Genesis 20

1 Afterward Abraham departed thence toward the South countrey and dwelled betweene Cadesh and Shur, and soiourned in Gerar.

Und Abraham zog von dort ins Gebiet des Südlands und wohnte zwischen Kades und Schur. Als er einst zu Gerar weilte,

2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. Then Abimelech King of Gerar sent and tooke Sarah.

sprach Abraham von seinem Weibe Sara: "Sie ist meine Schwester." Da sandte der König von Gerar, Abimelech, hin und ließ Sara holen.

3 But God came to Abimelech in a dreame by night, and said to him, Beholde, thou art but dead, because of the woman, which thou hast taken: for she is a mans wife.

Gott aber kam im nächtlichen Traume zu Abimelech und sprach zu ihm: "Des Weibes wegen, das du geholt, mußt du sterben, ist sie doch eine Ehefrau."

4 (Notwithstanding Abimelech had not yet come neere her) And he said, Lord, wilt thou slay euen the righteous nation?

Abimelech aber war ihr noch nicht genaht; so sprach er: "Herr, bringst du auch schuldlose Leute um?

5 Said not he vnto me, She is my sister? yea, and she her selfe said, He is my brother: with an vpright minde, and innocent handes haue I done this.

Er hat doch selbst zu mir gesagt: 'Sie ist meine Schwester' und auch sie hat gesagt: 'Er ist mein Bruder.' In meines Herzens Einfalt und mit reinen Händen habe ich das getan."

6 And God saide vnto him by a dreame, I knowe that thou diddest this euen with an vpright minde, and I kept thee also that thou shouldest not sinne against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touche her.

Da sprach Gott zu ihm im Traume: "Auch ich weiß, daß du in deines Herzens Einfalt so gehandelt, und so bewahrte ich selbst dich davor, gegen mich zu sündigen; darum habe ich dir nicht zugelassen, sie zu berühren.

7 Now then deliuer the man his wife againe: for he is a Prophet, and he shall pray for thee that thou mayest liue: but if thou deliuer her not againe, be sure that thou shalt die the death, thou, and all that thou hast.

Gib aber jetzt dem Manne sein Weib heraus! Weil er ein Prophet ist, soll er für dich beten, daß du am Leben bleibst. Gibst du sie aber nicht heraus, so wisse, daß du sterben mußt, du samt all den Deinen!"

8 Then Abimelech rising vp early in ye morning, called all his seruants, and tolde all these things vnto them, and the men were sore afraid.

Da rief frühmorgens Abimelech alle seine Diener zusammen und erzählte ihnen all das, und die Männer erschraken sehr.

9 Afterward Abimelech called Abraham, and said vnto him, What hast thou done vnto vs? and what haue I offeded thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdome this great sinne? thou hast done things vnto me that ought not to be done.

Dann ließ Abimelech Abraham rufen und sprach zu ihm: "Was hast du uns angetan? Womit habe ich gegen dich gefehlt, daß du so schwere Schuld über mich und über mein Gebiet gebracht hast? Was nimmermehr geschehen durfte, hast du mir angetan."

10 So Abimelech said vnto Abraham, What sawest thou that thou hast done this thing?

Dann sprach Abimelech zu Abraham: "Was ist dir eingefallen, daß du dies getan hast?"

11 Then Abraham answered, Because I thought thus, Surely the feare of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wiues sake.

Da sprach Abraham: "Ich habe eben gedacht: 'Gar keine Furcht vor Gott herrscht an diesem Ort; sie bringen mich meines Weibes wegen um.'

12 Yet in very deede she is my sister: for she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she is my wife.

Auch ist sie wirklich meine Schwester, meines Vaters Tochter, nur nicht meiner Mutter Tochter, und so ist sie mein Weib geworden.

13 Nowe when God caused me to wander out of my fathers house, I said then to her, This is thy kindnes that thou shalt shewe vnto me in all places where we come, Say thou of me, He is my brother.

Als mich die Himmlischen aus meines Vaters Hause auf die Irrfahrt schickten, sprach ich zu ihr. 'Tu mir dies zuliebe! Wohin wir kommen, sag von mir: Es ist mein Bruder.'"

14 Then tooke Abimelech sheepe and beeues, and men seruants, and women seruants, and gaue them vnto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.

Da nahm Abimelech Schafe und Rinder, Sklaven und Mägde und gab sie Abraham; auch gab er ihm sein Weib Sara heraus.

15 And Abimelech saide, Beholde, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.

Und Abimelech sprach: "Mein Land steht dir offen. Laß dich nieder, wo es dir beliebt!"

16 Likewise to Sarah he said, Beholde, I haue giuen thy brother a thousand pieces of siluer: behold, he is the vaile of thine eyes to all that are with thee, and to all others: and she was thus reproued.

Zu Sara aber sprach er: "Ich schenke deinem Bruder tausend Silberstücke. Dies sei dir Ersatz für alles, was dir, deinen Knechten und Mägden widerfahren ist."

17 Then Abraham prayed vnto God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his women seruants: and they bare children.

Abraham aber betete zu Gott, und Gott heilte Abimelech, sein Weib und seine Mägde, daß sie Geburten hatten;

18 For the Lord had shut vp euery wombe of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abrahams wife.

denn der Herr hatte jeden Schoß in Abimelechs Hause wegen Sara, des Weibes Abrahams, verschlossen.
