaakob answered, Thou shalt giue mee nothing at all: if thou wilt doe this thing for mee, I will returne, feede, and keepe thy sheepe.
Laban dit: « Qu'est-ce que je te donnerai? » Jacob dit: « Tu ne me donneras rien. Si tu fais cette chose pour moi, je ferai encore paître ton troupeau et je le garderai.
32 I wil passe through all thy flockes this day, and separate from them all the sheepe with litle spots and great spots, and al blacke lambes among the sheepe, and the great spotted, and litle spotted among the goates: and it shalbe my wages.
Je passerai aujourd'hui par tout ton troupeau et j'enlèverai tout ce qui est moucheté et tacheté, tout ce qui est noir parmi les moutons, et ce qui est moucheté et tacheté parmi les chèvres. Ce sera mon salaire.
33 So shall my righteousnesse answere for me hereafter, when it shall come for my rewarde before thy face, and euery one that hath not litle or great spots among the goates, and blacke among the sheepe, the same shalbe theft with me.
Ainsi, ma justice répondra pour moi dans l'avenir, lorsque vous viendrez au sujet de mon salaire qui est devant vous. Tout ce qui n'est pas moucheté et tacheté parmi les chèvres, et noir parmi les brebis, qui pourrait être avec moi, sera considéré comme volé. »
34 Then Laban sayde, Goe to, woulde God it might be according to thy saying.
Laban dit: « Voici, qu'il en soit fait selon ta parole. »
35 Therefore he tooke out the same day the hee goates that were partie coloured and with great spots, and all the shee goates with litle and great spots, and all that had white in them, and all the blacke among the sheepe, and put them in the keeping of his sonnes.
Ce jour-là, il enleva les chèvres mâles rayées et tachetées, toutes les chèvres femelles mouchetées et tachetées, toutes celles qui avaient du blanc, et toutes celles qui étaient noires parmi les moutons, et il les remit entre les mains de ses fils.
36 And hee set three dayes iourney betweene himselfe and Iaakob. And Iaakob kept the rest of Labans sheepe.
Il mit trois jours de voyage entre lui et Jacob, et Jacob fit paître le reste des troupeaux de Laban.
37 Then Iaakob tooke rods of greene popular, and of hasell, and of the chesnut tree, and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appeare in the rods.
Jacob prit pour lui des tiges de peuplier, d'amandier et de platane frais, il y pela des stries blanches et fit apparaître le blanc qui était dans les tiges.
38 Then he put the rods, which he had pilled, in the gutters and watering troughes, when the sheepe came to drink, before the sheepe. (for they were in heate, when they came to drinke)
Il plaça les baguettes qu'il avait épluchées en face des troupeaux, dans les abreuvoirs où les troupeaux venaient boire. Elles devinrent enceintes quand elles vinrent boire.
39 And the sheepe were in heate before the rods, and afterward brought forth yong of partie colour, and with small and great spots.
Les brebis conçurent devant les verges, et les brebis produisirent des animaux rayés, tachetés et mouchetés.
40 And Iaakob parted these lambes, and turned the faces of the flocke towardes these lambes partie coloured and all maner of blacke, among the sheepe of Laban: so hee put his owne flockes by themselues, and put them not with Labans flocke.
Jacob sépara les agneaux et plaça les faces des troupeaux vers les rayés et tous les noirs du troupeau de Laban. Il mit ses propres troupeaux à part, et ne les mit pas dans le troupeau de Laban.
41 And in euery ramming time of the stronger sheepe, Iaakob layde the rods before the eyes of the sheepe in the gutters, that they might conceiue before the rods.
Chaque fois que le plus fort du troupeau concevait, Jacob plaçait les baguettes devant les yeux du troupeau dans les abreuvoirs, afin qu'il conçoive parmi les baguettes;
42 But when the sheepe were feeble, hee put them not in: and so the feebler were Labans, and the stronger Iaakobs.
mais quand le troupeau était faible, il ne les mettait pas dedans. Les plus faibles étaient à Laban, et les plus fortes à Jacob.
43 So the man increased exceedingly, and had many flockes, and maide seruantes, and men seruants, and camels and asses.
Cet homme devint très riche, et il eut de grands troupeaux, des servantes et des serviteurs, des chameaux et des ânes.
